So much to cover in this episode! Recorded on 20th October, Kate and Robin start by talking about Robin’s difficulties adjusting to life post-race after his successful 24-hour run in London. They discuss the importance of openness and talking about mental wellbeing and he’s now happily chasing a new 5k PB instead of running the Arc of Attrition.

They celebrate Sarah Webster’s incredible performance and the British team’s success at the 24-Hour World Championships, before discussing Kate’s recent women-only group run in the Peak District and why it mattered.

At the time of recording, the Backyard Ultra was still underway and the runners were on lap 46, two days in and Robin and Kate talked about Sarah Perry’s chances of success. It’s funny to look back now we know just how successful she was.

Finally, they’re joined by their guest, the ever-positive Sophie Grant, who brings her trademark energy to the conversation. They chat about her Tor des Géants race, nutrition, training plans, and her upcoming entry in the Winter Spine Race. The episode also touches on Off Course, a new film following Sophie and Stephanie Case as they navigate both elite sport and the journey to motherhood.

Sarah broke the female World Record last weekend at the IAU World 24hr Track Championships, running an incredible 278km/173 miles. This was only her 2nd 24hr race and we discussed her running history and last couple of years competing which brought her to Albi, France this month. She also describes the team spirit; Sarah together with Kelsey Price (257km) and Sophie Power (233km) won the Female Team Gold Medal, but the rest of the British runners and crew worked hard to ensure they were supported should anything go wrong. A fascinating story and I’m sure we’ll see Sarah breaking records on the trails soon too.
