    Originally Aired: April 7, 1953
Johnny Dollar #157, "The Enoch Arden Matter,"
Johnny Dollar is called in by Henry Grant when a New York court declares Frank Loring legally dead after seven years, triggering a quarter-million-dollar life insurance payout to his widow, Mrs. Loring. Just as the company prepares to pay the claim, a nurse named Ruth Beloyne contacts them from Boston with an intriguing lead. She believes she recently vaccinated a man calling himself Michael Walsh at the Haywood Clinic, someone who looked strangely familiar despite his altered appearance. When she sees Mrs. Loring's picture in the newspaper, Ruth realizes the patient might have been Frank Loring himself. Her suspicions are strengthened by the fact that Loring was a skilled character actor expert in makeup and dialects, and that Michael Walsh obtained an international vaccination certificate before sailing to Chile.
Johnny traces the lead and discovers that Michael Walsh indeed sailed on the SS Castillo bound for Santiago. He rushes to New York to question Mrs. Loring, crashing a celebration party at her Greenwich Village apartment. There, a bitter poet named Freddy inadvertently reveals that Mrs. Loring is also planning a trip to Chile, raising Johnny's suspicions about a possible conspiracy between the supposedly dead husband and his widow.

  • The Lester James Matter (no ending)
    Mar 27 2026
    Originally Aired: March 31, 1953
Johnny Dollar #156, "The Lester James Matter (no ending),"
Johnny Dollar is called to New York to investigate a seemingly straightforward embezzlement case. Bookkeeper Lester James has confessed to stealing $4,185 from his employer, Wallace Cottons and Company, and is sitting in jail awaiting trial. The Corinthian Liability insurance company needs Johnny to recover the money, but when he interviews James, the prisoner stubbornly refuses to reveal what he did with the stolen funds. Despite Johnny's warnings that cooperation could help his case, James remains tight-lipped, insisting he spent every dime and has nothing more to say.
Johnny begins digging into James's background, interviewing his landlady Mrs. Denovich and neighbors in his modest 59th Street apartment building. What emerges is a puzzling portrait: a quiet, hardworking war veteran living in a dismal room with threadbare furniture and no signs of wealth or extravagance. The man everyone describes doesn't match the profile of an embezzler with over four thousand dollars to spend, leaving Johnny to wonder what really happened to the missing money.

  • The Syndicate Matter
    Mar 26 2026
    Originally Aired: March 24, 1953
Johnny Dollar #155, "The Syndicate Matter," insurance investigator Johnny Dollar travels to the booming Tupelo oil fields after four employees covered under a group policy are murdered in identical fashion - beaten to death. Meeting with Wilbur Runyon of the southwestern division, Johnny learns that all four victims were newcomers to the field who had been unemployed for months before arriving, and at least some had suffered mysterious "accidents" shortly before their deaths. When the widow of the latest victim, Manuel Gonzalez, reveals her husband had been terrified after being badly beaten in an unreported incident, Johnny becomes suspicious of a protection racket or murder-for-hire scheme.
Going undercover as a laborer in the oil field, Johnny quickly attracts the attention of straw boss Bull Farrell, who offers to help the "broke" new employee with money troubles. When Johnny deliberately gets refused an advance from the payroll office, Farrell directs him to Frankie Roebling in the tool department, a man who supposedly likes to help workers with loans for a little interest. Johnny's investigation leads him straight into what appears to be a dangerous loan sharking operation that may be connected to the string of murders.

  • The King's Necklace Matter
    Mar 25 2026
    Originally Aired: March 17, 1953
Johnny Dollar #154, "The King's Necklace Matter," finds insurance investigator Johnny Dollar flying to a private island off the coast of Cuba to look into a suspicious attempted theft. King Rawlings, a retired financial tycoon, has reported that someone tried to break into his safe, presumably after his insured quarter-million-dollar necklace. Waiting on Los Panos island are an intriguing cast of characters, including the beautiful Nita Valdez, who openly admits she hates Rawlings, and his nervous secretary Timothy Harley. Everyone on the island has been accused by the paranoid king, and they all seem to share a common bond: they hate their host but stay for his money.
When Johnny finally examines the necklace in Rawlings' safe, he makes a startling discovery that transforms the case from a simple attempted burglary into something far more serious. The gleaming stones in the elaborate necklace are paste, worthless imitations of the genuine article. With Rawlings claiming no knowledge of how the switch occurred and insisting he's the only one with the safe combination, Johnny faces a complex puzzle involving greed, deception, and a potentially fraudulent insurance claim.

  • The Jeanne Maxwell Matter
    Mar 24 2026
    Originally Aired: March 6, 1953
Johnny Dollar #152, "The Jeanne Maxwell Matter," Johnny Dollar heads to Boston to investigate the death of twenty-one-year-old Jeanne Maxwell, found dead in shallow water beneath a bridge. While the case appears to be suicide, Lieutenant DeRosa shares his suspicions with Johnny that something doesn't add up. The bridge is too low for a typical suicide jump, and Jeanne's body contradicts the usual pattern—she was still wearing her coat, belt, and shoes. The location itself raises questions: why would she travel four miles out of town when Boston offers more accessible bridges?
As Johnny digs deeper, he interviews Jeanne's roommate Mary O'Neill, who reveals that Jeanne lived life at a frantic pace after her invalid mother entered a rest home. Mary mentions Jeanne's boyfriend Harold Corey, a truck driver currently on a run to Philadelphia, but also hints at Jeanne's involvement with multiple other men. Searching Jeanne's belongings, Johnny discovers expensive perfumes, lingerie, and a distinctive heart-shaped key—luxuries far beyond what a truck driver's girlfriend should possess. The investigation takes a darker turn as Johnny prepares to question Jeanne's employer, Edward Hollis, convinced that this young woman's death was no suicide.

  • The Underwood Matter: A Fall from the Fourth Floor
    Mar 13 2026
    Originally Aired: February 27, 1953

In The Underwood Matter, insurance investigator Johnny Dollar is sent to Rexford, Wyoming after wealthy businessman Raymond Underwood falls to his death from a fourth-story hotel window. With a $25,000 life insurance policy—and a double indemnity clause if the death was accidental—the insurance company needs to know whether Underwood fell, jumped, or was pushed. At the coroner’s inquest, testimony from hotel staff and Underwood’s elegant young widow points toward an accidental fall. But Dollar begins to suspect something is wrong when he learns that Underwood had considered changing the beneficiary on his policy just days before his death.

Digging deeper, Dollar discovers inconsistencies in the widow’s story—particularly her claim that Underwood had been drinking that morning, despite no evidence of alcohol in his room. As pressure mounts and the investigation expands, the trail leads to a nearby ranch and a man who had grown close to Mrs. Underwood. In a dramatic confession, the truth emerges: a confrontation fueled by jealousy and love ended with a fatal shove and a fall from the hotel window. What first appeared to be an accident reveals itself as a tragic crime of passion in this gripping episode of Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar.

  • The Cumberland Theft Matter: A Disappearance, A Ransom, and a Convenient Case of Amnesia
    Mar 9 2026
    Originally Aired: August 22, 1951

In The Cumberland Theft Matter, insurance investigator Johnny Dollar travels to New York to look into the mysterious disappearance of wealthy grocery chain owner Leland Case. With a substantial insurance policy at stake, the company wants answers—but the circumstances surrounding Case’s vanishing quickly grow complicated. Case’s much younger wife reports him missing, while his lawyer insists the overworked businessman has simply taken a much-needed rest away from the pressures of business and marriage. When a mysterious caller demands $10,000 in ransom for Case’s safe return, the situation escalates into a tense race against time. Dollar and the police set a trap during a daylight ransom exchange in Manhattan, capturing a petty criminal who claims he only staged the extortion after reading about the disappearance in the newspapers. His story seems absurd—but without proof of a real kidnapping, the investigation stalls. The mystery deepens when Case is finally discovered wandering near White Plains, badly beaten and suffering from apparent amnesia. Unable—or unwilling—to remember his life, his business empire, or even his beautiful young wife, Case leaves everyone questioning what really happened during his disappearance. But Johnny Dollar notices something in Case’s behavior that suggests the truth may be far more deliberate than anyone realizes. Originally Aired: May 19, 1951
In The Jane Doe Matter, insurance investigator Johnny Dollar is dispatched to Chicago to investigate the disappearance of a young bank messenger—and the $80,000 in cash he was carrying. When Henry Lillis vanishes en route to complete a routine transfer, suspicion quickly falls on the quiet, dutiful son who seemed above reproach.

What begins as a presumed kidnapping spirals into betrayal, violence, and murder at a secluded house near Lake Bluff.
As confessions unravel and alibis collapse, Dollar pieces together the truth behind a staged fight, a fabricated accomplice, and a fatal blow delivered in anger. In the end, the stolen money is recovered—but at the cost of shattered lives and broken families. A haunting exploration of parental guilt, misguided love, and the tragic consequences of ambition, this episode delivers classic noir tension with a deeply human edge.
