ABOUT THIS MESSAGE:
Without the resurrection of Jesus, I would have to wonder whether anything he said was true. The disciples were huddled behind a locked door out of fear that they might meet the same fate that Jesus faced, even though there had been multiple people tell them that Jesus had risen. They had heard Jesus predict his death and resurrection before he died. Yet fear still filled their hearts. But Christ lives! And that makes all the difference. We have the greatest comfort that as fear comes to our hearts over what we have done and whether we might perish because of our sins, Christ’s promises in our life say different. He assures me with proof. He gives me peace.

ABOUT THIS MESSAGE:
Hail the King who humbly comes to save us! For 1700 years the church has celebrated this festival opening Holy Week with hosannas and palm branches. The time for Christ’s glory has come. But he will not gain his glory in the manner of other kings. Rather, he would humble himself in great acts of love for us to save us. His choice of a donkey to enter Jerusalem was humble, but his actions were not. With his actions, he proclaimed, “I am the Lord’s Servant, the Messiah long promised. I have come to save you.” The statement was heard loud and clear, and the crowds appropriately acclaimed him to be the Messiah.

“I believe in the resurrection and the life.” That is the crown jewel of Christianity. Today the church is reminded to remember and treasure the value of that truth. One day, Jesus will defeat the last enemy and life will reign again in our new Eden with God. On our Lenten walk to Calvary, the church sees the Savior come face to face with death and defeat it completely. Because Jesus did, the Son of God can offer us resurrection, the crown jewel of Christianity. One day, Jesus will give our dead back to us – body and soul, living and laughing and walking and talking in the new heavens and the new earth. That’s the crown jewel of Christianity, and it doesn’t cost us a thing.

ABOUT THIS MESSAGE:
The Old Testament always said that the blind receiving their sight is a sign that the dawn of the Messiah has come. Today, we see the Messiah heal the physically blind and the spiritually blind. We were all born in the blindness of sin, and without the light of Christ we cannot find a way to safety. Christ comes to us to shine his light into our darkened eyes so that we might see him and live. For those who refuse to see Jesus as their Savior, the blindness of unbelief remains. He gives gracious sight to those who trust in him and displays the work of God in the lives of those who now walk in the light of Christ.

As God’s people, we know that we have a deep spiritual thirst. We long for a good relationship with God and for everlasting life. The problem is not with the thirst, but where we often go to satisfy that thirst. We often go to the things of the world to find satisfaction, which is a strategy doomed for failure because our sights are set far too low – solutions for our worldly problems. We come to the right place when we realize that our thirst is satisfied only by the one who has come to give living water that wells up to eternal life. Our Savior is the one who said, “Whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst.” Jesus is water for the thirsty, exactly the water I need.

When Jesus said, “No one can enter the kingdom of God,” he rightly
condemned humanity as a whole. All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. But God’s promise is just as universal. “All are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.” Clearly God’s gift of salvation is for all people! But that does not mean all will be saved. This
gift of God comes by faith to all nations – “Whoever believes in him.” Paul tells us true children of Abraham receive this promise by faith – not by acts of obedience, but by simple trust in the promises of God.

God had placed human beings into a perfect world – a world of peace and prosperity, a world in perfect harmony with its Creator. Though human beings were called to worship the Lord and serve him only, they did not. Adam worshiped himself and the forbidden fruit and, by doing so, he condemned the world to darkness, sin, and death. But God so loved them! So, he made a promise: I will send forth my champion, my Son. What you could not do, he will do in your place. Because man could not live perfectly and serve God faithfully, the Son of God would become a man to do it in our place and win the victory.
