Headline - "California governor candidate suggests women could compete against men in track at the 2028 LA Olympics."a. Betty Yee (the candidate) was on Piers Morgan's show when she gave that opinion (sort of). b. She kind of got bullied into that position.https://www.letsrun.com/news/2025/10/california-governor-candidate-suggests-women-could-compete-against-men-in-track-at-2028-la-olympics/https://x.com/PiersUncensored/status/19781925860253412844. Headline - "Having a baby takes more energy than running marathons for 9 months straight."a. Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is the number of calories your body burns to perform its most basic, life sustaining functions while at rest. b. How much above your BMR can you sustain? Based on a 2019 Duke University study - The ceiling was found to be approximately 2.5 times your BMR. Meaning your body cannot digest and absorb enough calories to fuel a level above 2.5 times your BMR. If you are above that level your body will have to burn its own fat and muscle stores, which would not be sustainable long term. c. The study also found "that over the course of a nine-month pregnancy, a women's body operates at an average of 2.2 times her BMR every day for 270 days. d. During a marathon a runner may be operating at 15.6 times their BMR but only for a short period of time. e. A subsequent study, published in Science in May of 2024, calculated the total energy cost of a full term pregnancy to be approximately 49,753 dietary calories - that is equivalent to 30 full marathons over that40 week period. https://www.therunningweek.com/post/growing-a-baby-takes-more-energy-than-running-marathons-for-9-months-straighthttps://www.calculator.net/bmr-calculator.html?cage=63&csex=m&cheightfeet=6&cheightinch=0&cpound=148&cheightmeter=180&ckg=60&cmop=0&coutunit=c&cformula=m&cfatpct=20&ctype=standard&x=Calculate5. Ali Truwit - who is she?a. Yale swimmer and graduateb. Two Paralympic medalist in 2024c. Oh yea, she also had her foot bit off by a shark two years ago. d. And why am I highlighting her on a running podcast - because she is running the NYC marathon in November 2025https://www.nyrr.org/run/photos-and-stories/2025/set-the-pace-episode-130-ali-truwit6. Sep 25 2025

Debrief on World Track and Field Championshipshttps://www.flotrack.org/articles/14534302-2025-world-athletic-track-and-field-championship-results-see-who-wonObservations:a. Men vs women - it seems like there were way more upsets on the men's side. The favorite women won almost all (100 - MJW, 200 - MJW, 400 - SML, 1500 - Faith, 5000 - Chebet, 10,000- Chebet) running events (except 800). Why?b. Will Kenny Bednarek ever win an individual global gold?c. Crazy run off between USA and Kenya in the men's 4x400 - Zambia impeded both the USA and Kenya in different exchanges in the qualifying round. After a protest, at 11PM on Saturday night that there would be a run-off on Sunday morning at 10:40 AM before the finals later that day - USA was 2nd to Botswana in the finals. d. Biggest surprises - Men's 1500 - the big five all with no medals? Kerr and Laros were the only ones to make the finals and he hurt his calf a couple of laps in. Laros had no kick in this race. - Grant Fisher no medals? - Ingerbrigtsen - no medals? - Cole Hocker winning the 5000 in a fast race. His last lap was 52 seconds.3. Another marathon major - BerlinSawe was at WR pace at half way (60:16) but warm conditions slowed him down in the second half. Finished at 2:02:16 - four minutes ahead of second place. Rosemary Wanjiru (Ken) won the women's race in 2:21:05 (not particularly fast).https://www.letsrun.com/news/2025/09/sabastian-sawe-stays-perfect-at-26-2-by-winning-2025-berlin-marathon-in-20215/
