  • ep39. Stories - West Park Park Bench Podcast
    Jul 4 2023

Regular listeners will know that there are occasions in the West Park Park Bench Podcast that I have either dogs walking past or people walking past and it just gives me a moment to pause and see if my train of thought is still there on the other side.

We're in stories ...the stories that you choose to listen to the stories you choose to attend and the stories you choose to be present at, and the stories you choose to listen to. And I think that's what today has really emerged in my thinking as I was swimming up and down the pool. And as I was heading for the bench, what is today's topic going to be and it's stories.

The Twitter Spaces intro... turns out you can't record with Otter while hosting a Twitter Spaces session.

  • ep38. Pivot, Twist, Pirouette - West Park Park Bench Podcast
    Jun 27 2023

I hadn't decided which of the three words I was going to use on the thumbnail. I used all three! Pivot Twist Pirouette. They tie in with the balance theme that I've had this year. This episode is about changing direction and a positive response when things don't quite go right.

You apply for something and you don't get the funding or you apply for something and you don't get the role. Freelancers spend a lot of time putting eggs in baskets and through precarious necessity in to a lot of baskets.

There's a lot of eggs moving around. How long do you keep a basket empty before recycling it? similar kinds of analogies of back burner pans. How large is your cooker? How many back burners can you have?

    So Pivot Twist Pirouette...

... it was like God was taking flash photography. I actually go to yoga on a Monday night. I did search, if I want to know something that I don't think I know. I do tend to ask Mr. Google and if it is something that I want a little more of an extensive answer before I go searching I might ask ChatGPT. Don't take an umbrella! At the heart of episode 37... What is it that you need to organise? I attended Producers Pool a couple of weeks ago now and this was something that came up someone asked what was the best organisation tool and of course everybody would go I use this and I use this and I use this and everybody uses something different. The people who are most successful are the ones that have an organisation structure, and the tool has grown around them. To find that tool first of all you need to know how you can organise yourself and not spend your whole time working out how a platform works, because they're quite complex. May 9 2023
Today's topic is Declined versus Reject. Doing these podcasts over an extended period of time has led me to reflect on how I deal with my own sense of progression. Day to day when things are really good. I find coming and doing these podcasts are fine. I can pick a word that I want to reflect on, and I can wax lyrical about that word. When I get busy. I tend to find that my mind is distracted. And as I only do one of these pieces of constant media, there's a there's a component of it that makes me think that I should be telling people what's going on and sharing what it is that I'm doing, because those things that I'm doing, if people know about them, they can either attend or if they know what I do, or get a sense of what I do that maybe they'll want me to come and do that for them. And that's even better. COVID was quite liberating for me because I was able to be the best that I could be because the skills that I had in a world which meant that I didn't have to go out and put the attention into the physical and the effort of putting myself into a place where I can be sociable, happy, not too loud and annoying. And this is where the gregarious introvert phrase which thank you so much Hallidonto for giving me that phrase ... And that brings me to where I am now. This is episode 32 - Decline vs Reject.
