-What are the five types of generations?
    1. Greatest Generation- born 1901 to 1925.
    2. Silent Generation- born 1926 to 1944.
    3. Baby Boomers—born 1945 to 1964.
    4. Generation X—born 1965 to 1979.
    5. Generation Y—born 1980 to 1994.
    6. Generation Z—born 1995 to 2010.
    7. Generation Alpha- born 2011 to 2021.

-What are some of the factors that influence a generation?
    1. Culture –
What are the cultural outputs of an era? Who were the greatest music artists, the best actors / actresses, the best movies, the fashion icons.? All these aspects tell us a lot about what a generation stands for; what they cared about, and how they wanted to be seen.
    2. Social–
What are the social structures, especially the family and parenting styles, both have a huge effect on who we are. In the United States, family structures have evolved throughout the years: from the prevalent nuclear family that most Baby Boomers are familiar with to today’s multi family structures that include nuclear, blended, multi-generational, and single parent households.
    3. Economy –
Economic booms and busts always had a huge influence on attitudes, beliefs and behaviors of a generation.
    4. Political –
The political context is also a significant factor especially if it includes extreme events like wars or wild card events like terrorist attacks. Think Vietnam war for Baby Boomers, or September 11th for the Millennials. These events are not only memorable but also play a major role in how a generation views the government and its actions. Trust is another dimension we carefully consider in generational research.
    5. Technology –
Constantly evolving, technology always puts its mark on a generation. It influences every aspect of our lives including communication, mobility, learning, and so on… each generation has a few major technologies that shape their behaviors and lifestyle.

MY NEW NORM Podcast- S5 E12
    Guest: Austin Scheiwe
    Episode: Words With Aus
    Host: Barry Scott Young

    Show Notes-

In this this episode, you'll meet, Austin Scheiwe. Austin has lived overseas in various countries for almost 10 years of his life. He’s studied more than 12 languages, in depth, and taught English as a second language for more than 20 years, in several different contexts.

Austin is often asked what it takes to learn a new language and what is the best approach. Listen today to hear the answers and learn some surprising tips and available resources for anyone at any age that will enhance your language journey.

Learning a new language offers numerous benefits, from personal growth and enhanced communication to career advancement and improved cognitive function. It can also broaden one's cultural understanding and make travel experiences more enriching.

Here's a more detailed look at the reasons to learn a new language:
    1. Enhanced Communication and Social Connections:
Language is fundamental to communication, and learning a new language allows you to connect with a wider range of people, both locally and globally.
It opens doors to forming deeper connections and building relationships with individuals who speak that language.

    2. Career Opportunities and Salary:
In today's globalized world, language skills are highly sought after in various industries.
Being fluent in a second language can increase your job prospects and potentially lead to higher salaries.
For example, many jobs in government, business, and international organizations require language proficiency.

    3. Cognitive Benefits:
Learning a new language can improve cognitive abilities, such as memory, attention span, and multitasking.
Studies have shown that bilingual individuals may be better at switching between tasks and managing multiple projects.

    4. Cultural Understanding and Enrichment:
Learning a language provides insights into the culture, traditions, and perspectives of the language's speakers. It can enhance your appreciation for diverse cultures and broaden your worldview.

    5. Travel and Exploration:
Being able to communicate in a foreign language can make travel experiences more rewarding and immersive.
You can connect with locals, navigate unfamiliar situations with greater ease, and truly experience the culture of a place.

    6. Personal Growth and Confidence:
Learning a new language can be a challenging but rewarding journey that boosts your confidence and sense of accomplishment.
It can also expand your perspective and make you more open to new experiences.

    7. Mental Health Benefits:
Learning a new language can stimulate the brain and help maintain cognitive function, potentially delaying the onset of age-related mental decline.
It can also be a source of mental stimulation and enjoyment.

People who speak more than one language automatically gain the capacity to connect with more people. Creating social relationships leads to building closer business and community connections with each other.

    Guest: Steve Kramer
    Episode: Against All Odds
    Host: Barry Scott Young

    Show Notes:
In this episode, you'll hear from Steve Kramer. Steve is a walking miracle. He was born two-and-a half months premature with Cerebral Palsy. The doctors did not have much hope for him…but God had other plans. Steve has seen God’s faithfulness as he has been a radio disc jockey, TV news anchor/reporter, pastor, missionary and motivational speaker. He feels his most important role in life is to be a godly husband and father to his kids.

Steve and Julie met while Steve was speaking at a church in Oregon and they got married in 2005. Julie has a background in ministry and missions as well. She served at a women’s shelter and orphanage in Mexico before meeting Steve.

Steve and his family are headed back to the The Netherlands sometime this year as full time missionaries!

-Fixed Mindset vs Growth Mindset Notes-
    Growth Mindset:
Those who have a growth mindset believe that their abilities can be developed through hard work and dedication, which can lead to increased motivation and a willingness to take on new challenges.

These are the key elements of a growth mindset:
    1. Intelligence can be developed. A fixed mindset might say intelligence is static.
    2. Embrace challenges. ...
    3. Persist in the face of setbacks. ...
    4. See effort as a path to mastery. ...
    5. Learn from criticism. ...
5 ½. Find inspiration in the success of others.

    Fixed Mindset:
Those with a fixed mindset tend to view their abilities as being set in stone, which can lead to a fear of failure or a reluctance to take on challenges.
People with a fixed mindset believe individual traits cannot change, no matter how much effort you put in, and are more likely to:
    1. Believe intelligence and talent are static.
    2. Avoid challenges to avoid failure.
    3. Ignore feedback from others.
    4. Feel threatened by the success of others.
    5. Hide flaws so as not to be judged by others.
