  • Osheaga Podcast 2025 (Unofficial) - Friday - Part 1
    May 15 2025

Osheaga 2025 is 79 days away!

Our Unofficial Osheaga Podcast is back for 2025! As always, we’re kicking things off chronologically (it just seems the best way to go) and starting with Friday’s lineup!

(More or less) every two weeks Sarah and I will be digging into the entire lineup of this year’s Osheaga to give you music recommendations all summer long. We pick ten acts from each day, we talk about them, play clips of their tunes to give you a feel for their music and tell you why we think they’re worth checking.

We’re having fun and talking about music all summer long, won’t you join us?

But wait – you don’t need us to tell you why you should probably check out The Killers now do you? So (for the purposes of this show) we ruled out the entire top line of each day of the lineup. So yes, that means you will need to decide for yourself if you’re going to see the likes of The Chainsmokers or not.

Trust us, if you listen to all of these episodes you might find yourself running back and forth between stages all weekend and discovering your new favourite artist.

Here is our first batch of 5 “non-headline” acts we think are worth checking out for Friday !

    • EKKSTACY – head in the clouds
    • Wunderhorse – Rain
    • PyPy’s Poodle Wig
    • The Struts – Can’t Stop Talking
    • La Femme – Love is Over

    See You at Osheaga!

Osheaga runs from August 2nd to August 4th at Parc Jean Drapeau. Check out osheaga.com for more info and tickets.

  • GPYS 316 - Shosho Abotouk
    May 14 2025

The Montreal arts and entertainment podcast that asks co-creator of the Montreal Crochet Club Shosho Abotouk: “What is your favourite niche soda?” That question asked in episode 315 by the wonderful James McGee. Sorry James, Shosho didn’t grow up with RC Cola so she has no fond memories of that slice of Canadiana.

Our guest this week is none other than Shosho Abotouk who runs an amazing night of comedy that combines crochet, knitting and comedy. For more info on the next event check out Montreal Crochet Club on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and basically every where else too. Shosho joined Walter, Troy and I at Grumpy’s to talk about combining your passions, the difference between crocheting and knitting and how hard it is to get a learner’s permit in Montreal. If you’re looking for a fun night of comedy where you can also bring your knitting and not get dirty looks from everyone around you then look no further, you’ve found your people.

Oh and during this episode that obviously focuses a lot on crocheting and knitting we do talk about Walter’s sister Katia who is also extremely talented, do yourself a favour and check out Katia’s page on Facebook as well at “Season of the Stitch”.

Enjoy the show and Go Plug Yourself.

  • GPYS 315 - James McGee 2025!
    Apr 24 2025

The Montreal podcast that asks wrestling promoter and professional improv star James McGee: “What question do you hate being asked?” – That question asked as always by our very own Inés Anaya back in our last episode.

James McGee lives a life on the fringe man. A double life full of moonsaults, yes-ands, powerbombs and audience suggestions. James McGee is the epicentre of improvisational artistry taking his talents to the squared circle and the improv stage with equal measures of grace and wit.

James joins Walter J. Lyng and I at the back of Grumpy’s Bar to talk about this past weekend’s Wrestlemania, Jake the Snake Roberts, Survivor Series, Sami Zayn’s comedy and much, much more!

If wrestling is your thing you can catch the next BATTLEWAR this Sunday at Foufounes Electriques (and you should probably follow the BATTLEWAR Facebook page as well to keep tabs on their upcoming events). If improv is more your style you should check out Mile End Improv where James performs and teaches.

With all that out of the way you should sit back, relax and Go Plug Yourself. We’ve had James on this show a bunch and you should probably do yourself a favour and dig into the archives to listen to all the episodes going all the way back to 2014. This is his 7th time on the show!

  • 9ES 334: There's Very Little Daredevil in this Daredevil
    Apr 16 2025

Montreal’s favorite geek and pop culture podcast 9ES is back to talk about the Chicken Jockey trend, the stupid AI Studio Ghibli trend, the Canadian election, Daredevil: Born Again and so much more. Of course it’s only natural that we start the episode off about how my brother now kind of sounds like Kieran Culkin after he recovered from Covid. Topical!

I really can’t express enough how happy the “Chicken Jockey” trend makes me. We talk a little bit in the episode how it seems like relatively harmless fun and pales in comparison to some of the horror stories we heard back in the day during showings of the first Jackass movie. Well, clearly the kids of today heard us trash talk their shenanigans and things have… escalated. Check this video out for clips of people sneaking in a live chicken and setting off actual fireworks in the movie theatre. Yet it still makes me happy. Why? Maybe I’m just happy these Mindcraft nerds are getting out of the house and doing something real for once in their lives, ok?

Meanwhile, the fast we move on from the AI Studio Ghibli trend the better. You know it’s a super cool fun trend when the White House is in on the trend showing a picture of a woman being deported. Fun and cool!

Finally, I’m catching up on Daredevil: Born Again over on Disney+ and I’m not really sure why it pissed people off. It’s good. You should watch it. It feels a lot like the Netflix Daredevil series which was easily one of the best Marvel things around. Maybe I’ll be finished it by the time next episode rolls around? Or maybe not.

Meanwhile – over on Garbage Time, we talk quite a bit of hockey talk. From the Montreal Canadiens playoff aspirations to Alex Ovechkin now holding the NHL all time goal-scoring title. To offset all the sports talk we then talk about House of X and Powers of X and you won’t believe how you’re supposed to pronounce “Powers of X” considering it’s an X-Men book. If you would like to show your support and head over to Patreon and subscribe at the 9ES Deluxe tier to listen to this and all past episodes of Garbage Time that would be appreciated.

    Enjoy the show(s)!
