🎙️ Learn Irish with TYM – The Podchraoladh Podcast

Welcome to the Learn Irish with TYM Podcast, the perfect companion to our free Irish language-learning app "TYM Learn Irish", available on iOS and Android.

Each week, the podcast delivers engaging Irish-language content through two unique formats designed to help the learner build fluency, comprehension, and confidence:

📰 Reaction Media – These weekly articles are written in a formal, newsreader style, focusing on recent real-world events. On the app, each article includes:

    • Irish text suitable for A2-level learners
    • Irish audio read by Orla AI at 70% speed for clear and accessible pronunciation
    • Sentence-by-sentence English translations
    • Syntax breakdowns filled with practical, everyday phrases

🎧 Podchraoladh (Podcast) – This podcast revisits the previous week’s Reaction Media topics, presented in an informal, conversational tone. It’s less like a newsreader and more like a podcaster – incorporating emotion, opinion, and personality.

Many of the same words and phrases are repeated from the articles, allowing the learner to reinforce vocabulary and better grasp meaning through repetition in a different context.

Each Podchraoladh episode is broken down into individual article segments and follows the same structure as the Reaction Media. These segments are released throughout the week – two per day – giving the learner time to absorb and engage with each one.

This dual approach—formal reading followed by informal discussion—supports the learner in both studying the language and engaging with it naturally.

🔁 This week’s podcast explores the following articles from last week’s Reaction Media:

    Taraife Trump.

    An Phluais (The Cave)

    Disclaimer:

This is our first venture into a podcast-style format, designed specifically to support Irish language learners. Our primary goal is to maintain high grammatical accuracy, as is the standard for all content on TYM Learn Irish. Therefore, unlike typical free-flowing podcasts, our text and audio were carefully prepared in advance to ensure that the grammar is 99% correct. Additionally, we intentionally deliver the speech at a slower pace to make it easier for learners to follow.

For many learners, listening to Irish language podcasts with fluent or native speakers can be challenging due to the fast-paced delivery. In our podcasts, however, we prioritize clarity by proofreading and rehearsing the text before recording, ensuring that it’s both accurate and accessible for learners at different levels.

This project also allowed us to experiment with two speakers: one with strong Irish language skills and the other at an earlier stage in their learning journey. We aimed to create a conversational dynamic that feels natural and engaging. While some of the audio quality didn’t turn out as perfectly as we hoped, this is part of our own learning process in podcast production.

Despite these minor issues, each of the three podcast episodes offers a wealth of educational content. We encourage you to listen actively, take notes on new and familiar words, and capture as many useful phrases as possible. Enjoy, engage, and make the most of these learning opportunities!
