  • 🎙️ Episode Description 6: “The Cost of Learning German”
    Nov 29 2025

What does it really cost to learn German?

Spoiler: It’s more than just money.

In this episode, I take you behind the scenes of my own language journey — from fumbling through German classes as a total beginner to becoming a certified C2 speaker, integration teacher, and language assessor.

I share the real price I paid — in euros, yes — but also in time, energy, mistakes, and mindset shifts. Back then, one module cost €280… and I had to take six of them to reach B1. That’s nearly €1,500. Today? Prices have nearly doubled.

But here’s the twist: the biggest investment wasn’t financial. It was the emotional investment — pushing through frustration, homesickness, and the fear of looking or sounding “dumb.” It was about showing up for myself. Again and again.

    You'll also hear about:

    • Why I failed at learning Japanese and French before German finally “clicked”
    • The turning point that changed everything for me
    • How to reframe language costs as self-investment
    • A surprising tax tip that could save you money on German courses if you're learning for work!

If you’ve ever wondered whether the cost is worth it — this episode is your reminder that fluency is priceless… and absolutely possible.

  • Episode 3: What B1 Really Means (From a Language Assessor’s Perspective)
    Jul 17 2025

In this episode, I take you behind the scenes of language assessment. As a certified language assessor, I’ll show you what we actually look for when we decide whether someone is truly at B1 level — and here’s a reality check: it’s not just about grammar and vocabulary.

⚠️ Attention: A part of this episode is in German. 🇩🇪

Here's what we look for at B1:
✔️ Can you speak fluently in everyday situations without long pauses?
✔️ Can you respond to questions and keep a conversation going?
✔️ Can you talk about familiar topics like work, hobbies, or your weekend without building the sentence in your head first?
✔️ Can you give your opinion and simple reasons?
✔️ Can you handle typical life tasks like phone calls, appointments, or customer conversations?

💬 B1 means you can manage life in German — not perfectly, but confidently enough to get through most real-life conversations.

    In this episode, you’ll learn:
✅ The key B1 indicators we look for as language assessors
✅ Everyday speaking tasks that show whether you’re really B1
✅ Common struggles B1 speakers still face — like reacting quickly or finding the right words under pressure
✅ Simple, practical speaking activities you can use every day to keep improving

💥 These small daily moments are what push you to the next level.

  • Episode 2: "My Journey from Level Zero to Fluent" 😎
    Jul 4 2025

In this special episode of Let’s Talk German, I’m sharing my personal story — the story of how I went from never even thinking about learning German to becoming a German teacher and certified language assessor.

Back in the Philippines, German wasn’t part of my life. I loved languages, but I dreamed of French or Spanish, not German. Everything changed when I fell in love — not just with my now-husband, but with his family, especially his grandmother, Oma Elfriede. She spoke almost no English, but somehow, over coffee and a lot of hand gestures, we connected. That day, I silently promised myself: one day, I will speak German. I wanted to hear her story — in her language.

When my husband later asked me to move to Germany, I thought, "Why not? All I have to do is learn German. How hard can it be?" Well, it was hard. The grammar confused me, the words felt endless, and I doubted myself constantly. I wanted to give up more times than I can count.

But something beautiful happened. Step by step, I kept going — through every awkward conversation, every small success. I fell in love with the process. I learned to embrace the mistakes, the mess, and the slow growth. Learning German changed me. It made me more patient, more empathetic, and more alive.

Fluency, I realized, isn’t just passing the C2 exam — though yes, I did that. Fluency means being able to argue with my husband in German, to express myself fully to my mother-in-law, to comfort my friends, to joke, to handle real-life situations — and to feel like me in another language.

Then life surprised me again. Someone asked me if I could imagine teaching German. Me? A German teacher? I said yes. And that one yes opened a door I never even dared to knock on.

That’s how this podcast was born. This is where I get to share the real story — the doubts, the stumbles, the small wins that slowly build something beautiful.

If you’re an expat, a migrant, a partner, or a traveler trying to find your place in the German-speaking world — you’re not alone. You are welcome here.

💬 What does fluency mean to you?
Is it ordering coffee without fear? Expressing your feelings? Telling your story in German? I’d love to hear from you.
