  • M74: Danou P
    Oct 11 2023

The Monologues Podcast invites producers to mix an hour of their own productions. Coming soon: M75 - Keita Sano. Follow our record label on Bandcamp.

Rotterdam’s Danou P has been one of our favourite producers this year, releasing a slew of standout tracks both solo and alongside his studio partner, Chicago star Jamie 3:26. With a knack for exquisite melody and infectious grooves, his music is imbued with warmth and a discernible human touch. If he keeps going like this he’ll go far. This mix features some exclusive unreleased bizness, various jazzy workouts and his piano house stomper ‘The Good Old Days (Are Now)’—one of our favourites of 2023.

*How would you describe your sound?*

I was trained as a keyboardist and later started producing. Therefore I tend to play and record a lot myself instead of relying on samples. I love ‘90s Deep House and I’m a sucker for those old school sounds. I think you can describe my sound best as Deep House influenced by the golden era of the genre, but made by a musician/keyboardist with a modern touch. Having said that I love to go down different roads like more Disco, Italo and electro sounding stuff.

*What and who inspires you and influences your sound?*

I’ve always been inspired by old Funk, Boogie and Disco. There is something about the soul in it and the synthesizer sounds that will always resonate with me. As far as House goes I really like Kerri and ‘90s Deep House artists alike. Newer artists that I really admire and draw inspiration from are: Makez, Clive From Accounts, Felipe Gordon, Chaos In The CBD, COEO, I can keep going hahaha.

*Can you tell us a little about this mix and what it means to you?*

I had great fun doing this mix. I don’t usually play that many of my own tracks in a set and to my surprise it was actually really easy to get to 60 minutes. It was really cool to find out that some tracks fit really well together. This is something I’m definitely going to remember and use when I’m playing in the future! I tried to show very different sides of me as an artist in this mix. I played a couple of tracks from me and Jamie 3:26 including new remixes we’ve done, some older tracks that will be released in the near future and some original tracks that are out already. I also played an edit of ‘Street Player/ that I made recently. I just made that one for myself as a straight up edit and tool on the dancefloorl. I think a lot of people don’t get to that part of the song when they play it and they tend to play the most well known parts as somewhat of a crowdpleaser. But this last part is where it’s at for me! It’s a great groove and it just keeps building and going.

    Tracklist:

    1. Danou P & Kems Kriol - Jazz Dummy (3:26 Records) 2. Danou P - So Fruit (3:26 Records) 3. Jamie 3:26 & Danou P - Roy Layers (Shake Records) 4. Radio Slave - Wild Life (Jamie 3:26 & Danou P 'Discotek' Remix) (Rekids) 5. Danou P - Serenity Now (Unreleased) 6. Danou P - Tutti To The Frutti (Unreleased) 7. Danou P - The Good Old Days (Are Now) (GLXY Recs.) 8. Danou P - What We Talking' Bout (Unreleased) 9. Danou P - I Rumble U Crumble (Unreleased) 10. Jun 7 2023

Check out our latest label releases + free downloads on our Bandcamp page.

@alexvirgo has been cutting an ever-more-impressive figure of late, following releases on Nocturne and Lost Palms with some absolute stormers for Hot Haus Recs and True Romance. With an always colourful, melodic yet punchy sound that spans Eurodance vibes, splashes of techno and disco and melodic house, he's very much one to keep an eye on, and this mix of his own mostly unreleased productions is an absolute treat.

*How would you describe your sound?*

My sound has kind of evolved over the past couple of years, a byproduct of covid lockdowns I guess but fundamentally its the tougher side of house music with some elements of disco.

*What and who inspires you and influences your sound?*

I think in terms of eras its the '80s and early '90s. I take a lot of inspiration from House, disco and Italo disco particular the synths, drums and some times even the vocals.

*Can you tell us a little about this mix and what it means to you?*

This mix is predominantly made up of unreleased demos, I’ve had a lot of time in the studio recently sincing moving and its given me interesting results which im really happy with but also slightly nervous to share, but fuck it.

    Hope you enjoy x

  • M72: Tour-Maubourg
    Dec 30 2022

Check out our latest label releases + free downloads on our Bandcamp page.

One of our favourite producers of 2022 steps up with an exclusive 64 minutes of almost entirely unreleased material. Parisian producer @tour-maubourg has released an remarkable body of work in the past couple of years that connects the dots between his city's deep house and nu jazz heritage (e.g. St-Germain, Wuz, Cassius) and the contemporary jazz scene, where sumptuous 4/4 grooves and broken beats are laced with sweet vintage and analog synth solos and motifs. We predict the biggest things for him and are very happy to have him contribute to our long-running series.

*How would you describe your sound?*

I’m trying to produce modern music, mainly house, jazz, and dub related with an old school and warm feel.

*What and who inspires you and influences your sound?*

If I had to name three main influences it would be Ron Trent and Chez Damier, for their vision and reflection on pushing forward the sound.

Basic channel for their exploration of texture and ambience. Their sound has a unique feel.

Nicolas Jaar for his abilities to touch the masses with non pop music. His ability to make complexity simpler so that anyone can understand his music.

*Can you tell us a little about this mix and what it means to you?*

I was very happy that it was only made out of my production. As I have tons of music I stick that will probably not be released, it’s a good way to take it out of my hard drive and give it a second life 🙏

Tracklist: Wayward - Bright (Tour-Maubourg sunset dub mix) (Silver Bear Recordings) Tour-Maubourg - Désillusions successives (UNRELEASED) Tour-Maubourg - Give and take (emotions) (UNRELEASED) Tour-Maubourg - Dub CR-78 (UNRELEASED) Tour-Maubourg - Dub 002 (SHALL NOT FADE) Tour-Maubourg & Max Telaer - Nordic Trance (UNRELEASED) Tour-Maubourg & KX9000 - Already say (UNRELEASED) Tour-Maubourg & Bendrick - Mood to bump (UNRELEASED) George JJ Flores - Funk the future (Tour-Maubourg remix) Tour-Maubourg - Chicago memories (UNRELEASED) Tour-Maubourg - Everybody (UNRELEASED) Cosmonection - Odyssey (Tour-Maubourg remix) (PONT NEUF RECORDS) Tour-Maubourg - Abre los ojos (UNRELEASED) XXXX - XXXX (Tour-Maubourg & Saudade dub)

  • M71: Floyd Lavine
    May 5 2022

Check out our latest label releases + free downloads on our Bandcamp page.

One of Berlin’s hottest properties Floyd Lavine takes the helm, mixing nothing but his own productions covering all corners of his refreshingly original deep, tribal, soulful, Afro palette.   *How would you describe your sound?*   I would describe my sound as an interpretation of African electronics - my approach is to capture what I call an Afrofuturist vision pushing the boundaries with an aim to expand the pallet of African electronic .    *What and who inspires you and influences your sound?*    I’m an always on the lookout for new and inspiring ideas whether it’s music or just a great conversation. Life is inspiring enough on its own. My family, my friends and my fellow artists inspire me . Where I grew up and where I live currently brings a source of inspiration.   *Can you tell us a little about this mix and what it means to you?*   What I wanted to capture with this mix is a mood and journey that explores all parts of who I am as an artist and DJ. My sound is evolving but yet quite a unique take on electronic music. I have added original music from 8 years ago to modern stuff that I’ve done recently including from remixes to edits. I think the audience will have a sense of my style as producer and my vision as an Afro futurist.

  • M70: Roberto Rodriguez
    Mar 3 2022
Check out our latest label releases + free downloads on our Bandcamp page.   Finnish genius Roberto Rodriguez might be one of the most underrated producers in the deeper end of house music. His consistently excellent output for the likes of Freerange Records, Compost Records, Plastic City and Poetry In Motion Records is always fresh, invigorating stuff which combines deep textures with grooves that are so expertly sculpted they're nigh-on impossible to sit still to. We're chuffed to have him contribute to our series at last, and to discover some of his absolute gems we missed in years gone by.   *How would you describe your sound?*   If I were to analyze my own sound I’d say it’s a culmination of all the musical influences I’ve gathered throughout my close to 47 years of existence. My music is always some sort of weird combination of techno, house, jungle, jazz, soul and disco influences. Most often my tracks end up in the Deep House sections in stores. In my tracks there’s always a certain bit of Scandinavian melancholy or bittersweet sadness. Even in the most uplifting tracks and remixes I’ve done over the years. :D. I’m a super positive and upbeat person so I don’t know where that bit comes from. Perhaps it’s the 10 months of yearly darkness here in the north which generates the melancholy. I’m not super into trends and I always aim for a timeless quality rather than a quick fix. Firstly I aim to please my own ears and produce music that makes me feel something. If the music moves me then there’s a high probability that others will be moved by it as well.    *What and who inspires you and influences your sound?*    I listen to and get my inspiration from all music I hear. As much as I get inspired by the works of legends, i do get more inspired by new talent and new producers who break the rules and come up with something new and unique.   *Can you tell us a little about this mix and what it means to you?*   I was very pleased to be invited to the series and in taking this challenge of picking only my own productions for the mix. As emotional as it was to go through my tracks, It wasn't an easy task to narrow it down. In the end I decided to exclude all of my more disco Manolo stuff as well as all my other monikers and focus on my main RR output. The mix is sort of like Roberto Rodriguez in a nutshell. It features my house tracks that mean the most to me at this moment in time. Hope you’ll like the listening experience.

    Tracklist:

    01. Roberto Rodriguez - Sensible Jungle Tune 02. Roberto Rodriguez - Thought Experiment 03. Roberto Rodriguez - Thinking Of You 04. Roberto Rodriguez - Mother 05. Roberto Rodriguez - Pride 06. Lectroluv - Dream Drums (Roberto Rodriguez Remix) 11. Roberto Rodriguez - Lies feat. Max C 12. Roberto Rodriguez - Survive 13. Roberto Rodriguez - Besomebody

Swedish globetrotter Lukas Lyrestam has built up a steady catalogue of warm house jams infused with melodic '80s influences in recent years, through his own Clouded House imprint through to labels like Skint and Hardrock Striker's Skylax Records. With a tasty vocal in him too and a day job in sound design, he's quite the package and cooks up a lovely hour of his own productions for us that's constantly colourful and groove-laden.

“How would you describe your sound?”

OG house and classic 80s heaters with a touch of Scandi flair! Sultry vocals by yours truly.

"What and who inspires you and influences your sound?”

Literally everything in the electronic spectrum tends to seep into my subconscious and makes its way into the music I make. Off the top of my head some favourites (and bench-marks of quality) are:

Mood II Swing Johnny Jewel Joy Orbison Prince K-Hand (RIP
