We often think of “good” kids as those who listen and follow rules, but what if constant compliance comes with a long-term cost? Dr. Becky talks with Dr. Sunita Sah, author of Defy: The Power of No in a World that Demands Yes, about rethinking defiance, the downsides of over-compliance, and helping kids balance cooperation with self-respect.

  • Let’s Talk About Sex
    Oct 28 2025

There’s no “right” time for the sex talk. Just ask Dr. Becky - who ended up explaining condoms to her 5-year-old on a crowded New York City subway. Of course, it’s normal for these conversions to feel awkward - especially if you didn’t have them growing up. In today’s episode, learn how to turn tricky talks into meaningful moments of connection with scripts and strategies for sharing accurate, inclusive, and age-appropriate information about bodies, porn, sex, and more.

Such a helpful podcast... every week I look forward to the new episode! Helpful strategies and advice. Life changing.

Love Dr Becky!

This was an enlightening episode, fascinating, really! We all do have different voices and I loved how we can ask our calm self to stay. Things go better when that self stays. When we are sick or tired and do or say things we regret it is very important to repair! Go back apologize and tell them how you wished you would have handled it. I also loved how you praised the mom that was just present with her child.

Wow! The Voices in our Head!

I am a parent coach myself and the father of four year old twin boys. I have read lots of books about parenting young children and have appreciated the value of many parenting “experts.” Listening (binging) to Dr.Becky over the last month has solidified many of my ideas and really helped me with lots of practical ideas to support my children. She covers it all. Nervous system regulation, boundaries, emotional validation and does this while affirming the emotional toll that comes with being a parent. I bow to Dr. Becky’s insight and creative, honest exploration of her own parenting process. I listened to these podcasts while riding my bike to work and there were many times I was pumping my fists in the air knowing that other parents are learning these skills and helping to create a healthier future for their children. Thank you Dr. Becky.

The best parenting advice available.

“Parenting is so easy!” said no one ever... and PS, there is no handbook... until now. Dr. Becky is my go to source for parenting techniques and I swear by her golden nuggets of practical and realistic advice. I even catch my own “self talk” shifting from a place of shame and blame to curiosity and nurturing. She is a total family game changer. I am a huge HUGE fan and highly recommend this podcast, her IG, workshop and anything else! Thank you for including us in your journey, Dr. Becky! You are such an inspiration!

Hands down, Dr. Becky is EVERYTHING!

As an early intervention therapist and a mother I find this podcast so helpful. Easy to follow- practical ways of reaching our children in an emotionally healthy way.

So helpful!

As a mom of two, degree in ECE, and over 10 years of working with young children this podcast is not something I’m impressed with. I listened to two of them. I will be looking for a better approach to positive reinforcement and natural consequences.

Not impressed.
