Perfection!

This is a great collection of some of the best Woodhouse stories. And it’s read to perfection too!

The only storyteller, the only narrator

If you haven’t as yet indulged in P.G. Wodehouse then you’ve missed so very much. And if you’re going to try out audio, then the only narrator for the Wodehouse job, is Jonathan Cecil. Every other narrator either pales or whimpers in corners by comparison

Can't miss for Wodehouse fans!

What did you love best about Young Men in Spats?

The best thing about this recording is the way Jonathan Cecil delivers the narration--he's an excellent and expressive reader.

What about Jonathan Cecil’s performance did you like?

His vocal characterizations are amazing and consistent, and a great fit for the material.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I've listened to it more than once because I enjoy it so much. This is a collection of short stories featuring different characters from the Wodehouse imagination.

Any additional comments?

I'm glad it's unabridged, because I don't want to miss a word of Wodehouse's humor!

Spats. Cats. Hats. This Book has Everything.

One of the outstanding collections of Wodehouse short stories. Eleven delightful tales, the best being "Noblesse Oblige", "Uncle Fred Flits By", "Archibald and the Masses", "Trouble Down at Tudsleigh" and "Tried in the Furnace", with everything else running a close second.

"Good-Bye to All Cats" contains what is possibly the funniest description of a character in all of Wodehouse: "She was like a chunk of ice cream with spikes all over it".

I've always thought that the last story, "The Fiery Wooing of Mordred" was a shade off the Master's usual high standards, but I've come to realize that feeling is merely due to the fact that it's the last story--and I know that I'll have to go back to Real Life again once it's over.

Don’t miss chapter 8

Lord Ickanham (sp?) spreads Sweetness and Light in chap 8. With JC’s narration, there is really no better LOL audio anywhere

Old fashioned laughs!

Transport yourself back to the days when collars were separate from shirts, men wore spats, and socks were held up by garters, and enjoy these stories from Wodehouse. In Wodehouse tales, people fell in love at first sight (try writing THAT in a story today!). My favorites were the tales of Freddie, who had quite a few girls who were "the only girl in the world". Of course, he loses each and every one of them. We have a house full of cats (oh so funny) and a "ghost" who paves the way for true love. Add to the mix a visit from Uncle Fred and several Mr. Mulliner tales, and you've got a book that had me laughing out loud numerous times.

The pip!

Excellent stories - Freddie Widgeon, our 1st encounter with Frederick Altamont Cornwallis Twistleton, 5th Earl of Ickenham aka Uncle Fred, Mr. Mulliner - and the absolute best narrator in Jonathan Cecil. I cannot listen to any other narrators (except Jeremy Sinden reading Pigs Have Wings).
