In my monthly radio Show at www.res.radio I invite people from the viennese art and music scene, who I think challenge and deconstruct the status quo through their work, attitude and messages.


My Name is SEBA KAYAN, and I am Viennese DJ and artist.

My Music has a forensic, political and metaphorical approach. By digging into various music archives I collect lost pieces. In my musical spectrum, techno meets Anatolian sounds. A binary vision of an occidental vs. oriental world is not aimed to be created, but both cultures are tried to be embodied and become interwoven.

By seeking the past in archives, an imagination of tomorrow is getting shaped into a hybrid music. Acquiring ascriptions and deconstructing them in the musical process, as a collective improvisation process. This method of relating to the ancestors, to a collective memory, tells also an a-linear historical narrative.

Sharks on coke, zone-2 cardio on an endless run, love pills for the collective, a showdown of neurotransmitters, talking clothes in search of a body, humming slot machines, heart arrhythmias in a camping chair — and suddenly the question: “WHAT actually is a ‘Glimmer’?” A trip between sensory overload and exhaustion.

    In this Episode I have Chaia as my guest. Chaia is a New York-based electronic music artist, DJ, and curator. Using samples from archival Yiddish recordings, Chaia creates electronic dance grooves that inspire new visions of Jewish diasporic identity. In this episode Chaia and I are talking about the parallels between "Oriental" Techno and "Kleztronica" and why we draw samples from our own heritage for Diasporic Techno.


    Chaia's music has been heard at festivals around the globe including NAMM, Jetlag, PopMontreal, Klezmore Vienna, and Shtetl Berlin. Her work has been supported by the Jewish Museum of Maryland, Jewish Museum Berlin, Combined Jewish Philanthropies, and the Worker’s Circle. In 2023, she was awarded the Studio 170 Award from the Goethe Institut for her work with visual artist Dan Tombs and engineer Russell Elevado. Her debut album, Borough Park, will be released June 1, 2025.
