  • 212. Making Sense of Mind Chatter
    Jul 11 2025

Welcome to episode 212 where we talk about 'Making Sense of Mind Chatter'. Ever feel like your brain just won’t stop talking? That constant swirl of thoughts—whether it’s fear, doubt, self-criticism, or overwhelm—is what I like to call mind chatter. In this episode, I break down that chatter into three distinct voices: the sleepy sloth, the yappy dog, and the wise owl. Each one has something to say—and believe it or not, they all matter.

Together, we explore how to identify which voice is speaking up in your mind, how each one feels, and how to respond with more clarity and confidence. You’ll learn that none of these thoughts make you broken or weak—it just means you’re human. And by recognizing these voices instead of reacting to them, you gain more emotional maturity, more peace, and more power to create the mission and life you truly want.

Whether you’re preparing to serve, currently on your mission, adjusting to post-mission life, or supporting someone who is, this episode will help you understand your brain better—and maybe even befriend that noisy mind of yours.

As always, if you found this episode helpful, I want to invite you to subscribe if you aren't already, share this episode with your friends and missionaries you know, and write a review. I know this work will help LDS missionaries around the world and it would mean so much to me if you did. Until next week my friends.

  • 211. Let Freedom Ring
    Jul 4 2025

Happy Fourth of July! In episode 211 - Let Freedom Ring, I’m diving into the idea of freedom—but not just the kind we celebrate with flags and fireworks. I’m talking about personal, emotional, and spiritual freedom—the kind that empowers you to show up in your mission and your life with authenticity and agency. Whether you’re preparing to serve, currently on your mission, just returned, or supporting someone you love, this episode is an invitation to reflect on where you might feel stuck, and how to reclaim the power that is already yours.

I share how freedom is more than just a mindset—it's a gift from God and something we can practice every day by choosing our thoughts, owning our emotions, and letting others do the same. I also talk about how Hamilton, my patriotic grandparents, and one of my early blog posts inspired this reflection. This episode is full of real talk, scriptural insights, and reminders that you have so much more influence over your life experience than you might think.

So if you’ve been feeling like you’ve lost a little bit of your spark or sense of control—this episode is for you. Let’s let freedom ring in our hearts, our minds, and the way we show up every day. I’m cheering you on.

  • 210. The Christ-Centered Summit with Stephanie Bundrock
    Jun 27 2025

Hey mission fam! In this special episode#210, I'm sharing an incredible interview from the Christ-Centered Family Summit with Stephanie Bundrock. We dive deep into the world of missionary mindset, anxiety, and how we can support our missionaries before, during, and after their missions. I share my journey of becoming an LDS mission coach and why I'm so passionate about helping young adults navigate the unique challenges of missionary life.

We talk about some game-changing strategies for managing anxiety, including my favorite technique of "becoming the compassionate watcher." I break down how parents and leaders can support missionaries by normalizing their feelings, validating their experiences, and meeting them exactly where they are - just like Christ would.

Whether you're a preparing missionary, a current missionary, a return missionary, or a missionary parent, this episode is packed with insights on how to approach the mission experience with love, understanding, and emotional resilience.

As a bonus, I'm offering two free resources: a Preparing Missionary Cheat Sheet and a guide with 5 Tips to Help Your Return Missionary Transition Home. These tools are designed to help you and your missionary build confidence, manage emotions, and create a Christ-centered mission experience. Grab them in the show notes, and remember - you've got this, and I'm here to support you every step of the way!

Stephanie Bundrock is the founder of My Children’s Heroes, a Christ-centered company that helps families bring the Book of Mormon to life—starting right in their bedrooms with beautifully designed hero bedsheets. These daily visual reminders pair perfectly with her Family Scripture Study system, a quick, meaningful, and teen-approved way for families to consistently draw closer to Christ. Stephanie is married to her best friend of 25 years and adores her five beautiful teens and young adults. She finds joy in sunset walks, watercoloring, country dancing, lunch with friends, and quiet moments of prayer and meditation. Her greatest passion is helping families strengthen their connection with each other, and bringing them closer to their Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.

  • 209. The Response Effect
    Jun 20 2025

Hey mission fam! In this week's episode, 209. The Response Effect, I'm diving deep into what I call "The Response Effect" - a powerful concept that's been on my mind lately. We're exploring how our responses to situations, mistakes, and challenges matter WAY more than the actual event itself.

Whether you're a missionary, preparing to serve, or a returned missionary, this episode is all about understanding how grace, curiosity, and compassion can completely transform your experience. I'll share some personal stories - like the time a scout leader handled a situation with my son, and how my own parents' even-keeled responses shaped my understanding of love and support.

We'll talk about why we often have reactive responses (spoiler: it's usually fear-based!), and how shifting to curiosity, acceptance, and unconditional love can create incredible ripple effects in our lives. Most importantly, I want you to understand that how you respond to yourself matters just as much as how you respond to others.

This episode is a game-changer for anyone wanting to grow, embrace their mission experience, and learn to love themselves through every twist and turn. If you're ready to transform your perspective and create more compassionate, powerful responses in your life, this episode is for you. Let's do this!

  • 208. Real Life Questions and Comments
    Jun 13 2025

Hey everyone! In episode 208. Real Life Questions and Comments, I'm diving deep into two important topics that have been on my heart - mission preparation and understanding missionary emotions.

First, I want to address a comment I saw about going on splits being the ultimate mission prep. While that can be helpful, it's not enough. The mission is a whole different ball game, and you need to be emotionally and mentally prepared for the real pressures and challenges you'll face. I also tackle a crucial issue about anxiety on the mission. So many missionaries are told their anxiety stems from disobedience, and that breaks my heart. The truth is, anxiety is a normal, physiological response to a new, high-pressure environment. Your nervous system is doing exactly what it's designed to do - protect you. It's not a spiritual failing or a sign that you're doing something wrong. What matters is how you support yourself through these challenging emotions and learn to be compassionate with yourself.

My big takeaway? Missionaries need more than just going through the motions. You need tools to manage your mind, feel your feelings, and support yourself through the incredible journey of serving a mission. Remember, there's nothing wrong with you for feeling anxious or overwhelmed. You're human, and that's beautiful. Keep showing up, keep being kind to yourself, and trust that you have everything you need to navigate this amazing experience.

As always, if you found this episode helpful, I want to invite you to subscribe if you aren't already, share this episode with your friends and missionaries you know, and write a review. I know this work will help LDS missionaries around the world and it would mean so much to me if you did. Until next week my friends.

  • 207. Coping Strategies That Really Make a Difference
    Jun 6 2025

Hey mission fam! In this episode, I'm diving deep into coping strategies that actually make a difference in your mission experience. We often think coping means avoiding tough emotions, but I'm here to tell you it's really about learning to move through those feelings with intention and grace.

I share a personal example of a returned missionary who was using planning as a way to squelch her anxiety, which sparked this whole conversation about how we handle stress. I break down the concept of a stress response cycle - imagine it like a bell curve of emotion - and explain how most of our go-to coping mechanisms actually interrupt our ability to process feelings fully. I'll walk you through some powerful questions to help you understand whether your current strategies are truly helping you build emotional resilience or just providing a temporary escape. Spoiler alert: sometimes a Netflix binge is totally okay, but knowing the difference is key!

By the end of this episode, you'll have a toolkit to recognize when you're using band-aid fixes versus strategies that help you grow. My goal is always to empower you to feel any emotion, because when you can do that, you can literally do anything. Whether you're preparing for a mission, currently serving, or a returned missionary, these insights are going to help you navigate life's challenges with more confidence and emotional strength.

As always, if you found this episode helpful, I want to invite you to subscribe if you aren't already, share this episode with your friends and missionaries you know, and write a review. I know this work will help LDS missionaries around the world and it would mean so much to me if you did. Until next week my friends.

  • 206. The Benefits of a Holding Pattern
    May 30 2025

Hey mission fam! In episode 206 - The Benefits of a Holding Pattern, I'm diving deep into the concept of a "holding pattern" - something we often judge ourselves for, but which can actually be incredibly powerful and necessary. I share how these periods of seeming stillness aren't about procrastination or laziness, but can be sacred spaces of healing, regrouping, and intentional preparation.

Drawing from aviation analogies and personal experiences (like President Utchdorf), I explore how holding patterns protect us from rushed decisions and give us time to reconnect with ourselves and God.

Whether you're a missionary going through the motions, a returned missionary processing your experience, or someone waiting on a big life decision, this episode will help you see these moments not as setbacks, but as valuable parts of your growth journey. I wrap up by sharing a beautiful scripture from Psalms - "Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him" - and encourage listeners to view their holding patterns as intentional, holy spaces. My hope is that you'll walk away with more compassion for yourself and understanding that you're always progressing, even when it doesn't look like forward movement.

As always, if you found this episode helpful, I want to invite you to subscribe if you aren't already, share this episode with your friends and missionaries you know, and write a review. I know this work will help LDS missionaries around the world and it would mean so much to me if you did. Until next week my friends.

  • 205. Emotional Metabolism
    May 23 2025

Hey mission fam! In this week's episode, #205 - Emotional Metabolism, I'm diving deep into what I'm calling "emotional metabolism" - a game-changing way to think about how we process our feelings. Using a fun food analogy, I explain why trying to "get rid" of anxiety or negative emotions actually makes them stronger.

Instead, I share how we can learn to feel our emotions the same way we eat nutritious food - with acceptance and purpose. I break down why our brains interpret emotional experiences as threats and how resistance creates more suffering. Through real examples from missionaries and returned missionaries, I demonstrate how simply observing our emotions without judgment can transform our experience.

The key takeaway? We're not meant to eliminate difficult feelings, but to metabolize them - just like our bodies process nutrients. If you're struggling with anxiety, negative thoughts, or feeling overwhelmed on your mission, this episode is for you. I'll help you understand that having challenging emotions is completely normal and part of our human design. By the end, you'll have a new perspective on emotional processing that can help you move through difficult experiences with more grace and understanding.

As always, if you found this episode helpful, I want to invite you to subscribe if you aren't already, share this episode with your friends and missionaries you know, and write a review.
