Native Land Pod

De: iHeartPodcasts and Reasoned Choice
  • Resumen

  • In the spirit of the last stanza of the Black National Anthem, we rise from the past, rooted deeply in the soil of ancestral struggles, to build a home, to claim our space. On Native Land Pod, Angela Rye, Tiffany Cross, and Andrew Gillum guide us through the political landscape, wielding insights and unapologetic analysis, unraveling the threads that connect Black Americans and marginalized communities to a place they courageously call home.

In each episode, Angela, Tiffany and Andrew embark on a journey of reflection, taking stock of the news of the week and the country's road to the polls.

Join us each week as we navigate the dance between past and present, weaving a narrative of hope, empowerment, and the unyielding strength that defines the journey to reclaim 'Native Land.' This isn't just news analysis; it's a movement, a conversation, and a testament to the power of those who dare to rebuild and redefine the meaning of home.

Hosts Angela Rye and Tiffany Cross look at how wealth corrupts (or not) members of the Black community.

Tiffany kicks off the episode with storytime and Angela brings up examples of how wealth can make a person out of touch (looking at you Gayle King).

  • Target Autopsy–Who Gets to Speak for the People?
    Apr 24 2025

This week hosts Tiffany Cross, Angela Rye, and Andrew Gillum are TOGETHER IN MIAMI!!

This week’s convo kicks off with a listener question: why not move to Africa? But for real, it’s cheaper to live there or open a business–plus there’s a tradition of Black Americans moving to Africa. However, we DON’T want to be moving like white colonizers.

The Trump administration has threatened to pull funding from Universities that teach subjects they don’t approve of, like Critical Race Theory and LGBTQ+ studies (so much for the party of free speech). How do we protect freedom of thought in our schools and institutions from a repressive authoritarian government?

Reverend Al Sharpton has had talks with Target’s CEO about DEI after a boycott of the company initiated by Pastor Jamal Bryant. Not everyone approves of the Reverend inserting himself into the situation, which begs the question: who gets to call themselves a leader of the Black community? Are we a leaderless movement??

A shout-out to the State of the People Tour which kicks off in Atlanta this week! A special thanks to Angela Rye for showing up to work at NLP today despite being DEEP in organizing mode. Find out more at https://stateoftheppl.com/

We are 558 days away from the midterm elections. Welcome home y’all!

Excellent commentary and format

I saw this podcast promoted on Joy Reid’s MSNBC show, The Reid Out. I immediately looked for it as soon as it dropped and I’m so glad that I did. I’m a huge fan of all 3 hosts and missed seeing them on news outlets. On each weekly podcast, they share powerful personal stories and offer timely and insightful commentary on key issues that are glossed over in mainstream news. I’ve felt informed, inspired, and energized after each episode. I highly recommend this podcast, it is definitely is worth a listen.
