  • SLP 519: Self Love Quicky - Why Reading Labels Matter
    Oct 1 2025
In this weeks quicky Kim discusses the importance of reading labels to avoid harmful chemicals in skincare and food products. She highlights common red flags to look out for such as parabens, SLS, phthalates, synthetic fragrances in skincare and artificial sweeteners, preservatives, and flavour enhancers in food. Kim encourages choosing natural and whole ingredients and suggests making small, gradual changes to reduce one’s toxic load. She emphasises that reading labels is an act of self care and self love, as it allows individuals to make informed choices about what goes into and onto their bodies. All the essential oils mentioned in this show can be found at www.twenty8.com. Don’t forget to use your Self Love Podcast special code below. Links to follow: Website: https://twenty8.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/twenty.8.essential/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/twenty8essentials Quotes: Labels tell a story! If only we take the time to read them. Most of us are unknowingly layering our bodies with toxins that accumulate and build up over time. What we eat and what we put on our skin directly influences our health, hormones, energy, and even our mood. Clever marketing often disguises harmful ingredients under ‘natural’ claims or pretty packaging. If you can’t pronounce it, your body probably can’t process it. When you know what to avoid, you get to discover incredible alternatives. Real food doesn’t have a label. Each small choice reduces your toxic load and strengthens your body’s resilience. Reading labels is an act of self care and self love. I choose what goes into and onto my body. Choose things that are close to nature. Every swap you make is a vote for your health, for your worth and for a cleaner planet. The choices you make on a daily basis truly do matter. • SLP 518: From Healing to Herbalism: Janette Tibbs Journey into Natural Living Part 1
    Sep 29 2025
In this two part conversation Kim speaks with Janette Tibbs also known as Nette, founder of Magic Earth Mama, about her powerful journey from personal health struggles to creating natural, plant-based products. Nette shares how herbalism, nutrition, and self-care rituals transformed her health, inspired her product line and deepened her connection with nature. She also offers practical insights into safer skincare, parental intuition, and holistic living, encouraging listeners to embrace self love and intentional wellness. About Janette A dedication to a natural and organic lifestyle came from a desire to radically improve my health after a childhood and adolescence of debilitating conditions. Finding and utilizing the holistic philosophy absolutely re-established my health in mind, body and spirit. Studies into complimentary therapies and alternative health techniques has been an ongoing process for the last 20 or more years. After suffering my first major reaction to general medication at the age of six, severe dermatitis episodes from the age of 15, and chronic migraines that eventuated into seizures by the time I was 18, I could see this pattern emerging where there was no ‘one reason’ why my health was failing, but a conglomeration of choices that were shaping my life. Specialists told me I was going to live a life of blood tests and medication, but I decided to refuse to do that. I chose instead to educate myself, find the best possible life I could and improve my health bit by bit. This included studying health and nutrition, herbalism, esoteric and complimentary therapies along with meditation and energy healing. After two decades of study I have embraced the beauty of truthful, high quality, natural products, super nutrition and the stability of a considered mind. I feel I had to achieve this level of health and strength to be able to genuinely say ‘Yes, this works’. My focus is firmly on what I term ‘real natural’, using the whole botanical wherever possible, and formulating in micro-batches to maintain freshness and potency. After studying herbalism, aromatherapy, complimentary therapies and Holistic Feng Shui, I found that I was able to weave together healing through various modalities, maintaining ’High Quality Qi’ in the creations I produced. It was only when my health reached a critical point of achievement that I felt I could begin to offer it to others. I am now in the fortunate position of formulating products for myself, my clientele and other businesses, using nourishing, high quality ingredients that are truly ‘real natural’ and botanic-organic, and which do not use any synthetics at all. This has given me the opportunity to be of service to those who also desire a less toxic and healthier life experience. Her definition of Self Love is: Intrinsic to self respect, reciprocal with the environment and people around you. Self respect to want something good for yourself and by doing so becoming able to give to others. Her favourite quote is: We are all responsible for our future. I don’t create a product unless I have tested it on myself and lived with it first. Cures are not magic bullets they are all part of processes and protocols. I always tuned in to what was effective rather than what was on trend. Failures in formulation are not mistakes. They were lessons that guide me to a better solution. Pregnancy taught me to prioritise my health and trust in nature’s support systems. You will always learn from people as long as you are willing to listen to what they say, research and take the time to learn. I always felt a big connection to where I was living and being outside. Herbs like holy basil, yarrow (balancing hormones for women) and helichrysum (wound healer) are more than remedies. They are teachers. Traditional knowledge play a role in our intuitive understanding of herbs. The information has always been there, it is whether people are receptive. Plants protect themselves as they can’t move away from a threat. They have abilities to keep animals and people away from them. Hands on healing is so beautiful for mother to baby/child. Parents should cultivate their own confidence and not hand over all authority to the medical system. I encourage parents to have the confidence to take responsibility for their own children and to observe. A mother knows their child more than anyone else. And they should be given more respect as to what they are doing and knowing for their child’s health. Intuition and observation are powerful tools in parenting and healthcare. When I released myself to be myself more ...

  • SLP 517: Self Love Quicky - The Gift of Parenting Tweens and Teens
    Sep 24 2025
In this episode, Kim discusses the challenges and rewards of parenting tweens and teens, emphasising that this stage is a period of growth for both parents and children. She explains that adolescence involves significant brain development and that the natural pulling away by teens is a necessary part of their journey towards independence. Kim encourages parents to focus on personal growth, authentic communication, and self love while navigating this stage, reminding listeners that the process is about nurturing relationships rather than seeking perfection. All the essential oils mentioned in this show can be found at www.twenty8.com. Don’t forget to use your Self Love Podcast special code below. Links to follow: Website: https://twenty8.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/twenty.8.essential/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/twenty8essentials Quotes: Parenting tweens and teens isn’t just their growth journey, but ours as well. The natural pulling away is a biological and psychological necessity. It is how they form their own identity. Parenting isn’t about controlling them. It is about growing alongside them. When we do the inner work and show up authentically, with love and honesty, we create a space where they can thrive. Our children are some of our greatest teachers, reflecting back our patterns, values, and even our wounds. They invite us to practice patience, compassion, and self love. This is not a battle to win, but a relationship to nurture. Parenting isn’t about perfection. It’s about presence, love, and the willingness to grow together. • SLP 516: Parenting Tweens and Teens with Michelle Mitchell
    Sep 22 2025
In this insightful episode, Kim speaks with parenting educator Michelle Mitchell who shares her professional journey and expertise in working with tweens and teens, discussing the challenges and joys of parenting during the teenage years. The conversation covers various aspects of parenting, including the importance of balancing independence with support, managing technology use, addressing mental health concerns, and navigating family dynamics. Michelle emphasises the need for parents to educate themselves about their children’s experiences, maintain authentic relationships, while providing guidance and support through the complex teenage years. Packed with stories, wisdom and practical tools, this conversation will leave you encouraged and equipped to parent with self love. About Michelle Michelle Mitchell is an author and speaker, sought after for her compassionate and grounded advice for parenting tweens and teens. She began as a classroom teacher but soon found a special interest in wellbeing. In 2000 she left teaching to establish a health promotion charity and psychology clinic which delivered life skills programs and psychological services to thousands of young people and their families each year. Today she uses her experience to write and speak in schools, community events and through media. The core of her work is helping parents be the trusted, leadership presence that their growing kids need. Her definition of Self Love is: At its heart, Michelle sees self love as a parent showing up happy and authentic, so our kids learn they have permission to do the same. Happiness is important, relationships are give and take and chasing your dreams is something to be proud of. Her favourite quote : If a mum says “You are my 7minutes” and the child says “What 7 minutes” and mum replies “After death the human brain lives for 7 minutes to replay its best memories”. “You are my 7 minutes” Links to follow: Website: www.michellemitchell.org Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/michellemitchell.author/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/michellemitchellspeaker Quotes: I know that one caring trusted adult in a kid’s life can literally change the trajectory of a child’s life. Parenting has never been more challenging. There is a grief of letting go in the growing up years that we don’t talk about enough. Parenting is u turn that comes right on back to you. Parenting flows through three stages: dependence, independence, and interdependence. There is flip of being so needed and then receiving messages that you are not needed in the same way. I talk to parents about owning that needy energy. Their ability to differentiate from us as human being is so important. We want the stretch to be manageable, a safe pull away. Our kids need to make mistakes. I am expecting you to act like a teenager, but you need to expect me to act like a parent! Parents chill out! Your kids are ok! AI and social media are shaping a generation. We can’t ignore it, but we can guide our kids through it with boundaries. We need to be on the front foot in our homes. Keep devices out of bedrooms, use parental controls, and have open conversations about tech usage with children. The world is not a safe place, and we need to educate our kids. Parents don’t need to have all the answers. They need to be the safe place where kids feel seen and significant. We need to know who our anchor people are. Strengthen those support layers so no one carries the load alone. When our kids are not communicating. We think talking is the answer when connection is the answer. There is a big difference. What they are needing to know is am I safe, do I belong, and do I matter? They are the things we need to try and answer as a community. Never hesitate to ask for professional support if things are spiralling. If we want to get serious about kid’s mental health, we need to see life through their lens and step into their shoes. Challenging teenage years aren’t lost years. They are full of opportunities for growth, humour, and deeper connection. Limit questions to teenagers to no more than two at a time to avoid appearing needy. It is natural for partners to have different ideas due to their diverse upbringings and backgrounds, but the common goal should be the child’s wellbeing. Using a timer to allow each partner to express their views without interruption. Test and measure ideas when there’s no mutual agreement. Teenagers don’t expect perfection. Perfection is intimidating to them. Get a bit messy with them. Be authentic. Assess whether school issues are “high stake” or “low stake” before determining your response approach. Don’t take teenage disrespect personally. It is usually a reflection of their struggle, not your failure as a parent. Go with the flow! We need to be sharp with them with they are disrespectful. For Example “Love you but don’t love the way you are speaking to me”. To the single parent, the ...

Quotes:d Life is happening is the subtle, quiet nudges, gentle energy and soft whispers. Subtle energy is everywhere. Even five minutes of silence is enough to recalibrate. When we get quiet our nervous system settles and in that softer state, we hear more. Use your senses as guides. Use the power of aromatherapy to help allow your body to shift or still. Tune into your body’s language, it is always speaking to you. The body never lies. Create rituals that honour the energy flow. Rituals train you to move more gently, more consciously and more aligned with your inner world. Trust the whispers. Self love means trusting your intuition. Subtle energy is pure love. You already hold the answers that you need.

  • SLP 514: Reconnecting Humans with Nature with Blair Beattie
    Sep 15 2025
In this deeply reflective conversation, Blair and Kim explore what it means to restore our relationship with the earth in a world increasingly defined by disconnection. Together, they trace humanity’s historical separation from nature. Rooted in the divide between science and magic and amplified through modernisation, industrialisation, and technological progress. Blair shares insights from his work in sustainable farming and his personal journey toward attunement, natural rhythms, and cosmological time. From the power of walking barefoot on the earth to honouring solstices, equinoxes, and moon cycles, he reminds us of the simple, accessible ways we can return to harmony with nature and ourselves. The conversation weaves through themes of human behaviour, societal evolution, and the paradox of progress, highlighting how rules, structures, and even climate narratives can both guide and constrain us. Together, Blair and Kim discuss the importance of self love, intuition, and collective awakening as tools for navigating global challenges and personal growth. You will leave this episode with a renewed sense of hope, grounded practices for attunement, and an invitation to honour the wonder within and the natural cycles around us. About Blair: Soil-wise, soul-deep systems thinker — part earth whisperer, part community weaver, part cosmic cartographer. Rooted in the regenerative agriculture movement, Blair is not just growing food; he is cultivating connection — between land, people, water, and purpose. Work is both grounded and galactic: in one breath mapping crop rotations, in the next, you’re studying planetary dharma a fusion of Indo-Tibetan and Western pyscho spiritual tech — seeing Earth as a living university and humanity as students learning to live in sacred reciprocity. Blair’s mind moves like a keyline plough: precise, pattern-aware, and always in service to flow — be it water, energy, or story. Whether planning planting cycles or guiding audiences through sacred food visualisations, he blends practical know-how with mythic vision. For Blair soil and soul are not separate. Healing the land is planetary work, and planetary work is spiritual work. Speaking the language of biodiversity, sacred cycles, and systems change — not as abstract ideals, but as a lived ethic, a path of service, and a call to awakening. In short a land steward with a poet’s touch and a cosmic compass, reminding us that regeneration isn’t just a method — it’s a movement, a dharma, and a destiny. His definition of Self Love is: Blair’s definition is through a Buddhists lens. Love yourself as you tend to a flame in the wind with care, with shelter, with quiet hands. See this body, this mind, not as mine, but as a rare and precious vessel carried through countless lifetimes to arrive here now. Pour compassion into your heart. Not to fill it with self but to let its waters overflow. Washing the edges between you and the world until there is only thing, one breathe and one heart beating. This is self love to know your own worth because you recognise the worth of all beings to tend to your own awakening because the world is waiting for your light. His favourite quote is: The next Buddha may be a Sangha -Thich Nhat Nanh The next enlightenment will come through as a collective. That is us doing it together! Links to follow: @the_agventure @farmersfootprintaustralia Websites: www.farmersfootprint.org.au www.planetarydharma.com Quotes: My quest – what am I doing here? Who am I? What is my purpose here on earth? I have found purpose and passion in reconnecting people back to the food that they eat, the people that produce their food and in essence themselves. Mother Nature had always been my place of refuge. I always escaped to nature. I felt safe, held and supported. Modernisaton has created a story of separation between humans and nature, leading to an identity crisis. We are divine creatures and here to do a lot more! We are incredible technology on our own. The separation of science and magic 2000 years marking the beginning of commodifying everything from food to human relationships. Attunement is about tuning into the energetic system of another person. It is something children do naturally through wonder and awe. Touch is an amazing congruent for energetic exchange. These moments of connection are always available. Put down the phone, touch a tree, walk barefoot. Human made time structures have pulled us out of harmony. By honouring solstices, equinoxes & moon cycles we can return to natural rhythms. We have an invitation to wake up and watch the sun come up and what her go down. Honour the moments that are outside the captured time frames. Faith and hope are essential tools for navigating struggle. Pain is inevitable but it is also part of growth. Every time there was a challenge I can look back and say that was part of my growth and evolution. We are here for a human experience and that encompasses all ...

She shares why these moments are a natural part of growth and how to navigate the grief and disappointment that can follow. With gentle guidance, Kim invites you to reframe the question from “Who am I without this?” to “What am I becoming?” and offers practical tools like journaling, meditation, and essential oils to reconnect with your heart’s true desires. What have I learned, gained, or become stronger in along the way? Without this role, title, or achievement – who am I at my core? Who am I becoming because of this experience? When do I feel most alive, most joyful, most myself? If no one had expectations of me, what would I choose? What in my life feels heavy and draining? What feels light, expansive, and energising? • SLP 512: From Perfection to Finding Soul Space with Kelly Hine
    Sep 8 2025
In this powerful episode, Kelly Hine opens up about her extraordinary life journey from growing up in a strict religious sect in Perth to becoming a teacher, world traveller, meditation leader, and women’s empowerment coach. Kelly shares with Kim what it was like to live between “two worlds”, her school life and her church community, before marrying young within the church. She reflects on the challenges of motherhood, perfectionism, chronic pain, and divorce, and how these experiences ultimately became catalysts for growth and transformation. Her story unfolds through seasons of teaching, traveling, overcoming family struggles, and discovering meditation, which led her to create retreats and her women’s community, Soul Space. Kelly speaks candidly about surrendering control, embracing imperfection, and redefining self love as an essential practice of authenticity and self forgiveness. This conversation is an inspiring reminder that our hardest struggles often carry the seeds of our deepest growth. About Kelly Kelly Hine is a transformation teacher who specialises in helping motivated women navigate major life transitions by guiding them home to their authentic selves. Despite appearing to have it all – married with two children, a beautiful home, and a respected career as an award-winning educator – Kelly was drowning in anxiety, insomnia, and deep disconnection. Even after making brave external changes, including leaving a dysfunctional marriage, she discovered that lasting peace and fulfillment can only come from within. Through her own profound healing journey – from lying awake thinking “I can’t stand this anymore” to now living by the mantra “I create my life from the inside out” – Kelly found the path from external success to authentic fulfillment. Over the past decade, Kelly has developed her signature Inside-Out Method™ – a unique approach that works at the conscious, subconscious, superconscious, and energetic levels, combining modern neuroscience, evidence-based mindfulness, gentle subconscious reprogramming, spiritual wisdom and energy work. Through her 8+ years running Soul Space – her heart-centered online community and her transformational retreats, Kelly guides women from perfectionism and people-pleasing to living aligned and on purpose. Based in Fremantle, Australia, Kelly’s mission is to help women stop abandoning themselves for approval and start living from their inner wisdom, especially during life’s biggest transitions and crossroads. Her definition of Self Love is: Self-love is a verb, a doing thing as much as a feeling. It is a responsibility, not an indulgence. It involves knowing, loving, and being your authentic self unconditionally. It is an ongoing practice. Her favourite quote is: A person sees in the world what they carry in their heart. Our heart is the portal to our soul. If this speaks to your heart and you’re prepared to show up fully for yourself, book your call at: kellyhine.com/selflove Quotes: I would have never imagined I would be doing what I am doing today from my background and my past history. Responsibility was a big thing for me growing up. Looking back, I can see the trail, how one thing leads to another thing. I love being able to inspire other people. My thoughts and beliefs impacted my emotions. I had traditional beliefs, and I felt stuck! You can make big shifts, but life will not stop presenting challenges. Mediation became the doorway to a whole new life. I dove deep into spiritually and wisdom for myself. There was a cord around my heart pulling me gently to the next step. Beliefs are what form our view of the world, our behaviours. There are the conscious beliefs and the unconscious beliefs. They are just beliefs; they are not the truth. It is because of the struggles that we evolve. Perfection is killing our joy, embrace the imperfections. Stop projecting into the future, be in the here, now, today! Letting go of control as a mother was the most painful and powerful lesson. Surrender changed everything. Letting go! If you don’t love yourself, you can’t be your best to others. Forgiveness means looking back and knowing we did the best we could with the awareness we had. Self acceptance is a practice and an ongoing journey. My focus is guiding women to be back home.
