    Episode 6: 'Our Doctor and Friend'. The last in our 'Searching for the Grey Lady' podcast series.

    In this episode we feature a story discovered in the 'Hendon and Finchley Times' June 23rd, 1916 by Laura McGuinness, Head of History at Claremont High School Academy and a "forever grateful former patient at the RNOH", who volunteered her support for our Podcast project. 

    In this Episode we hear how the communities of Edgware and Little Stanmore enthusiastically welcome and celebrate popular local doctor Dr Findlater when he returns from the Front Line on leave in June 1916, after being awarded the D.S.O. (Distinguished Service Order) whilst serving in the Royal Army Medical Corps during devastating campaigns in Gallipoli.

    Miss Mary Wardell founded a hospital on the RNOH Stanmore site back in the 1880’s, and is rumoured to appear as the ‘grey lady’ ghost from time to time.

    Funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, ‘Searching for the Grey Lady: A Ghost From WW1 at the RNOH’. Episode 5 focuses on the horrors of World War 1, with troops and refugees escaping war torn Northern France to England. For the first time, Mary Wardell and her team at Stanmore need to treat casualties of war

    Miss Mary Wardell founded a hospital on the RNOH Stanmore site back in the 1880’s, and is rumoured to appear as the ‘grey lady’ ghost from time to time.

    Funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, ‘Searching for the Grey Lady: A Ghost From WW1 at the RNOH’. Episode 4 features a 1905 account by Frank Ruck, aged just 15, of his experiences as an RNOH patient, and this is compared with an account of Keith Reeve's experiences as an RNOH patient around the end of the 1960's and into the early 1970's when he was a boy.

    Funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, ‘Searching for the Grey Lady: A Ghost From WW1 at the RNOH’, has Episode 3 describing Mary Wardell's Jubilee Picnic, hosted in the grounds of the Brockley Hill Convalescent Home for her scarlet fever convalescents, whilst Queen Victoria's grand celebration takes place just a few miles away in London.
