In today’s market, it feels like everything is happening at once. Geopolitical tension. Questions around private credit. Volatility in energy markets. Rising interest rates. Gold and silver surging.
And yet… markets continue to hold up.

In this episode of In The Harbor, we sit down with Rich Consul of Bankers Edge to break down what he calls the “Polycrisis” — a world where multiple macro forces are colliding at the same time.

More importantly, we explore why markets aren’t reacting the way many would expect. Rich shares his framework for cutting through the noise, including his weekly exercise — “Rich’s Weekend Five” — where he translates the week’s headlines into what actually matters for five key markets: the dollar, energy, stocks, yields, and gold.

    We also discuss:
    • Why this environment is both risk-off and inflationary
    • Why traditional market relationships may be breaking down
    • The role of the consumer balance sheet and liquidity
    • Rotation from large caps into small and mid caps
    • What’s real vs overblown in private credit
    • Why energy may be the most important variable

This episode is built for advisors and investors trying to make sense of a complex and noisy macro environment — and focus on what actually matters.

What does it take to operate in some of the most remote places on earth — and build a premium brand around exploration?

In this episode of In The Harbor, we sit down with Brent Centlivre of Lindblad Expeditions to explore the evolution of expedition travel and the business behind it.

Brent is a senior leader at Lindblad Expeditions bringing deep expertise in the business of experiential travel — from understanding evolving consumer demand to navigating capital intensity, fleet management, and global operations in a highly specialized segment of the travel industry. His perspective sits at the intersection of adventure, hospitality, logistics, and long-term brand building.

Lindblad, a pioneer in expedition travel known for immersive, science-driven voyages to some of the most remote and extraordinary places on earth, partners with National Geographic to deliver exploration experiences that blend adventure, conservation, photography, and education — from Antarctica and the Galápagos to Alaska and the Arctic.

    We discuss:
•The rise of experiential luxury and why travelers are prioritizing meaning over material
•How Lindblad’s partnership with National Geographic shapes brand, credibility, and demand
•Fleet economics, capital allocation, and the operational complexity of expedition cruising
•The surprising demographics driving growth in adventure travel
•Sustainability, conservation, and aligning mission with margin
•How expedition travel behaves through economic cycles

For financial advisors and business owners, this conversation touches on more than just travel. It’s about brand durability, capital intensity, consumer psychology, and the power of differentiated experiences.

Because at the end of the day, wealth isn’t just about accumulation — it’s about access and there’s more to life than markets.

  • #22 Lacey Shrum
    Feb 13 2026

    Send us Fan Mail

In this episode of In The Harbor, Jason Johns and Scott Lindsay sit down with Lacey Shrum — attorney, former RIA CCO, and founder of SmartKX — to unpack one of the most overlooked drivers of RIA enterprise value:

    Billing. Revenue. Fee transparency.

Most firms treat fee billing like “something that happens in the back room,” powered by Excel, muscle memory, and a lot of exceptions. Lacey argues that’s not just inefficient — it can be a quiet drag on revenue, client experience, compliance confidence, and valuation.

    We get into:

    • Why quarterly-in-advance billing creates hidden friction (especially around cash flows and volatility)
    • The real-world issue of “snapshot billing” vs. what actually happened across the quarter
    • Why billing methods can materially impact revenue (and what that means in a valuation / M&A environment)
    • How firms can use better billing infrastructure to reduce client fee disputes and improve advisor recruiting
    • The “three-part billing loop” Lacey focuses on: documentation → calculation → analysis
    • What implementation looks like across different firm sizes (from sub-$1B to multi-custodian enterprise)

And because it’s In The Harbor, we close with some rapid-fire fun — Montana ranch life vs. RIA billing, NFL chaos, Chiefs vs. Lions diplomacy, and why certain rivalries feel a little… one-sided.

If you’re an RIA operator, CFO, COO, CCO, or anyone who cares about margin, scalability, and enterprise value, this episode will make you look at fee billing very differently.

  • #20 Josh Pantony
    Jan 30 2026

    Send us Fan Mail

In this episode of In the Harbor, we sit down with Josh Pantony, Founder and CEO of Boosted.ai, to explore how AI is reshaping not just investment research—but the business of advice itself.

Josh Pantony is the Founder and CEO of Boosted.ai, an AI-powered investment research platform built specifically for professional investors and financial advisors. With a background spanning capital markets, data science, and applied machine learning, Josh has spent his career focused on one core problem: helping advisors and investors make better decisions faster—without sacrificing rigor, transparency, or trust.

Under Josh’s leadership, Boosted.ai has developed Alfa, a conversational and agentic AI platform that integrates directly into real-world investment workflows. Beyond portfolio construction and macro analysis, Josh is especially focused on how AI can help advisors scale their impact—from generating differentiated insights to improving how they identify, engage, and communicate with prospective clients.

Josh is a frequent speaker on the future of AI in wealth management, with a practical, advisor-first perspective on using technology as a force multiplier—not a replacement—for human judgment and relationship-driven advice.

We start with Josh’s career arc and the founding of Boosted.ai, then unpack what agentic AI really means versus traditional large language models. From there, the conversation expands into how advisors are using AI to move faster and smarter across their workflows—from macro research and portfolio construction to prospecting and client acquisition.

Josh explains how AI can help advisors surface timely, relevant insights that spark better conversations with prospects, personalize outreach at scale, and spend less time searching for information—and more time building trust. We also dive into Boosted’s work around voice and conversational interfaces, why spoken interaction is a natural evolution for research and prospecting, and how advisors can stay compliant while embracing these tools.

We close with a forward-looking discussion on what the advisor of the future looks like—and why AI may ultimately make the human side of advice more valuable, not less.

    Key themes include:

    • Agentic AI vs. traditional LLMs
    • AI as a force multiplier for advisor prospecting
    • Turning research insights into client conversations
    • Voice-driven workflows and efficiency gains
    • Risk, compliance, and trust in AI-enabled advice
    • The evolving role of the modern advisor
