Haie auf Koks, Zone-2-Cardio im Dauerlauf, Liebespillen fürs Kollektiv, Wettstreit der Gehirnbotenstoffe, sprechende Kleider auf Körpersuche, surrende Spielautomaten, Herzrhythmusstörungen im Campingstuhl – und plötzlich die Frage: „WAS ist eigentlich ein Glimmer?“ Ein Trip zwischen Reizüberflutung und Erschöpfung und der Frage nach der "Sucht"


    In this episode, my guests are the team behind “WEIL ES KNALLT!” (Fiese Matenten Kollektiv) — a stage high that plunges into the modern culture of addiction. Sharks on coke, zone-2 cardio on an endless run, love pills for the collective, a showdown of neurotransmitters, talking clothes in search of a body, humming slot machines, heart arrhythmias in a camping chair — and suddenly the question: “WHAT actually is a ‘Glimmer’?” A trip between sensory overload and exhaustion.

    In this Episode I have Chaia as my guest. Chaia is a New York-based electronic music artist, DJ, and curator. Using samples from archival Yiddish recordings, Chaia creates electronic dance grooves that inspire new visions of Jewish diasporic identity. In this episode Chaia and I are talking about the parallels between "Oriental" Techno and "Kleztronica" and why we draw samples from our own heritage for Diasporic Techno.


    Chaia's music has been heard at festivals around the globe including NAMM, Jetlag, PopMontreal, Klezmore Vienna, and Shtetl Berlin. Her work has been supported by the Jewish Museum of Maryland, Jewish Museum Berlin, Combined Jewish Philanthropies, and the Worker’s Circle. In 2023, she was awarded the Studio 170 Award from the Goethe Institut for her work with visual artist Dan Tombs and engineer Russell Elevado. Her debut album, Borough Park, will be released June 1, 2025.

    In this episode I have Khayam Allami, wo is an Iraqi-British multi-instrumentalist, musician, composer, researcher, and founder of Nawa recording. He is an artistic researcher focused on development of contemporary and experimental practices based on the fundamentals of Arabic music with the focus on Tuning and Microtonality and has build two tools, Apotome and Leima to tackle cultural biases in the field of electronic music. Digital tools for music production are often perceived as the land of opportunity. Technology is shrouded in a narrative of democratization, progress, and artistic freedom. But there are several sides to that story. In this show we talk about this issue of the cultural asymmetry and the biases that are in the technologies we are using.
