Welcome back to another Class Chats. In this episode Will catches up with Sam Murphy who hails from Portumna. You may recognise the name as he recently won on his professional debut in Egypt on the Alps Tour. A really sound young guy started off his journey by being part of the Portumna team that won the All Ireland Junior Cup in 2018. For Sam this was only the start. Winning the Under 18 Close by 8, The Connaught stroke play in his home course by 10 this guys not only knows how to win, but win big. But not everything has been plain sailing for Sam. Injuries have been his downfall and for a number of years he would have been thinking whether golf was really for him. I am so glad he prevailed as he is now living the dream including becoming a winner on tour. This guy is one to watch and hopefully he can move up to the Hotel Planner or even the DP Tour in the next couple of years. Worth a listen.

Welcome back to another Class Chat. In this episode Will catches up with Jamie Dreelan who is currently coaching Tommy Fleetwood and other tour golfers like John Murphy and Paul Dunne in the Tommy Fleetwood academy over in Dubai. Originally from Wexford Jamie played his golf in Enniscorthy where he won a Barton Cup in 2008. A talented golfer himself having played to a plus handicap level he decided to complete his PGA Professional qualification while working in Carlow Golf Center and then completed it while working in Rosslare Golf Club. He then took a leap of faith and moved to Dubai where he started working in Jumeriah Estates as a Golf Operations Manager. He then got the opportunity to join the Tommy Fleetwood academy as a trainer and has not looked back and who knows what the future will hold for him. This is a lovely chat with an Irish guy doing great things in golf on the global scale.

Welcome back to another Class Chat. In this episode Will catches up with Roscommon native Olivia Costello. At 17 years of age Olivia has already had a very successful golfing career and she is only getting started. From playing her first Senior Cup match at the age of 10 to getting to the semi final of the Irish Women's Close at 12 she is a tremendous talent. She also won the Irish Girls Open and Scottish Girls open in the same year and last year she won the Woodbrook Scratch Cup. Add to that being part of the Irish Girls European team who won bronze last year, being part of the 2024 Junior Vagliano team that finally beat the continent of Europe on the 8th attempt and also being part of the Women's Home internationals team that won the event in England last year. Olivia has done it all. With plans to go to LSU in America for college and also turning pro I think that this is only the start for a really amazing talent. I wish this wonderful lady every success in the future. Worth a listen.

Welcome back to another Class Chat. In this episode Will catches up with Claremorris Golf Club from Mayo who were victorious in the 2025 Pierce Purcell competition. On the call are Derek Reilly, Captain and 3 of the players, Tom Fanning Jnr, Rossa Higgins and Martin Murphy. Listen in as the lads bring us along their journey starting off with a tough opening match against long time rivals Castlebar and 4 other tough matches before winning the Connacht pennant in Athlone. Having played the Connacht final in Athlone they got their bit of luck as the All Ireland finals were also on in Athlone so maybe a bit more prep was done than other teams. But you still have to win 3 more matches to be crowned All Ireland Champions which they did with great victories over Jameson Links in the quarters, then Tramore in the semis and eventually overcoming a strong Cushendall team in the final. There are highs and lows and a Touch of Class from a Tramore Member along the way. Congratulations to this great bunch of lads. Worth a listen.

Welcome back to another Class Chat. In this episode Will does something new. On the call he has PGA Professional Gavin Young and Elite Amateur Niall Fitzgerald. What is interesting about this is that they are teacher and student. Gavin is one of the teaching pros out of Ballyneety in Limerick which will host the Junior Ryder Cup in 2027. Before turning pro Gavin was a plus handicap golfer and started his trade in Adare Manor and had the pleasure of sharing a range session with Rory McIlroy. He has since moved on the Ballyneety and offers lessons out of the driving range in the club. Niall is an Ex Elite rugby player having worn the Munster Jersey underage up to under 20s and had a regimented strength and conditioning routine until he discovered through an injury that he would have to give up a sport that he loves. Turning to golf a little later than some he has now brought that determination from Rugby to golf and with the help of Gavin has goals of being one of the best in the country. Welcome back to another Class Chat. In this episode Will catches up with Monkstown Golf Club from Cork who are 2025 Men's Junior Cup Champions. On the call are Manager Anthony O'Sullivan and players Philip Dorney, Jake Morrisson and Robbie Kennedy. These guys have experienced heartbreak at the All Ireland stages having lost at the quarter final stage in 2023 and then in the semi final in 2024 so to finally get it across the line in 2025 gives them great satisfaction. The lads talk through each of the 5 matches that got them their 3rd Munster Pennant in a row beating local rivals Douglas in the final. Onward to Tandragee in Armagh for the All Ireland Finals where 3 tough matches against Rockmount in the quarter final, Galway Bay in the semi final and Galgorm Castle in the final got them the coveted green pennant. From bad luck in previous years to good luck in 2025, tune in to listen to 4 great guys talking through the highs and lows of inter club golf and what it takes to finally get one across the line. Welcome back to another Class Chat. In this episode Will catches up with Roscommon man Thomas Higgins who is currently in Clemson University over in South Carolina. The lads chat about Thomas's love of the game and his success as a junior in winning the All Ireland Fred Daly with Roscommon with his great childhood friends who he also has shared success at Senior Cup and Barton Shield having won the Connaught Pennants in 2025. The lads then chat through college life, culture and how difficult it is to win on the College scene although Thomas has had great success with his college team. Onward to Irish championships and a few good results to then the highs of representing Ireland in the Home Internationals in 2024 followed by the lows of losing in the semi Final of the European Team championships in Killarney in 2025 with his match being the deciding match... Welcome back to anther Class Chat. In this episode Will catches up with Shannon Burke who hails from Ballinrobe in County Mayo. Shannon is an elite Irish Amateur and in 2025 alone won 4 times including Leinster, Munster and Connacht championships and completed her season by winning the Leinster Mid Am in Rosslare. To note that the Connacht championship alluded her for a number of years so that was one that gave her a lot of satisfaction. Sticking with 2025 Shannon also won a Senior Cup all Ireland medal with her new home Douglas golf club who not only won the double this year but the women in Douglas won back to back 2024 and 2025. Let us not forget that Shannon and her Irish teammates won Bronze at the European Mid Am Team Championships in Spain. Was this the dream season for Shannon? Tune in to find out... We also discussed the upcoming 2026 season which sees some interesting changes to the women's events. What one in particular is Shannon eyeing up to win???
