Minister La La sits down today with someone that is in the process of building an innovative platform to serve the LGBTQ+ community. Jacob Buck is the founder of Volunqueer. In this discussion we will learn about his journey, his vision, his inspiration for Volunqueer. We talk about how, as someone with no app or software background, has built an app platform that is soon to come to market and how volunteering has brought so much fabulosity to his life.

Jacob Buck (he/him) is a community builder, volunteer strategist, and founder of VolunQueer, a platform connecting LGBTQIA+ people and allies with safe, affirming ways to give back. He currently leads volunteer engagement for the American Red Cross in the Utah/Nevada Region and has over 15 years of experience in service and leadership. Jacob is a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer (RPCV) and AmeriCorps St. Louis alumnus, and has founded multiple community initiatives, including Stonewall Sports and Outloud Sports Salt Lake City. He’s passionate about creating spaces where people can show up fully, connect deeply, and make a tangible impact.

Minister La La sits down with entrepreneur and life coach Jon Pinney. Jon and Minister La La have known each other through their networks for several years now, but have only really started to get to know each other better recently over the last year or so. Minister La La asked Jon to be on the podcast because as he has been watching his social media and watching him engage with his friends and followers and has been impressed with the positivity and growth oriented discussions he has with people that may not agree with him or even aggressively confronting his beliefs. Minister La La is glad he accepted the invite, and believs you will really enjoy this conversation about growth, self-acceptance, and learning to love your full authentic self while not just celebrating fabulosity but spreading it to others.

Jon grew up in California as the 6th child of 8 in a somewhat traditional Mormon household. He was the worst and most stubborn child ever until he realized he could also get what he wanted by being the best child ever - and people would still like him after. He came to understand he was gay when he was 12 which led to 20 years in the closet where he tried to change his sexuality. That led him deeply into the world of self-improvement and accomplishment as a way to overcompensate for not living authentically. That eventually led him to NYC, coming out, radically embracing his authentic self, starting a clothing line to spread positivity and a life coaching business to support the empowerment and elevation of others into what he calls The Vaulted Self.

Minister La La sits down with Amy and Michael Conn, two fabulous human beings who share their story of how cancer interrupted their lives and how they didn't allow it to destroy their lives. But instead turned Amy's diagnosis into positivity and uplifting their communities!

This is a long episode, but worth the time to hear their insights. They are easy to listen to and exude their love and fabulosity they have for their community and family.

Learn about how fire is not the only on the job hazard that firefighters face! Michael shares how cancer is one of the leading causes of death for firefighters! Learn how firefighters are changing that and battling the causes, the stigma, and how they help their firefighting brothers and sisters!

Twenty years ago Amy Conn was a special education teacher and a mother of two young children when breast cancer interrupted her life. Rather than seeing it as a tragedy she chose to call it an “adventure” and that perspective changed everything!

Amy Conn is a teacher turned healer! A 34 year veteran special education teacher and E-RYT yoga instructor with over 2000 training hours! A reiki practitioner and certified Light Worker. She is a founder of A quality Life Community ( a non-profit serving Cancer Survivors.) She has a couple education degrees from the University of Utah, she is a doctoral candidate. She is also a Published Researcher on yoga interventions for burn survivors.

Her cancer jouney inspired her book Revealing Grace: A Story About a Cancer Adventur and a Community. She wrote it 20 years ago, but will release a revised edition on October 18th! She will talk more about what has changed in the last 20 years and what you can expect from this second edition!

Her husband Michael Conn

Is a Captain with Unified Fire Authority. He has Over 28 years experience in wildland and structure firefighting. He is the Utah Director of the Firefighter Cancer Support Network Since 2015. Task Force member of the Utah Firefighter Cancer Screening Initiative. 3rd District Vice President of the Professional Fire Fighters of Utah. And a International Association of Fire Fighters Local 1696 Trustee!
