I have been into anime since the 90s and started watching Japanese dramas in the late 00s. I'm still planning my first trip to Japan and started learning Japanese in the spring of 2024. I have no plans to move to Japan, and anime isn't the reason I'm putting in so much effort in learning Japanese.

My family is conservative and religious; my mother's worst nightmare was for me to get pregnant as a teenager. She kept a close eye on me and made sure that I didn't date until my 20s. Every 6 months, I went to the hospital with her to make sure that I was still a virgin. I had to prove I was still a virgin from a young age.

I grew up in a conservative family where manners and reputation meant everything. I wasn't allowed to have friends and had to maintain a good girl image, which wasn't hard since I was a boring girl. I never spoke my mind and went along with everything my parents planned for me without questioning their decision.
