  • This year, we're done
    Jan 8 2026

Everyone’s talking about New Year’s resolutions.
In this new season of the She Gets It From Me podcast, we’re talking about what we’re done tolerating.

This episode is about the quiet shifts that happen when you stop explaining yourself, stop carrying other people’s nonsense, and stop pretending you’re fine.
No reset. No reinvention. Just where we’re actually at.

If January makes you feel pressured instead of hopeful, you’re not alone. This one’s for you. And sorry, we do have a little catch-up first regarding the chaos and illness joys of Christmas, but we are sure you will relate!

    Key takeaways in this episode:

    • Christmas can be lovely and still absolutely knackering. Both things can be true.

    • Being ill has a way of ruining plans and reminding you how little control you actually have.

    • New Year’s resolutions often feel less like choice and more like pressure.

    • Everyone suddenly decides they need to “sort themselves out” in January, whether it makes sense or not.

    • We’re encouraged to want everything now, which makes it harder to sit with real life as it is.

    • Being present isn’t about mindfulness buzzwords; it’s about not mentally living six weeks ahead.

    • Routine keeps things ticking over, but dreaming is what stops life feeling flat.

    • New Year’s resolutions aren’t new or modern;in the future we’ve been doing this to ourselves for centuries.

    • Life feels better when you stop obsessing over outcomes and actually notice what’s happening along the way.

    • Sometimes making better choices isn’t about discipline, it’s about slowing down and not running yourself into the ground.

  • Work Christmas Party Horror Stories and How We Found Out Santa Isn’t Real
    Dec 16 2025

It’s the She Gets It From Me Christmas special with Layla (Gen X) and Ellie (Gen Z), and we’re a few Proseccos in, so it’s festive chaos from the start.

Ellie pulls the funniest work Christmas party stories from Reddit, and we get into office Christmas party behaviour that should have come with a disclaimer, plus why a free bar turns normal colleagues into absolute villains. Then we move on to “when did you find out Santa wasn’t real?” from handwriting giveaways to kids being genuinely terrified of Father Christmas turning up in the night.

We also read out our top hate comments, rant about AI thumbnails turning us into strangers, and spiral into beauty standards, ageing, filler and facelifts, and why everyone ends up with the same face.

    Explicit language. Over 18s.

  • AI Gave Us New Faces And Ellie Dreamt Her Dad Was Batman
    Dec 9 2025

This week’s episode is chaos in the best way. We start with Ellie’s dreams, which have taken a very weird turn. Think underwater vaults, shark chases, flooded streets and somehow… Batman as her dad. It sounds funny until you realise she’s waking up in an actual panic, desperate not to fall back into the same dream. We get into what shark dreams supposedly mean, and why your brain loves throwing money stress at you while you sleep.

We also talk about recurring dreams and why everyone on earth apparently dreams about snakes. If anyone listening actually knows what any of this symbolism means, please DM us because we’re none the wiser shegetsitfromme1@gmail.com

Ellie vents about customers who test her patience, Layla shares the saga of AI thumbnails that turned us into strangers, and we accidentally go on a full tangent about Christmas markets, overpriced fudge, evergreen trees and whether we’re allowed to say Christmas anymore.

There’s also a bit about chairs that cost £600, Jehovah’s Witnesses at the door, mulled wine journeys that started as a joke and didn’t end… and one emotional moment about hugging your younger self thanks to an AI filter.

Basically, it’s us. A normal Tuesday night. Overthinking, oversharing and trying not to take online hate personally while manifesting our escape from our day jobs.

If you’ve had a dream involving sharks, Batman, flooded neighbourhoods or anything that feels suspiciously like stress wearing a Halloween costume, we want to hear it.

  • Ozempic Celebs, Fashion Went Naked And Kim K’s Mad New Law Show
    Dec 2 2025

Ellie spent the weekend 'hanging out of her arse' and still has no Christmas tree, Layla is having a “free Christmas” and moaning about apple wax, and somehow it all turns into a chat about why every celeb is suddenly tiny again. We get into Ozempic, Manjaro weight loss injections, the whole “wicked diet” thing, Ozempic face, and why so many famous people who spent years banging on about advocating for curves and body positivity now look like completely different humans.

We talk honestly about eating disorders going up, comfort eating, messy body image, not trusting half the official health advice, and this waist-to-height thing that might actually be more useful than BMI. Then it is naked dresses at the Fashion Awards, Amanda Holden’s bum, porn level TV at home, Real Housewives as comfort viewing, and Kim Kardashian in All’s Fair being completely ridiculous but still weirdly watchable.

In short, the world has gone very skinny and very naked, and we are just trying to work out what actually feels healthy and normal anymore.

  • Hidden Vapes, Step-Mum Bra Drama and the Day Ham Was Banned But Not Drugs
    Nov 18 2025

We are Ellie (the daughter) and Layla (the mum) and this week on the She Gets It From Me podcast, we are talking all things teenagers and boundaries (or lack of them). And just a teeny little bit of MAFS where we discuss Rebecca's mother.

    We get into:

    • Where teenagers are really hiding their vapes and why raiding their bedroom might break trust faster than any lecture

    • The step mum first bra drama that set the internet off, and why that first bra shop is a mum-and-daughter core memory, not a casual errand

    • We talk honestly about how we handled weed and NOS turning up at teen house parties, and what we’d do differently now.

    • The time Layla was stricter about a hidden packet of wafer-thin ham than anything else, because we were all supposed to be a vegan family

If you like a funny parenting podcast with real talk about parenting teenagers, blended families, step mum boundaries, teen vaping, teen parties and dry British mum humour, this one is for you. This show is labelled Explicit and is aimed at over 18s.

We would love for you to join the conversation - If anything has resonated for you in this episode, please write to us here, and we will feature it (anonymously) on a future episode.

  • MAFS UK Homestay Delusions, Intuition Over Insecurity and Aldi Bans a Pensioner
    Nov 4 2025

In this episode of “She Gets It From Me,” daughter-mother duo Ellie and Layla invite you into a week of thoughts and rantings: the mystery of our new one-star rating, MAFS homestays whiplash, and why UK supermarkets now treat us like suspects at self-checkout.

First up, MAFS mayhem. We unpack the chip-shop-flat reveal, Disney-couple energy, Steve “deleting receipts” on camera, and the eternal question: is it insecurity, Nelly, or is your intuition telling the truth?

Then we dive into TikTok’s “bad mum” discourse. We talk generational patterns, main-character mums, jealousy between mothers and daughters, and what it takes to break the chain when that was never modelled for you.

Finally, the Aldi Bootle ban and self-scan rage. A 75-year-old gets told to unload the trolley, security gets involved, and we ask why scanning your own shopping now feels like a police interview.

And if you made it to the end, we want to know one thing:

What’s the most unhinged thing you’ve seen at a self-checkout, or what’s the moment your gut screamed “nope” and you actually listenedWe’d love to hear it. Email us and we’ll read the best ones next week.

  • Faking a Pregnancy & Sacrificing a Human to Kill a Cockroach
    Oct 22 2025

In this episode of "She Gets It From Me," mother-daughter duo Ellie and Layla invite you to join their conversation as they discuss the hot topic of the week - Kira Cousins, the young woman from Scotland who faked a pregnancy and hit all the headlines.

This reminds Ellie and Layla of some crazy childhood lies, the growing TikTok trend of some kids being very rude to their parents. Ellie then mortifies Layla by reminding her of the time she'd barricaded herself in her room, and her mum was having none of it.

Finally, they discuss the recent headline of a woman in South Korea who killed another woman all in the name of saving herself from a cockroach, which inspired a funny personal anecdote about a family holiday and a family members surprisingly futile way to kill their own pest.

And if you made it to the end, and would love to know the story about the friend's brother and a cow, you have to answer one of the following:

What is your best method for killing a cockroach, or, what is the funniest lie you've ever told?

We'd love to hear it, so email us here and we'll read it out next week

  • Beauty is Pain - Full Body Shaving and Other Undelightful Societal Pressures
    Oct 14 2025

In this episode of "She Gets It From Me," mother-daughter duo Ellie and Layla engage in a candid conversation about beauty standards, personal insecurities, and the societal pressures women face, including a confession about hair removal.

They share personal anecdotes, discuss the impact of social media, and explore the historical context of beauty practices. And yes, they also touch upon a bit of MAFS UK 2025 because it's the season of all things wedding.

We'd love to know: What is something you 'suffered' with as a child, only to realise it was completely normal? Join the conversation by sending us your best stories here, and we'll read the best ones on next week's pod.

We apologise profusely for the bad sound quality and the curfuffle at the beginning with wires and sounds (a bit of f- bombing), and we will seek to resolve this for next week 🙏
