  • Andreas Almgren: Breaking European Records & Medalling on the World Stage
    Mar 18 2026

We’re joined by one of the most versatile and dominant distance runners in the world right now — Sweden’s Andreas Almgren.

A two-time European record holder (5000m – 12:44, Half Marathon – 58:41), former European 10km record holder (26:45 x2), 10-time national champion, and World Championship bronze medallist over 10,000m — Almgren has quietly built one of the most impressive CVs in global distance running.

But what makes this episode so fascinating is how he’s done it.

In this conversation, we go deep into:

    • Transitioning from 1:45 800m runner → world-class 5k / 10k / half marathon athlete

    • Breaking multiple European records across distances in a single season

    • Winning a World Championship medal in Tokyo and handling the pressure on the biggest stage

    • Training largely solo — and what that looks like day-to-day physically and mentally

    • How he periodises training across events from 3k → half marathon

    • Key sessions, lactate control, and what underpins his consistency

We also explore the Swedish philosophy behind it all — from Fika and Lagom to a lifestyle built around balance, longevity, and performance.

    Plus:

    • Shoe rotation (and any AlphaFly 4 insight 👀)

    • Nutrition, recovery, and supplements (Nomio vs bicarb)

    • Whether the marathon is on the horizon

    • And the biggest mistakes he sees everyday runners making

This is a masterclass in modern distance running — from one of the most intelligent and composed athletes in the sport.
