    SEGMENT #1: GiGi’s Playhouse Rockford 5K Dash for Down Syndrome


    In this segment, Executive Director Karen Carlson outlines this year’s 5K Dash for Down Syndrome event at Roscoe Middle School Saturday, April 25th starting at 9am. The show outlines how to sign up, where the proceeds from the event go, and how you can participate virtually without even running to raise donations to keep GiGi’s services for over 450 families in 5 counties running for 2026.

    In this segment, Bruce Erickson outlines this 501C3 Non for Profit Volunteer organization that provides Therapy Dogs for local schools, universities, first responders and more. He outlines the vetting process for those interested in helping, the requirements for dogs to be in the program, and the overall benefits and results he sees when therapy dogs are present.     In this segment, Organizer Deanne Meseck outlines the return of the Stateline Strides for Stroke Walk May 30th at Rock Valley College. Being a Stroke survivor for 6 years now, she took over the walk after the previous organizers moved on. May is Stroke Awareness Month and DeAnn wants to bring awareness to the area.     April thru May 3rd is the 13th Annual "Fight Hunger, Spark Change" for the Northern Illinois Food Bank at Walmart and Sam’s Club. Directors Chris and Katie outline the need in the area for food, the way customers can donate at area Walmart’s and Sam’s Club. In 2025 over $200,000 raised for food supplies and to help neighbors in need. NIFB supplies multiple food pantries and soup kitchens in the Stateline.
