Welcome to Canadian Creepies—the podcast that digs into the dark corners of Canada’s past and present. Your hosts Valerie, Ali, Amanda Joy ( host of Down the Crooked Path), and sometimes Kyle explore the true crime cases that haunt us, the paranormal encounters that make us question what’s real, and the unsettling folklore that lingers just out of sight.

From cults to cold cases, ghosts to government cover-ups, we don’t just tell the stories—we ask why they still matter.

It’s creepy. It’s Canadian. And it’s probably going to keep you up at night.

  • 051 The Case of Russell Williams
    Jan 15 2026

Send us a text, tell us your canadian creepy!

In 2010, Colonel David Russell Williams — once one of Canada’s most respected military leaders — was revealed to be something far darker. A decorated commander of Canadian Forces Base Trenton, Williams shocked the nation when an extensive investigation uncovered a chilling double life: years of secret break-ins, fetish burglaries, and ultimately the rape and murder of two women in Ontario. What began as a trusted public servant became one of Canada’s most disturbing and confounding criminal cases.

In this episode, we trace his rise and fall — from elite pilot and commander to federal prisoner — and explore how someone entrusted with authority hid a haunting pattern of violence right under everyone’s feet. We focus on the impacts on victims, the investigation that cracked the case, and the public reckoning that followed.

We also couldn’t help but reflect on our current case, the shooting of Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis, and the shared cultural currents that tie Canadians and Minnesotans together — from values of community connection to the shock that comes when violence touches ordinary lives.

This is not just a story about crimes and consequences — it’s a look at trust, power, and the stories we tell about both.

  • DTCP 029 - Coughlins Coffin
    Jan 13 2026

Send us a text, tell us your canadian creepy!

Along a quiet stretch of road near the St. Lawrence River sits one of Ontario’s most unsettling landmarks: Coughlin’s Coffin.

In this episode of Down the Crooked Path, Amanda Joy ventures into the chilling legend of Patrick Coughlin — a man said to have been buried alive in the 1800s, his coffin later unearthed bearing desperate scratch marks on the inside. What began as a tragic death has become one of Canada’s most enduring roadside ghost stories.

We trace the historical roots of the tale, separating documented fact from folklore, and explore the very real 19th-century fear of premature burial. From there, we follow how the legend evolved — reports of ghostly apparitions, strange lights, phantom footsteps, and why locals still refuse to stop at the site after dark.

Is Coughlin’s Coffin a warning from the past? A legend shaped by generations of retelling? Or something far more restless lingering along the roadside?

Turn down the lights and come with us as we go down the crooked path.

  • 050 - After the Lights
    Jan 8 2026

Send us a text, tell us your canadian creepy!

In this episode, we step into a world shaped by nightlife, power, and silence tracing the movement between Detroit and Windsor in the 1970s and the lasting consequences that followed.

Drawing from The Queen’s Daughter, this episode focuses on what came after: the work of telling the story, reclaiming agency, and pushing back against systems that were never designed to protect young women. Through writing and advocacy, Melissa McCormick confronts the culture that allowed harm to flourish and asks difficult questions about accountability, survival, and whose voices are believed.

This is not a story told for shock value.
It’s about memory, resilience, and the long road from silence to speaking out.

    Listener discretion advised.
