The Monologues Podcast invites producers to mix an hour of their own productions. Coming soon: M75 - Keita Sano. Follow our record label on Bandcamp.

Rotterdam’s Danou P has been one of our favourite producers this year, releasing a slew of standout tracks both solo and alongside his studio partner, Chicago star Jamie 3:26. With a knack for exquisite melody and infectious grooves, his music is imbued with warmth and a discernible human touch. If he keeps going like this he’ll go far. This mix features some exclusive unreleased bizness, various jazzy workouts and his piano house stomper ‘The Good Old Days (Are Now)’—one of our favourites of 2023.

*How would you describe your sound?*

I was trained as a keyboardist and later started producing. Therefore I tend to play and record a lot myself instead of relying on samples. I love ‘90s Deep House and I’m a sucker for those old school sounds. I think you can describe my sound best as Deep House influenced by the golden era of the genre, but made by a musician/keyboardist with a modern touch. Having said that I love to go down different roads like more Disco, Italo and electro sounding stuff.

*What and who inspires you and influences your sound?*

I’ve always been inspired by old Funk, Boogie and Disco. There is something about the soul in it and the synthesizer sounds that will always resonate with me. As far as House goes I really like Kerri and ‘90s Deep House artists alike. Newer artists that I really admire and draw inspiration from are: Makez, Clive From Accounts, Felipe Gordon, Chaos In The CBD, COEO, I can keep going hahaha.

*Can you tell us a little about this mix and what it means to you?*

I had great fun doing this mix. I don’t usually play that many of my own tracks in a set and to my surprise it was actually really easy to get to 60 minutes. It was really cool to find out that some tracks fit really well together. This is something I’m definitely going to remember and use when I’m playing in the future! I tried to show very different sides of me as an artist in this mix. I played a couple of tracks from me and Jamie 3:26 including new remixes we’ve done, some older tracks that will be released in the near future and some original tracks that are out already. I also played an edit of ‘Street Player/ that I made recently. I just made that one for myself as a straight up edit and tool on the dancefloorl. I think a lot of people don’t get to that part of the song when they play it and they tend to play the most well known parts as somewhat of a crowdpleaser. But this last part is where it’s at for me! It’s a great groove and it just keeps building and going.

@alexvirgo has been cutting an ever-more-impressive figure of late, following releases on Nocturne and Lost Palms with some absolute stormers for Hot Haus Recs and True Romance. With an always colourful, melodic yet punchy sound that spans Eurodance vibes, splashes of techno and disco and melodic house, he's very much one to keep an eye on, and this mix of his own mostly unreleased productions is an absolute treat.

*How would you describe your sound?*

My sound has kind of evolved over the past couple of years, a byproduct of covid lockdowns I guess but fundamentally its the tougher side of house music with some elements of disco.

*What and who inspires you and influences your sound?*

I think in terms of eras its the '80s and early '90s. I take a lot of inspiration from House, disco and Italo disco particular the synths, drums and some times even the vocals.

*Can you tell us a little about this mix and what it means to you?*

This mix is predominantly made up of unreleased demos, I’ve had a lot of time in the studio recently sincing moving and its given me interesting results which im really happy with but also slightly nervous to share, but fuck it.

    Hope you enjoy x
