  • LandonTalks with The Old Mill
    Dec 4 2025

Today we've got a real treat for you. I sat down with Landon Bryant — the voice, the storyteller, and the heart behind LandonSpeaks, and his charming wife Kate. You know him for his wit, his Southern charm, and the way he puts into words what so many of us in the South feel in our bones. Together, they host a podcast of their own called Landon Talks with Kate.

We're talking all things home, place, creativity, and the stories that shape who we are. So settle in, pour yourself a glass of sweet tea, and join us for a conversation that feels like front-porch talk with an old friend.

You can find Landon as LandonTalks , and Kate as TheCoolestKate on Instagram.

Foothills Of The Smokies Podcast is brought to you today by The Old Mill. Our historic gristmill, in continual operation since 1830, is the cornerstone of our spot right here in Pigeon Forge, TN, in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains. We've been welcoming families for decades, and now we invite you to join us as we tell the stories of not only the people and what they do here at The Old Mill, but of folks from all across our beautiful region here in the South. I'm your host, Jimmy Proffitt, and this is Foothills Of The Smokies.

  • What does Chuck Childers, our Head Miller, put in his cornbread?
    Oct 16 2025

We talked with Chuck Childers, Head Miller of The Old Mill for more than 17 years now. We recorded this last year in anticipation of starting our podcast, so you'll hear him refer to his 15 years with the mill.

In our conversation, Chuck gives us the ins and outs of running a nearly 200-year-old grist mill, a responsibility he takes seriously, but his laugh often tells you he's rarely a serious guy. As a former Marine, he still keeps a regimen to each day, starting well before sunup, with a plan to get the job done. But, as he explains, there is rarely a typical day, so plans have to change quickly sometimes.

And, yes, we discuss the sugar in his cornbread! (Well, and mine, but there's a reason for it!!)
