A huge episode in the Distraction Pieces canon, as Pip caught up with Alan - at time of publishing - over a decade ago in Alan's house. It was the early days of the podcast and of course the style and flow of the show was developing, but this was a fabulous sign of things to come and that even when the show was a toddler, it was looking at a mountain of greatness. At times of course the whole subject can seem intimidating as, for sure, individually we can't solve this one. BUT - when we work together and realise the powers we do have, and work with what we can in the realms of our imediate surroundings first, there is a huge amount to be positive and hopeful for. This episode with Rosie will surely add to that feeling, and among so much more you'll hear how she found herself in this area and how career paths merged and blended, how to work with fossil fuel companies in a way which can make things better for the world in general as well as the employees, the idea of death by a million paper cuts when it comes to greedy and careless corporations, being strategic with movements and working with available skills and potential, the many shades of community action, and how ultimately we all get better through linking in our communities. As always, get a notebook or open the notes app, you'll do well to scribble some bits down!

Just tune in and take a ride with the story telling genius and indulge in those sweet Northern tones. From history to now, it all gets covered - his inspirational teacher who encouraged him in all kinds of ways, cultivating his own style from the cast in his life and picking up little elements from everyone he appreciated, the cerebral of poetry vs the immediate of rock and roll, his love and adoption of American style and trends, aiming to be an ‘artist as professional citizen’, having the door to success opened to him by none other than Bernard Manning of all people, NO FLARES, gigging with The Fall, Chickentown, Arctic Monkeys, Michael Madson, and as you can imagine - AN IMMENSE AMOUNT MORE! So, so great. You’ll like this one.
