  • Reflections on Unschooling Our Neurodivergent Kids
    Sep 16 2025

As we kick off the new school year, I’ve been thinking back on our journey so far with unschooling, aka self-directed education, aka child-led learning. Call it what you want, but at its core, it’s a style that gives kids a lot of say in what they’re learning and how they’re learning it.

We’re about three and a half years in now, and in this episode, I reflect on what this path has looked like for our family — from when we first began, when my son was sick and then newly diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, through seasons of PDA autistic burnout, and to now, where my kids are slowly moving out of burnout and beginning to engage more with the world again.

It hasn’t been all smooth sailing (at all!) There have been plenty of messy, hard moments. AND I’m deeply grateful for the many different education options out there that have helped my kids learn in ways that work for them.

    In this episode, I share:

    • What unschooling has looked like for us after 3+ years
    • How my kids have learned through deep interests like Minecraft and LEGO
    • Exploring academic subjects in an unschool-y way (on their timeline, at their pace)
    • What it’s been like to try in-person schooling again with lots of accommodations

If you’re curious about unschooling, exploring alternative schooling options for your neurodivergent kiddo, or if you’re like I was a few years ago — trying to help a child who struggled in both public school and traditional homeschooling — this one’s for you.

    xx, Megan

  • Taking Care of My Mind With Therapy and Coaching
    Aug 26 2025

I was talking with someone the other day and realized—not everyone sees therapy, coaching, and “brain work” the way I do. For me, it’s like brushing my teeth or moving my body. We all know working out is good for our bodies, and I think of coaching, therapy, and other mind tools as ways to work out my mind.

Over the past few years, I’ve been taking care of my brain with regular therapy, coaching, and tools like meditation. These practices have helped me reframe anxious thoughts, regulate my emotions as a parent, and navigate chronic pain.

In this episode, I share my experiences with therapy and coaching, including:

    • The difference between therapy and coaching (and why I use both)
    • My first experience with EMDR for chronic pain
    • How “working out my mind” has shifted parenting and daily life
    • Why emotional regulation sets the tone for my whole household
    • How I’ve found therapists and coaches that are the right fit

If you’ve been curious about therapy, coaching, EMDR, or meditation—and want the inside scoop from someone who’s tried a lot of it 😉—this one’s for you.

  • Sustainable Fitness for Chronic Illness, Hormones, and Real Life with Blake Hill
    Aug 12 2025

When “beginner” workouts left me in days-long flares, I knew I needed a different approach.

I’d already tried four different fitness plans and was feeling pretty discouraged. I wasn’t losing weight, and the workouts were so hard on my body that, as someone with multiple chronic health conditions and chronic pain, I’d be wiped out for days afterward.

And then there’s life. Between work and caring for my two disabled kids, I couldn’t just head to the gym whenever I wanted. I needed something that actually fit my life.

I remember telling a friend that all I wanted was someone who could take my constraints into account and help me get in shape despite them.

    Enter Coach Blake.

He built a plan that worked with my time, my circumstances, and my body. It was realistic, doable, sustainable—and effective.

In this episode, I sit down with my friend and fitness coach, Blake Hill, to talk about his journey from mechanical engineer to passionate fitness coach who helps women reach their goals while navigating hormonal changes, chronic illness, and the chaos of life.

    We cover:

    • How to build strength for life—even with chronic illness, hormone changes, or limited time.
    • Practical ways to avoid injury and burnout with a plan you can actually stick to.
    • How to use motivation and discipline to show up on low-energy days.
    • The impact of perimenopause and menopause on fitness (and why no one talks about it).
    • Mindset shifts that help you overcome common fitness roadblocks.

Blake’s approach helped me fit fitness into my life in a way that actually worked for me. He met me exactly where I was—with compassion and science—to help me reach my goals sustainably. I learned that I can show up for myself imperfectly and still make progress. It’s not all or nothing and that’s a beautiful act of self care.

    xx, Megan

  • Seasons of Being a Daughter
    Aug 5 2025

    Does your family have lore?

You know—those stories that get told over and over again?

Well, imagine my surprise when one of those familiar childhood stories—one I’ve heard a million times—suddenly made me feel all triggered and uncomfortable. I felt myself getting defensive, my body heating up, and I quickly changed the subject so I could get back to enjoying game night.

But I’ve been thinking about it ever since.

Over the years, I’ve learned that when something triggers me, it’s often a good idea to pay attention. Sometimes, it means there’s something deeper that’s ready to heal.

So I started unpacking it. And I think I’ve figured out why that retelling hit differently this time.

In this episode, I talk about parent-child relationships, the seasons of being a daughter, and how my view of my parents and my childhood has evolved over time.

    Maybe you can relate…

    xx,

    Megan
