  • Bikinis, beer, and building up | Christian Liberty
    Apr 14 2025

Freedom! But freedom for what? Freedom to bring glory to God and benefit others?
Or freedom to do as you please, under the guise of Christian Liberty.

Galatians 5:13 says - For you were called to freedom, brothers; only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.

    ________________________

When this is the day you wonder if you can or should do something under the name of Christian liberty, ask yourself this - is it building up? If it’s not, don’t do it. Christian liberty is proactive, not reactive. Our desire must be to build others up, instead of seeking our own fleshly desires, even when those desires aren’t sinful.

  • Speeding Grannies | Forgiveness
    Apr 7 2025

To be unforgiving and a believer IS mutually exclusive. It’s not compatible. If you’re a believer, you must be a forgiver. As you have been forgiven, so must you forgive.

This isn’t a controversial opinion. This is pretty standard stuff that we think most believers agree with.

But when you examine your heart - is it true? Or.. do you have a heart of unforgiveness? Which is really, a heart of bitterness. Do you hold onto slights? Do you get offended and let that offense - whether real or perceived - shape your opinions of that person who offended you? Or how you interact with them - or perhaps how you go out of your way NOT to interact with them?

    That's NOT actually being forgiving.

    ________________________

When this is the day you are tempted to bring up someone else's sin to them - sin that has already been forgiven and reconciled - remind yourself that the very act of bringing up the sin, is sinful in itself. In fact, when you see someone who has sinned against you, and you are tempted to think of that sin - you have to be prepared to fight a quick and vicious battle in your mind. Mortify the thought. Murder it. Or as we like to say, murdify! Not the person! The thoughts! The unforgiving thoughts! Be prepared with a battle plan. A literal scripture on hand to slay that beast of unforgiveness.

  • Preaching Pragmatic Propaganda | The Church Search
    Mar 24 2025

First, set the mood: Dim the lights, cue the emotional beats, and start the smoke machine. Add in a few strobe lights and the scene is set for a rock concert - no wait, I mean for church! Ah, the pragmatic churches will do anything to get you in the door. It’s a numbers game for them, which means full throttle marketing, a motivational TED Talk, and just a few Bible verses sprinkled in.
One of the chief offenders, setting up churches all over the nation, is the ARC - The Association of Related Churches. Join Elizabeth Giles and Monika Walker as we cruise through a bird’s eye view of the churches of the ARC and similarly styled pragmatic churches.

When this is the day you realize your church is pragmatic, it’s time to leave. It can be painful to part ways, but you will never regret leaving a pragmatic church, in order to sit under the faithful teaching of God’s Word.

  • Grocery Pickup and Chapped Lips | Money
    Mar 10 2025

How do we become a believer who is a slave to money? It doesn’t happen overnight. It doesn’t happen even for lack of financial education or econmic understanding. It doesn’t happen for lack of budget or even because you bought a nice car or a big fancy house.

It happens because of sin in our hearts, growing and taking root. Discontentment. Lack of thankfulness. Laziness. Greed. Selfishness. Lack of trust in God. Putting our trust in the temporal - in the earthly, instead of in Christ.

In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus established the standard of the law and taught His disciples a vital principle: no one can serve two masters. To think otherwise is to deceive ourselves. Join Elizabeth Giles and Monika Walker as they look at money through a biblical lens.

    ________________________

When this is the day you want what you want and you want it now - remember that you are a slave to Christ, not to Jeff Bezos. Put off whatever sins of the heart have you longing for the earthly goods, renew your mind with scripture, and put on contentment.

    1 Timothy 6:9–10

9 But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.

  • Passenger Princess | Sanctification
    Mar 3 2025

Sanctification is becoming more like Christ, but it isn’t something we can do on our own. We are sinners by nature, so sanctification starts with humility. We must have a heart that longs to obey God, and slowly, over times, we will grow more and more like the one we were created in the image of. There isn’t a nook in our souls that we want to keep for ourselves. What does sanctification look like in the lives of first world women? Join Elizabeth and Monika and they dicuss the dotrine of sanctification.

    ________________________

When this is the day you feel like everyone is growing in sanctification except for you, don't let discouragment take over. That only leads to naval gazing, an inward focus doesn’t help us shake off those feelings. There’s nothing good in me apart from Christ, so what good can it do me to stare at myself?

We become what we behold. When we just look at our sin, and focus on our discouragement over it, we find ourselves perpetuating that sin again! And then growing in greater discouragement! And then continuing that sin we hate so much, even more! And growing in greater discouragement!

Instead, behold the Lord. Study who he is. His goodness, his mercy, his holiness, his righteousness. Study scripture and look to the cross - your sins were already paid for and what Jesus did was enough.

The sermon titled “The Common Problem of Practical Atheism” by one of our pastors, Josh Oedy. He taught on James 4:13-17 and sinful presumption, living as though God isn’t there, like he isn’t constantly in control and at work in our world and our lives. It’s convicting and ecouraging - a must listen for anyone going through a trial or challenging time in their life.

  • Idols Made of LVP | Idols
    Feb 17 2025

Idol factories. An idol is ANYTHING - aaaaanything - that captures our hearts, our time, our attention, our minds, more than God. It can even be a GOOD thing! That’s what makes us so prone to churning out little idols in our hearts and minds. Fear, safety, health, finances, relationships, friendships, work, hobbies, family, the idols just keep on coming, and before we’ve even considered it a sin, we’ve already committed treason against a righteous and holy God. Rack, Shack and Benny had the right idea - bowing only to Christ. Join us as we learn from them today.

    ________________________

When this is the day you find yourself creating idols in your heart, repent! We are Christs. We belong to him. We are joyfully slaves to him. We do not have to be slaves to our fears, consumed by idols, distracted by things of this world.

  • Rage Rooms and Pillow Fights | Anger
    Feb 10 2025

If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it must be a duck. Anger is the same, yet we try to sweep away the sin by giving it other names. Righteous anger nearly always gives way to sinful anger, within seconds. Anger is the result of sinful desires, ruling our hearts. What are we to do with the feeling? How do we contain it, eradicate it, mortify it? Meditation and yoga? The world has tons of advice in managing it, but the Bible tells us to “put to death the practices of the body” so that we might live (Romans 8:13) - that’s telling us to eradicate the sin completely, not just manage the expression of it. Join Elizabeth and Monika as they explore anger, through a bible lens.

    ________________________

When this is the day you’re mad (annoyed, irritated, disappointed, frustrated, etc), don’t take the worldly advice of meditation and yoga. Instead, meditate on scripture. Meditate on the merciful God who saved a sinner like you. Instead of doing downard dog in yoga, put on the posture of prayer. Get on your knees. Close your eyes. And go before the Lord in praise and supplicaiton, bringing him all your requests, and laying your sins at his feet, seeking forgiveness, renewing your mind with his truth, and asking him to give you the strength to put on new habits of joy, contentedness, and patience.

  • Pesky Little Scriptures | Marriage
    Feb 5 2025

Nobody likes being bossed around, especially a wife! Those pesky little scriptures in James and Colossians that tell wives to submit to their husbands are outdated and meant to roll your eyes at and ignore. At least, that's what our culture tells us. And even wives who faithfully adhere to the accuracy and sufficiency of scripture can struggle with the command to submit to a sinful husband, even more so if their husband is unsaved or unkind.

Join Elizabeth and Monika as they explore the often challenging, but always righteous command, of submitting to one's own husband.

James 4:7a - Submit yourselves therefore to God.
Colossians 3:18 Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord.

    ________________________

When this is the day you consider yourself a wife who submits because you would never make a big decision without your husband's consent, prayerfully examine your daily conversations and the position of your heart. You might be surprised.
