  • bEASTtexas Conversations: Cara Sims
    Nov 28 2025

Today’s guest is no stranger to winning—in fact, she makes winning look routine.

Elysian Fields senior Cara Sims has officially signed her national letter of intent to continue both her academic journey and her remarkable distance-running career at The University of Texas at Austin. The Longhorns are home to one of the premier track and field programs in the nation, and Cara—a four-time Class 2A state champion with even more titles in her sights this spring—is ready to keep on running straight toward the bright lights of Austin and the challenges and opportunities that await her there.

But there’s far more to Cara than medals and mile times. She’s a well-rounded young lady who deeply values her family, her teammates, and her home community of Elysian Fields. Every stride she takes and every championship she claims reflects the support, love, and influence of the people and places that shaped her.

Today, we sit down with Cara to talk about her latest state title—her second straight cross-country championship—and the heart, thought, and excitement behind her commitment to run for the Longhorns.

  • School House Rocks: James Demery
    Nov 26 2025

Mr. James Demery wears a lot of hats as Principal of George Washington Carver School in Karnack ISD.

One really big hat is as campus leader at a school that serves students from Pre-K through 8th Grade, all in one building. Under his leadership the last year, Karnack has seen test scores grow exponentially, and Mr. Demery credits the improvement to his hard-working staff and committed students who have bought in to the game plan for success he began implementing 1 1/2 years ago.

It's a game plan that has been meticulously laid out over the course of his life, including lessons he's learned regarding leadership, teamwork, and unity as a member of the United States Army. It's also a part of who Mr. Demery is personally, as a minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ at his home church just across the border from Karnack in Louisiana. All of these experiences encompass the essence of James Demery's true character -- the heart of a servant.

  • School House Rocks: Roy Presley
    Nov 24 2025

Hallsville ISD Director of Transportation Roy Presley is used to daily challenges. A bus breaks down. A driver calls in sick. Providing safe routes and transportation for every student on the bus, to and from school. Licensing mandates.

But this past January, he faced the biggest challenge of all when he was diagnosed with late stage cancer. Roy had two options -- let the cancer claim another victim, or trust a big promise from a big God that everything was going to be okay.

This Thanksgiving, Roy Presley, his family, and many friends certainly have a lot to be thankful for based on that decision, and that promise.

Here on School House Rocks on The Write Team Podcast, we highlight the stories of the staff and students who help build a solid foundation in our Write Team family of schools and communities. These are the stories that remind us why education matters, why people matter, and why the work we do each day has purpose far beyond what’s seen on the surface.

  • SOS Pro: "FIRE-D NICO!" Now What?
    Nov 14 2025

The Dallas Mavericks waited nine months to finally do the inevitable this week when they dismissed embattled GM Nico Harrison largely due to record levels of fan outrage and apathy due to last February's inexplicable trade of Luka Doncic. As the chants fade away at the AAC and gradually return to cheers and an actual focus on basketball, we ask the question on today's Sports, Old School on The Write Team Podcast: now where do we go from here? This, plus a preview of the NFL entering this weekend as well as another gambling scandal rocking Major League Baseball on this week's SOS Pro on The Write Team Podcast!
