  • The Maori's Wool - 1
    May 31 2025

Reading Andrew Barton "Banjo" Paterson, CBE, was an Australian bush poet, journalist, and author, widely regarded as one of the country’s greatest bush poets. “The Maori’s Wool” was published in the Star (Christchurch) newspaper on February 23, 1901. "The Maori's Wool" tells of Māori chief Rerenga’s journey to Wellington to sell his tribe’s wool. He faces a deceptive offer from a bank manager—just 18 pence a pound. Rerenga, no man’s fool, spots an opportunity and seizes it without delay. Through satire and humor, the poem explores cultural misunderstandings and the exploitation of the Māori by the bank. __ © The recording may not be altered or used for commercial gain without the express written permission of Floydius-Maximus Jeremy Thomas Jefferson.
