    Apr 15 2026

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This week Pip is joined by the always welcome and always funny ED GAMBLE!

Ed Gamble in the building! It's always a great day when Ed comes knocking. This is one of those episodes where topics could have been randomly picked out of a hat and it would have still been fantastic, but of course that's not how things went down (and topics remained organic to the conversation). Whether you know Ed from Off Menu or more recent ventures, or you've been a fan since the good old days, it's a lovely chat which factors in all sorts including early nu-metal days, the almight companion show 'The Traitors: Uncloaked' and the always cooking 'Taskmaster', the process of comedy and showmaking, being in support of comics, the consistently top 10 podcast 'Off Menu' with co-host genie James Acaster, the whole pivot to video movement within podcasting, and wrestling. And so much more! But that's for you to discover. ENJOY!

    Apr 10 2026

emocleW, emocleW, emocleW to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This is your bonus FRIDAY REWIND episode! Today, we catch up with Jamie Demetriou, originally episode 212 from 2018-06-20.

    Original writeup below:

You’re going to be seeing a LOT more of Jamie over the next month or two as he’s about to unveil his new series ‘Stath Lets Flats’, which is part of Channel 4’s ‘Comedy Blaps’ vehicle - in the meantime, enjoy this proper get together with Pip and Jamie, as the two cover a ton of ground in the cosy but apparently humid Acast studios to discuss the use of the not often utilised Greek accent in comedy, working on a small scale as a jumping board for larger scale work, the fact that he’s “Always done idiots”, working with and promoting his comedian sister, the heightened but committed character, reactions to comedy within the actual scenes, improv and the importance of casting, the insanity and craziness of the Edinburgh Fringe, the idea of ‘anti-comedy’, and it’s important to point out that while this episode features reference to David Earl throughout, the podcast is not sponsored nor overseen by him. But check him out whenever you can, of course. He’s awesome. So’s Jamie. Enjoy!

  • DAVID DASTMALCHIAN • the LA vampire with an attitude of gratitude (Late Night With The Devil / One Piece / Oppenheimer) #666
    Apr 8 2026

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This week Pip is joined by the excellent and truly unique actor DAVID DASTMALCHIAN!

The perfect guest for this episode 🤘 as the Iron Maiden classic spins in the background... David is a fantastic presence who has awesome stories but it's not just that, it's the whole vibe. Some might say "essence", if they're feeling snooty. But whatever the weather - always a good hang. There is a HUGE amount of covered ground here as you'd hope, including a hot off the press movie recommendation, some Cyndi Lauper business up top, music recommendations, loving LA as a vampire (complete with black umbrella), early Chicago days artistry, craft, process, gratitude and reckoning with past addictions having been in recovery for almost 2 decades. And, as Pip hints, tales for days. Really great stuff, proper Distraction Pieces goodness or - if you will - Dastmalchian Pieces, as it shall be known for this episode. Thank you.

    Original writeup below:

(welcome) WELCOME w-e-l-c-o-m-e (trying to match Pip's impulse to change that cadence at the start) to your 90th episode of the Distraction Pieces Podcast, featuring the wonderful and crazy skilled Georgina Campbell! A bright and breezy chat to match the time of year, with a super nice back and forth between Georgina and Pip covering all the good stuff, from her being talent-scouted in the street, to her earlier roles and influences, her awards win for 'Murdered By My Boyfriend', and the back catalogue of goodness as well as the - forward? - catalogue of greatness down the road... Such a nice, uplifting and inspiring chat from one of the UK's finest. Georgina Campbell is your new best friend!

  • ONE DRINK w/ Kae, Polar & Musa • a flashback to 2011 in 3 movements #665
    Apr 1 2026

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This week we have a rare throwback recording to 2011 (pre-Distraction Pieces Podcast) with Pip, Kae Tempest, Musa Okwonga and Polarbear!

The Mount Rushmore of spoken word right here folks, captured in a recording Pip uncovered while late-night trawling through the vaults by candlelight. This was originally recorded on camera but there was also a mic in the middle of the room - though as you will hear, it's a bit of a recording sandwich with the slightly more decent recording forming the bread and the slightly more raw camera audio forming the filling. Follow? Nice. It's a really cool chat, incredibly freeform and without defined topics and certainly not recorded with the shape and craft you might expect of late-era Distraction Pieces. But think of it as the 'Distraction Pieces Basement Tapes' - a lively chat of varying audio quality which functions nicely as a time capsule. It's also uncanny hearing about predictions for the following decade - eerie how much has been manifested since... The audio has been cleaned up a touch but sometimes with this kind of sound, things can get worse the more you try and scoop out of it, so just allow your ears to get familiar with it and you'll be grand. Enjoy - it's like sitting at the table where it happened!

    Mar 27 2026

emocleW, emocleW, emocleW to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This is your bonus FRIDAY REWIND episode! Today, we catch up with Will & Phoebe of FULL FACT.ORG, originally episode 13 from 2015-01-07.

As Pip mentions on the intro, it is quite a weird episode. This is of course not down the awesome guests representing FullFact, but more down to how drastically the media and basic human landscape has changed since the episode was broadcast 11 years ago. We've seen how much can change in a week - so with our perspective over a decade later, it's like stepping back into a very bizarre alternative timeline. What's weird is that the phrase "fake news" was a mere glint in some shady folks eyes, and also that this chat happened 5 years before a pandemic, which was where misinformation truly had its time in the sun. Let alone artificial intelligence. This is some novel-worthy stuff right here. Anyway - without getting too caught up in all of the chaos, FullFact is a VERY important organisation who specialise in neutralising dis/mis-information and set out to fully fact check what gets out there, so listen knowing that you can and should check in on their site regularly. It's not a grift, it's not a hoax, it's an honest place where bullshit goes to die. They can use that if they want (it's good right?). ENJOY!

  • ANSON BOON • 'The Good Boy' in cinemas now! (MobLand / Pistol / 1917) #664
    Mar 25 2026

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This week Pip is joined by the force of acting posititivity (and good boy) that is ANSON BOON!

As stated in the episode title, 'The Good Boy' (aka 'Heel' in the US) is out and about now, in which Anson plays alongside the powerful duo of Stephen Graham and Andrea Riseborough. Anson is capable of playing characters who aren't necessarily immediately charming, let's say, and some that might require a little work to warm to, but always make for some truly captivating and interesting, memorable performances which inspire conversation, debate and thought. So it goes without saying that this chat is an awesome one as Pip finds out where these choices originate, and traces the source of Anson's acting path. Of course there are so many facets and angles covered too, including basically becoming a fully functioning Sex Pistols tribute band by way of 'Pistol' (in which he was coached by Underworld!), his love of a film set, being a nepo gangster, the School of Kate Winslett, acting alongside Tom Hardy, Helen Mirren, Paddy Considine, Pierce Brosnan and so many more, and just a huge amount of fascinating goodies from his time in front of and nearby the camera. Inspiring and lovely stuff, enjoy!

    Mar 20 2026

emocleW, emocleW, emocleW to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This is your bonus FRIDAY REWIND episode! Today, we catch up with Shaggy, originally episode 528 from 2023-08-23.

    Original writeup below:

Very broadly speaking, a lot of you will know Shaggy as Mr Boombastic, or the guy who did Oh Carolina and It Wasn't Me. But dig a little deeper and there are worlds of releases and shows and all sorts of stories from the past that are just too exciting and interesting to pass up on... And that's what makes this last minute convo with Pip and Shaggy so awesome! It's the stories behind the hits that are amazing, and the historical signifigance of them too. But in that world, of course there will be all kinds of run-ins, collabos, tales and amazing anecdotes, and Shaggy delivers on all counts. So whether you're a full on dancehall reggae appreciator or someone who remembers the name, don't miss this one - it's super entertaining and a fascinating trip from start to end.
