Folks on Film is a chat show about parenting and movies.

Every episode, Sam and another dad watch a movie with a dad in it. Then, they come together and use the film's depiction of fatherhood as a way to talk about their own dadding experiences and big-boy feelings.

This show is produced for 94.9 MainFM on Djarra country, Castlemaine, Victoria.

In the future, the show will include mums. This podcast is playing catch-up to the radio broadcasts, and mums come into it at after about 20 episodes.

Be excellent to each other.

  • The Godfather (with Ross Knight - Cosmic Psychos)
    Apr 8 2026

This was first broadcast November 9th 2025, on 94.9 MainFM in Castlemaine, Victoria.

In this episode of the show, Sam sits down with Ross (farmer, bassist and lead singer for Cosmic Psychos), about what we can learn about dadding and parenting from the 1972 classic, The Godfather. Using the film's depiction of fathering and family as their jumping-off point, the dads chat about work-life balance, the innate drive to protect our kids, and what it means to be a man.

Don't come expecting definitive answers or paths to parenting greatness. This is just two ordinary, imperfect dads getting real and having a chat.

    It's a chat you can't refuse.

  • Daddy Day Care (with Bryn)
    Apr 4 2026

Folks on Film is a chat show about parenting and movies. Every episode our hosts, Sam and Sarah, watch a movie with a dad or a mum in it, and then come together with another parent to talk about the film, its depiction of parenthood, and how that relates to their own experience.

For this episode of the show, first broadcast October 19th, 2025, Sam was joined in the studio by public servant and community footy umpire, Bryn. They've watched Daddy Day Care (so you don't have to) and use it to have a chat about choosing schools for our kids, managing finances and stress, and society's sexism that views men as incapable parents.

Come for the chat, stay for the vibe.

  • Shirley Valentine (with Kaye)
    Apr 1 2026

This was first broadcast October 12th 2025, on 94.9 MainFM in Castlemaine, Victoria.

In this episode of the show, Sarah sits down with Kaye (retired nurse, florist and taxi driver, plus - and most importantly - mum to Sarah and five others, as well as grandmum to 9 squirts!), about what we can learn about mumming and parenting from the 1989 comedy, Shirley Valentine. Using the film's depiction of mothering and family as their jumping-off point, the mums chat about challenges of supporting your kids with something you don’t agree on, navigating the tough stuff and being true to yourself as a mother.

Don't come expecting definitive answers or paths to parenting greatness. This is just two ordinary, imperfect mums getting real and having a chat.
