  • SLP 499: Self Love Quicky - The Power of Smell
    Jul 23 2025

In this week’s Quicky we explore the powerful connection between smell and emotions, and how smell bypasses the thinking brain to influence the limbic system and affect memory and attraction. Our sense of smell can be dulled by pollution and synthetic fragrances, but we can do exercises like using essential oils to reset and retrain our sense of smell. We explore the power of the daily aromatic body boost ritual using essential oils and how we can create new rituals and habits by intentionally using scents through a variety of methods.

All the essential oils mentioned in this show can be found at www.twenty8.com.

Quotes: Smell is often the forgotten sense. It’s our most primal sense, fully developed in the womb by just 8 weeks. The limbic system is the home of memory, emotion, and survival instinct. Scent can take you back 20 years in an instant. Humans can distinguish over 1 trillion different scents, which defies the long-held belief that we could only identify about 10,000 scents. The olfactory nerve is the only cranial nerve directly linked to the limbic brain. Special smells are soul imprints. We can train our sense of smell – just like a muscle. To honour your sense of smell is to honour your soul.

  • SLP 498: You Are More Than Your Mind, Body and Emotions - N8 with Jules Kuroda
    Jul 21 2025
‘The N8 Self, again it stands for our higher nature – N8 – it has eight characteristics, But, it has some qualities outside of characteristics and one of those qualities is – it is both individual and universal. So, it’s something I have, but it’s something you have, we all have this aspect of self. That is our being, that is our essence, the energy in our life. And I wanted to be sure that it was tangible, so how do we break it down into characteristics that we can like build on.’ ~ Jules Kuroda In this uplifting episode, Jules Kuroda shares the wisdom behind The N8 Self, a framework designed to reconnect us with the human spirit – the often overlooked but essential aspect of our being. Drawing on her global experiences and deep spiritual insight, Jules explains how the N8 Self is both individual and universal, offering a tangible path to self-awareness and fulfillment. Through the lens of eight core characteristics – Character, Contribution, Connection, Creativity, Gratitude, Generosity, Courage, and Meaning – Jules invites us to rediscover our innate light, reflect on our values, and reframe the way we relate to ourselves and others. This episode is a heartfelt reminder that we are all meaning makers, wired for connection, and capable of great courage and contribution. As you will see in this week’s show, we discover how embracing your true self – light, shadow, and all – can lead to a more purposeful, connected, and joy-filled life. Jules Kuroda’s life passion is helping people get past the ideas they have of themselves to unlock more fulfillment. She hopes to bring more joy and understanding into the world through her book The N8 Self. The N8 Self invites the reader into holistic connection beyond just the mind, body, and heart and into the aspect of self we don’t talk much about, the human spirit. This powerful part of our human experience drives our need for connection and meaning. Without a framework to wrestle with, this part of self often gets left out of how we think about ourselves. The N8 Self offers a tangible way to understand and cultivate more meaning and purpose in our lives. Through eight characteristics, the reader will discover both the individual and universal way we are all wired for connection and meaning. Discover principles that: Give you different tools to shift listlessness and anxietyIdentify core values and ways you long to contributeCultivate gratitude, generosity, and creativityDiscover meaning through rethinking connection The N8 Self is for those who are seeking for more meaning and purpose in life, or for those who are looking to understand themselves more fully. To learn more about her book visit: https://then8self.myshopify.com/ Her definition of Self Love is: being, and taking care of the deepest part of you, the hidden parts of you, the secrets, the treasure… and let it shine. Let your light shine. Her favourite quote is from Rumi: “Out beyond ideas of wrong-doing and right-doing, there is a field. I’ll meet you there.” Links to follow: N8 Book: https://then8self.myshopify.com/ Website: https://www.n8self.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/n8coach Quotes: I have worked with many different cultures which is actually a connective thread. The connective thread of humanity is the essence the spiritual connection. In Japan the only way we could communicate was through experiences! I learned how to not feel alone and for that I am so grateful. It showed me the fortitude and what I was made of and that I can do really hard things. We are so easily distracted its important we notice those distractions and then pause. Are you paying attention to a person you are listening to or are you paying attention to the thoughts you have about them. We don’t often experience full true presence with another and when we do it is so powerful. There is something really powerful in the reframe. It is very easy to get cynical and hardened by the world. I wanted to give language to the innate spiritual part of us. It’s important we recognise the light within us and encourage the light in others. What’s the contribution you want to make? There is connection with self and there is connection with others. Judgement keeps us from being connected to one another. A smile is a small way to connect. Self-sacrifice is embedded in courage. A good wolf and bad wolf lives inside of you – it depends on which one you feed. Life teaches people how to become hard and it is possible to succumb to the dark. Bravery is facing a fear, courage is doing something willingly and important to do. Service is a way of healing a part of those wounds, helping someone else. Creativity is the spice of life. It’s more blessed to give than receive. We all seek meaning and significance. Meaning helps us to become who we are meant to be – we are all meaning makers. We are on a journey of learning. Loneliness is not isolatorary, we are not alone, loneliness is a ...

  • SLP 497: Self Love Quicky - Celebrating Love Life and Moments
    Jul 16 2025
In this week’s Quicky of the Self Love Podcast, we are talking all about the beauty and power of celebration – why it matters, how it transforms us, and why even the smallest gesture can create lasting memories. From the science behind feel-good neurochemicals to the soulful art of presence, we can see that birthdays, weddings, graduations, and everyday moments are sacred opportunities to honour life and love. There are a few oil blends for special occasions to elevate every celebration too. A beautiful reminder to lead with love, make the effort, and cherish the people who matter most. Here are some of my favourite celebration blends and oils: Birthdays: Orange for joy, Ylang Ylang for heart connection, and Jasmine to elevate the spirit. Diffuser blend: 3 drops Sweet Orange, 2 drops Ylang Ylang, 1 drop Jasmine. Anniversaries: Rose for unconditional love, Sandalwood for sacred intimacy, and Patchouli to ground connection. Diffuser blend: 2 drops Rose, 2 drops Sandalwood, 1 drop Patchouli. Weddings: Frankincense for spiritual blessing, Geranium for harmony, and Lavender for peace. Diffuser blend: 2 drops Frankincense, 2 drops Geranium, 2 drops Lavender. Graduations: Peppermint for clarity, Lemon for focus, and Basil for motivation. Diffuser blend: 2 drops Peppermint, 2 drops Lemon, 1 drop Basil. New Pets or Babies: Roman Chamomile for calm, Mandarin for gentleness, and Bergamot for joy. Diffuser blend: 2 drops Chamomile, 2 drops Mandarin, 1 drop Bergamot. All the essential oils mentioned in this show can be found at www.twenty8.com. When we pause to celebrate, we honour not just the person or event, but also the journey that brought us to that moment. When we celebrate, we boost feel-good chemicals like dopamine, serotonin, and oxytocin – the neurotransmitters of happiness, love, and connection. They actually enhance immunity, reduce stress, and deepen relationships. A celebration is a sacred act of presence. It’s not the size of the celebration – it’s the intent behind it that lingers. Say it. Show it. Celebrate it. SELF LOVE PODCAST SPONSOR LINKS THANKYOU FOR LISTENING… If you would like to share your feedback on this podcast please head to my Facebook and Instagram pages below. • SLP 496: Open Conversations on Life, Love and Legacy with Ben Allan
    Jul 14 2025
‘Just have really open honest communication with your kids, don’t shy away from subjects. Don’t shy away from conversations. I really try to maintain that with my own kids to not really make anything taboo with them. I want to have really open conversations. I know some parents might be awkward talking about teenage suicide and self-harm, those kind of mental health and emotional concerns that we have with the youth. But don’t be scared to talk to your kids about that. Actually, if anyone has gone through mental first aid, especially youth mental first aid, they train you to be really up front about an issue like suicide and to ask really direct questions.’ ~ Ben Allan In this heartfelt and thought-provoking episode, Ben Allan – a devoted father of nearly six, professional photographer, musician, and passionate advocate for men’s mental health – shares the story of his life and the lessons he’s learned along the way. From his transition from Newcastle to the Sunshine Coast and building a successful photography business, to his experiences in parenting teenagers and navigating co-parenting, Ben brings depth, honesty, and humour to every topic. He opens up about the challenges of losing and regaining custody of his children, the emotional toll of guilt and shame, and the transformational power of self-awareness and personal growth. He shares the emotional layers behind wedding photography, capturing raw and authentic moments over posed perfection. This conversation explores the impact of social media on self-worth, the complexities of raising teens in today’s digital world, and the value of conscious parenting and emotional intelligence. Ben’s insights into relationships, the difference between love and deep care, and the importance of self-love and inner work make this episode a truly inspiring listen. A powerful conversation filled with wisdom, compassion, and hope – with a shared vision to continue these vital discussions and make a difference in the lives of others, especially men navigating life, love, and legacy. Ben Allan was born in Sydney, raised in Newcastle, and currently lives on the beautiful Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia, with his partner and 5 (yes, five!) gorgeous children. Never one to sit still, Ben has been an active small business owner and developer since his early 20’s. This has included a range of business, technology, creative and social endeavours. Ben’s current businesses include: Ignite Respite & Support: an NDIS support provider working with children and teens. Two Hearts Photo + Video: wedding photography & video servicing the Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast, Brisbane and beyond. The 40 Year Old Fuckup: A podcast exploring life in all its messy glory. Ben holds a BA Social Science (Social Welfare), a Diploma of Counselling, and is trained in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention and Youth Mental Health First Aid. He is currently completing a Juris Doctor at Griffith University, with the aims of working in the family and criminal law systems. Yet there is a creative side to him that yearns to be fulfilled, with a love of music, photography and video production, you might also catch Ben playing a gig at a local bar, shooting a wedding, or filming a music video clip. His definition of Self Love is making decisions and doing actions you are proud of. It is being true and authentic to yourself and doing things every day that you are proud of. I have always been very creative, we are all multi-faceted really. Learning is an addiction of mine. I live and breathe by my calendar, if it’s not in there it doesn’t happen! There is a real difference to loving someone and being in love. I am looking for those moments of connection. Our job is to create those moments and give them a moment to connect. Comparison is the thief of joy. There is more than just the surface of what we see. Go easy on yourself as a parent and on your kids, we are all navigating this together. Have really open conversations with your kids don’t shy away from the hard conversations. Build an environment and a relationship of trust. I want them to be educated and aware of what is out there. Adolescence is a very new thing in our culture. Our youth need guidance. It is important to maintain boundaries. Remain centred in yourself. What am I thinking, what am I feeling and how am I going to react to this situation. Self-awareness and self-grounding is so much better when you remain calm. Every phase of parenting is fantastic and fascinating. Fear is a cage we put ourselves in. When you lose big, it puts you into a state to evolve or ...

  • SLP 495: Self Love Quicky - Masculine and Feminine Energy
    Jul 9 2025
In this week’s Quicky we explore the concept of balancing masculine and feminine energies, and how these archetypal forces manifest in every one of us regardless of gender and the characteristics associated with each. We look at how imbalance between these energies can lead to various negative feelings and certain essential oils we can use as a tool to reconnect. We talk daily practices to help activate and integrate both energies, and the importance of finding balance between the two energies for personal growth and well-being. All the essential oils mentioned in this show can be found at www.twenty8.com. Don’t forget to use your Self Love Podcast special code below. Links to follow: Website: https://twenty8.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/twenty.8.essential/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/twenty8essentials Quotes: Masculine and feminine energy are two powerful, complementary forces that exist in all of us. Masculine and feminine energies are archetypal forces. Masculine Energy (Divine Masculine) is about action, structure, direction, protection, focus, doing, logic, and presence. Feminine Energy (Divine Feminine) is about intuition, receptivity, flow, creativity, emotion, being, nurturing, and connection. The goal isn’t to be one or the other. Balance brings harmony. Integration brings wholeness. Feminine oils include rose, clary sage, geranium, orange and ylang ylang. Masculine oils include cedarwood, black pepper, rosemary, peppermint and vetiver. You are not too much. You are not too soft, too fierce, too wild, or too bold. Masculine and feminine energy are not in conflict – they are in love. • SLP 494: Accepting Things As They Are with Chaz Arachchi
    Jul 9 2025
‘My Dad right now has been diagnosed with some hardening of the arteries in his heart, and it looks to be pretty serious. I don’t want to make this morbid, but I got a real sense of mortality very quickly. But I feel like this is the same sort of thing. I am pretty sure he is a healthy man, he will be fine, but I think the word is ‘acceptance’. Rather than being scared or not really dealing with it, I know this is a part of life, this is what happens, we can’t be here forever, and accepting things as they are and really asking yourself, if this person mattered to you enough, what can you do for this person to create more beauty, love and joy in their life and support?’ ~ Chaz Arachchi In this inspiring episode of the Self Love Podcast, Kim chats with Chaz Arachchi about his powerful journey from Sri Lanka to Australia, the deep influence of his grandfather, and the lessons of peace and acceptance he carries today. They explore Chaz’s career pivot from law to physiotherapy, his entrepreneurial ventures in property development, and his insights into parenting and marriage. Chaz opens up about writing his new book The Physio Practice Growth System – a comprehensive guide for clinic owners – and shares practical business strategies, pricing advice, and personal philosophies on self-love and purpose. A rich conversation about legacy, leadership, and living with intention. Chaz Arachchi is the founder of Robusq Property and PhysioMarketing.co, and the author of the upcoming book Physio Practice Growth System: A Step-By-Step Blueprint to Build a Practice That Runs and Grows Without You. He’s owned and operated multiple physiotherapy clinics since the age of 23, and now leads a marketing agency that helps practice owners fill their diaries, hire with confidence, and scale sustainably – using his trademarked The Own Your Area Method™. Chaz is also a seasoned property developer, specialising in medium-density, five-storey projects through his company, Robusq Property. He’s personally raised millions to fund developments – all self-taught, with no formal training. When he’s not helping clinics grow or managing builds, you’ll find him in the kitchen cooking for his wife Jess some of her favourite meals or chasing his daughter Emilia around the house. His definition of Self Love is truly around ikigai – knowing your life purpose. It is honouring the part of you that you really yearn to be and to do. His favourite quote is: Don’t go for perfection. When you follow that path – your ikigai – you have a new level and new problems. I love how calm, grounded and peaceful he was and I loved his simplicity. I am so thankful for all he taught me. Acceptance – accepting things as they are. I have a very high degree of quality. I get off on solving complex problems. No matter how hard we try we just cannot ship junk. Tony Robbins said we are one of three types – the artist, the leader/manager or the entrepreneur. If you are going to go for it – go for it big. I have a mission to thrive in life not just survive. You want them to become a better leader than you. I want to change enough to keep extending the reach and impact. I want to help people ethically increase the lifetime value of their clients. If the value is there they don’t care! Follow your path – your ikigai. Don’t go for perfection – done is always better than perfect. Have the courage to follow your heart. New level, new problems. Jul 2 2025

In this week’s episode we dive into something that affects us all at some point – self-sabotage. That inner voice that tells you you’re not ready, not good enough, or makes you hesitate just when you’re about to shine. We take a look at the neuroscience behind why we do this, how to shift out of those limiting patterns, and some powerful, nurturing rituals to help you reconnect to your truth. No matter where you are at this show is a beautiful reminder that you are enough. It’s time to move through self-sabotage with compassion, understanding, and a whole lot of self-love.

Quotes: Self-sabotage is when we get in our own way – often unconsciously. At its core, self-sabotage is often a form of self-protection. The amygdala – our brain’s alarm system – loves familiarity. The prefrontal cortex is responsible for rational decision-making. The default mode network is the part of the brain active when we’re not focused. Self-sabotage is not a character flaw – it’s a protective brain habit. Habits can be reprogrammed. The body always knows the truth. You are not broken. You are not lazy or weak. You are the boss of your mind.

  • SLP 492: Fitness, Food Addiction and Freedom with Julia Allison
    Jul 1 2025
‘Food became a lot more than just food for me. It became my… the word ‘friend’ comes to mind. It became the thing that was there when I was in a lonely space or if I was in a vulnerable space. I never knew (and as you know with the work that we’ve done) it’s all about understanding the unconscious. I never knew any of that. I never understood what was going on. All I knew was that I had this problem and I never knew how to stop it and it just escalated and escalated and escalated until it became an eating disorder.’ ~ Julia Allison In this deeply moving episode of the Self Love Podcast, we get to hear Julia Allison speaking about the complex and often hidden world of mental health, shame, and eating disorders – particularly within the fitness industry. Julia courageously shares her personal journey through food addiction, body image challenges, and bulimia, highlighting the power of vulnerability, intuition, and self-love in the healing process. We cover the emotional roots of addiction, the importance of professional support, and how embracing our full selves – flaws and all – can lead to true transformation. This is a raw, compassionate, and empowering conversation that offers hope, insight, and connection for anyone on a path to healing. Julia Allison has been a passionate force in the health and fitness industry for over 15 years, recently retiring from personal training to focus on her growing practice in nutrition and coaching. Her journey has been deeply shaped by personal experiences with eating disorders, including bulimia, binge eating, and food addiction – challenges that have become both her greatest teachers and the catalyst for profound self-discovery. What began as a personal struggle evolved into a powerful path of healing and growth, leading Julia to study Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), Hypnotherapy, and complete a Bachelor of Health Science in Nutritional Medicine. With a unique blend of lived experience and professional expertise, she has created The Thrive Blueprint – a transformative program designed to help others reclaim balance, nourish their bodies, and give voice to the emotional roots of disordered eating. Julia’s mission is to create a safe, supportive space where individuals can reconnect with themselves, foster self-awareness, and thrive – physically, emotionally, and mentally. Her definition of Self Love is to love all the parts of self, the flaws and all of you. Her favourite quote is: ‘Trust in divine timing.’ Links to follow: Email: julia.allison.coaching@outlook.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/_julia.allison/ Butterfly Foundation for Eating Disorders: https://butterfly.org.au/ Quotes: I remember thinking – what on Earth am I doing?
