  • Top Financial Services Dem wants "more guardrails" on crypto measures before Congress
    Aug 13 2025

Visit Ask a Pol ~ asking your lawmakers your questions at your US Capitol ~What should we ask Congress next? Let us know!In our latest episode, Ask a Pol asks:

What’d you make of those three crypto measures — GENIUS Act, Anti-CBDC and CLARITY Act — passing out of the House of Representatives in July?

    Key Waters:

“There were too many crypto bills — three — and they had the votes,” Rep. Maxine Waters exclusively told Ask a Pol. “The crypto industry has done extraordinarily well with targeting members and getting the support that they need for their bills.

“Unfortunately, I needed to have more guardrails on the bills and more education to the members so that they could understand what crypto is all about. We did the best job that we could do. Unfortunately, between the industry and President Trump, there was a lot of support which influenced members to vote for the bill.”

  • Sen. Hagerty bullish on crypto: “My goal will be getting it done by the end of September"
    Aug 15 2025

Visit Ask a Pol ~ asking your lawmakers your questions at your US Capitol ~What should we ask Congress next? Let us know!

In our latest episode, Ask a Pol asks:

Do you think the Senate will combine some of the House-passed crypto bills — CLARITY Act and Anti-CBDC — into one measure?

    Key Hagerty:

“I don’t want to predict how it’s going to come together, because we just put out a large RFI,” Sen. Bill Hagerty exclusively told Ask a Pol. “So Im expecting a great deal of information to come in. But I think the work that was done on the CLARITY Act has been exceptional in the House, and that framework is basically serving as a guidepost for me. So again, I’m not going to try to predict whether we combine those things.”

There was some crypto drama over in the House yesterday.

    Key Scott:

“Is that right? What happened?,” Sen. Tim Scott exclusively told Ask a Pol. “Tell me about it.”

The ‘rule’* went down — you didn't hear about that?

“I did,” Scott said. “I figured you know more than I know, so I was gonna get the real stuff from you.”

Are you feeling good now that Trump got involved?

“It looked like it worked out last night,” Scott said. “Didn't it?”

    *Mini-explainer: What’s a House “rule”?

The Speaker controls the House of Representatives through maintaining a seemingly all-seeing, iron grip on the Rules Committee, which is (mostly) stacked with the Speaker’s faithful lieutenants.

Before any bill can come before the full House, the Rules Committee sets up parameters of floor debate, ie how much time each party has to debate, how many amendments are allowed to be offered, which amendments will be voted on, etc.

With 435 House members, imagine if each member offered an amendment at once…

  • Trump says he secured votes to move forward with stablecoin, GENIUS Act in the House
    Jul 16 2025

Visit Ask a Pol ~ asking your lawmakers your questions at your US Capitol ~What should we ask Congress next? Let us know!In our latest episode, Ask a Pol asks:

    Who?

    Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX)

    LISTEN: Laslo & Roy

    Ask a Pol asks:

Why’d you and a handful of other Republicans oppose the Rule to move forward with the Senate-passed stablecoin measure, the GENIUS Act?

    Key Roy:

“The Senate version, the GENIUS Act, leaves some room for some concerns with respect to the central bank digital currency, with there not being a hard ban on that,” Rep. Chip Roy tells Ask a Pol. “And we had some other things in our version of the bill with respect to clarity, which, again, deals with the market structure things that we think are incredibly important.

    Who?

Sen. Cynthia Lummis (R-WY) — Member, Senate Banking, Housing & Urban Affairs

Background: Congress is debating whether to keep the recently passed stablecoin measure as a standalone bill or whether it will be combined with market structure reform for digital assets.

Ask a Pol asks, if the President’s itching to sign something on digital assets?

  • Rep. Torres: combining stablecoin and market structure makes "it more complicated, not less"
    Jun 28 2025

    Who?

Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-NY) — House Financial Services Committee

    LISTEN: Laslo & Torres

    Ask a Pol asks:

What do you think about the new House effort to combine market structure and stablecoin measures into one behmoath bill?

    Key Torres:

“I’d prefer to do one at a time,” Rep. Ritchie Torres exclusively tells Ask a Pol. “Both bills are complicated but market structure even more. Allowing a simpler piece of legislation to be held hostage by a more complicated piece of legislation strikes me as unwise.”
