The King's Necklace Matter

Johnny Dollar #154, "The King's Necklace Matter," finds insurance investigator Johnny Dollar flying to a private island off the coast of Cuba to look into a suspicious attempted theft. King Rawlings, a retired financial tycoon, has reported that someone tried to break into his safe, presumably after his insured quarter-million-dollar necklace. Waiting on Los Panos island are an intriguing cast of characters, including the beautiful Nita Valdez, who openly admits she hates Rawlings, and his nervous secretary Timothy Harley. Everyone on the island has been accused by the paranoid king, and they all seem to share a common bond: they hate their host but stay for his money.
When Johnny finally examines the necklace in Rawlings' safe, he makes a startling discovery that transforms the case from a simple attempted burglary into something far more serious. The gleaming stones in the elaborate necklace are paste, worthless imitations of the genuine article. With Rawlings claiming no knowledge of how the switch occurred and insisting he's the only one with the safe combination, Johnny faces a complex puzzle involving greed, deception, and a potentially fraudulent insurance claim.
