  • Ep. 68 Hey Gen Z, its time to talk about fertility insurance -and wearables, With Dr Christy Lane, Co-founder of Flora
    Mar 31 2025
My guest today is Dr. Christy Lane. She is a global leader of InsurTech and a health scientist with expertise in AI, digital health, and wearable devices. She is the Co-Founder of Flora Fertility and founder of the Stanford Wearable Health Lab. Dr. Lane has been involved in women’s health research since the 90’s, and is blazing a new path forward to combine critical components of wearable tech to help inform insurance policy to make fertility treatments more accessible. She is a mom of 3, who has gone through IVF herself therefore deeply understands the emotional and financial challenges of treatment. She is here today to tell us about Flora which is launching this Spring. It’s a new way to think about insurance and more specifically, insurance for fertility challenges. Her expertise in wearables informs much of her work and is of great interest to me so I had to pick her brain before we wrapped up. Initially when we changed gears and started talking about wearables, I sort of siloed my usual work which I consider low tech- high touch, albeit virtual, into one category and my interest in wearable technology into another but as she talked I realized that I work with people in the perinatal period in this manner all the time. I just don’t push this on people who aren’t already into it, except for maybe the occasional CGM here or there where it could be best utilized. I learned a lot from her today, clarified some assumptions I'd made and got all jazzed up about the work I am already doing with women around optimizing fertility, improving pregnancy outcomes and postpartum experiences, work that is inseparable from discussions about lifestyle choices and changes.Guest ResourcesFlora FertilityWearable Health Lab at StanfordIG @heyflorahealthMentioned on today’s episodeMorpheus - A HR monitor in which your zones change daily according to your recovery which is largely based on HRV and resting HR.Carrot - Insurance for fertility servicesProgny - Insurance for fertility servicesMother Wit ResourcesThriving After Birth (an online course)Comprehensive Care60 Min Consultation: Use discount code- FirstConsult10%offInstagram: @mother.wit.maternityExercise in the perinatal period: For healthcare providers (an online course)Support the showRelated episodesEp 64 When to see a fertility specialistEp 45 Physical activity during pregnancy

  • Ep. 66 March Madness & Vasectomies
    Feb 24 2025

Did you know what these two things have in common? Do you have questions about vasectomies, fears, misconceptions? Then stay tuned! Do not stay tuned if you have questions about March Madness - I definitely can't answer these!

Today my husband, Pablo Paz joins me to tell the story of what it was like when he got his vasectomy. Hopefully the male perspective is welcome here and makes this an easier listen for the male partners out there who may be in need of this information and perhaps some myth busting.

If you are returning for a second listen or passing this episode onward to someone with a short attention span or who just want the facts without the story, skip ahead to minute 36.

    Feb 3 2025

For the past 20 years, Hali has supported families through their postpartum journeys in hospital, home, and outpatient settings. Growing up alongside her mom, a NICU nurse, she developed a love for nurturing babies and their families. Her journey began as a birth doula which led her to start midwifery training. With a degree in Health Science, certifications as an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant, birth and postpartum doula, and National Board-Certified Health and Wellness Coach, she brings a whole-person approach to care. She also holds certifications in yoga, pre-post natal barre, reiki and massage. Additional studies in functional nutrition, postpartum health, and CBT-trained coaching have deepened her understanding of the mind-body connection and support balanced hormone wellness, stress reduction, and nutrition.

She specialize in feeding concerns, tongue ties, food sensitivities, postpartum mental health, and building confidence for new parents in this transformative time.

  • Ep. 63 An attorney's take on strategies for a safer birth
    Jan 6 2025

In today’s episode I am interviewing an attorney that specializes in childbirth cases. At various points in this episode we discuss adverse outcomes that can occur during pregnancy and childbirth for both the birthing person and their fetus or baby. If you are planning a pregnancy, pregnant or postpartum, or in any stage of life where this topic is not what you need to hear at the moment, please take care of yourself and listen another time or skip this one all together.

This interview is different, if only because it may be the first time I am interviewing someone who is neither one of my personal clients or a healthcare provider. But today’s guest brings a perspective that both providers and healthcare consumers may want or need to hear.

Gina's work in this area led her to do a deep dive into the how’s and why’s of mistakes that occur during labor and birth which led to write a book called, “A parents guide to a safer childbirth.” She believes that there is knowledge that all pregnant people should have that can help them better advocate for themselves and their babies, ultimately leading to better and safer birth experiences. She is here today to share some of her wisdom with us.
