  • Episode 61: Shades of Referrals
    Nov 16 2025

    Send us a text

We recorded our 61st episode on Wednesday, November 12, 2025 focusing a bit deeper on referrals, referral marketing, and shades of referrals. From the "Here's a phone number to call" to "this is a closed deal, they are ready to pay you", there are many shades of referrals. What are the differences? The amount of time and effort for the sales person to close the deal and the depth and strength of the relationship between the three parties involved in a referral.

Miles and I met at a networking event (in 2012!) and we've passed dozens (hundreds?) of referrals worth tens of thousands of dollars. Enjoy!

Welcome to episode 61 of our podcast, "The 2 Guys That Don't Know Everything Podcast" hosted by Miles McGrath and David "Dave" Makar.

    Zoom Summary (via AI):
"Miles and David had a wide-ranging conversation covering personal experiences, writing progress, and the creative process in fiction writing. They discussed the importance of networking and referrals in both personal and professional contexts, exploring how valuable connections can lead to unexpected opportunities and business growth. The conversation concluded with insights on relationship-based networking and the power of giving referrals without expecting immediate returns, drawing from David's experiences with referral campaigns and business development."

  • Episode 59: How Are You Recharging Your Batteries?
    Oct 26 2025

Dave here: First it was my phone, then my car, and finally my laptop: all three ran out of battery juice in the span of just a couple days. When the car battery was too low to start the car, I was stranded and it was 34 degrees and night time. I got lucky to get out of that one without getting too cold or spending too much money. All this battery talk made me think about how our personal batteries run low and what we do to overdo it and how we recharge. Enjoy our conversation about batteries and recharging.

    Episode 54: "Elisabeth Harrod"

On August 19, a rare Tuesday recording, Miles and Dave hosted their second guest on the 2 Guys That Don't Know Everything podcast: Elisabeth Harrod. Elisabeth Harrod is a dads and family coach who helps fill up parents' tool kits working together to motivate kids to break barriers and change challenging behaviors and patterns. She helps parents experience life-changing results! Elisabeth is a mother of two adult children, lives in Ithaca, New York, and has been raising and supporting kids (including as a babysitter) for over forty years. She's an expert in the parenting journey. Dave first met Elisabeth in 2010 in Ithaca via the local chamber of commerce and BNI; and he's excited to introduce Elisabeth to the 'Two Guys' audience.

Welcome to episode 54 of our podcast, "The 2 Guys That Don't Know Everything Podcast" hosted by Miles McGrath and David "Dave" Makar.

    AI Description:
"The meeting (sic) began with Miles and David sharing their podcast journey and discussing Elisabeth's influence as a podcaster and dad's coach, including her recommendation of Buzzsprout.com for their podcast setup. Elisabeth then shared her educational and parenting journey, including her approach to homeschooling and development of Purpose Parenting, while exploring topics like toxic masculinity and the importance of creating safe spaces for children to express themselves. The discussion concluded with Elisabeth's insights on parenting styles and the value of autonomy in child development, including her coaching approach of "watering and waiting" rather than "molding and scolding," and the group explored various practical examples of implementing these concepts in parenting."

Parents listening to the show should schedule a no-cost 20-minute discovery call with Elizabeth at PurposeParenting.net for parenting guidance.
