Resumen del Editor

Adam Garwood did not realize that when Jillian Lambert walked into his detective agency, his life would never be the same. Not only was Jillian trying to uncover a cold case from 20 years prior, but she was also looking for her twin sister, Devon, whose disappearance was the focus of this case. Adam would soon learn that his probing would uncover a hidden mystery surrounding the Centaur Theatre and its cast of actors, this also leading to frightening details about the Montreal mafia.

Should he leave well enough alone? He would be jeopardizing not only his own life but that of Richard, his lover and soon to be husband. Had his desire to solve this case become all-consuming to him?

Good.

Interesting story and the audio was well done, and added to this story. Have listen to other stories by Robbins as a narrator and is good. Given audio for my voluntary review

Yolk

Yolk (Adam Garwood Detective #1)
: Colleen Baxter Sullivan

I listened to this and thought that it was way too convoluted to really make sense. I couldn't find even one character that I could really like. Maybe it was just the frame of mind as I listened, but I'm not sure. A lot less dialogue and more narrative would have helped. I've read other reviews that loved the novel, so it probably depends on the listener.

The narration was done by Michael Robbins. There wasn't any emotion or energy.....just not for me! Sorry!

I enjoyed the book but felt the ending was rushed.

Adam Garfield, a detective, is hired by Jillian Lambert to find her missing sister.  Her twin sister, Devon, has only been missing for 20 years!  Adam sees a desperation in Jillian that leads him to take on her case and try to solve the mysterious disappearance of Devon.  However, Adam quickly realizes that there is more to the mystery than he was told and there are a lot more players involved. No one is telling Adam the full story … there are too many secrets and hidden agendas.  Adam recognizes the danger to both himself and his soon to be husband, Richard.  His need to solve the missing person case and put an end to the mystery just pushes him closer to the danger he’s trying to avoid.

Colleen Baxter Sullivan has put together a quirky cast of characters and made what might have been a simple missing person case and made it more dangerous and involved.  It is a fast read, lots of action.  The main character, Adam is trying to do too much – balance his home vs work life, his sexuality, his relationships, and put everything in a neat little box.  Sullivan doesn’t let him get away with that and keeps Adam on his toes.

I enjoyed the book but felt the ending was rushed.

Michael Robbins performed the narration very well letting the story flow smoothly.  The sound effects – the voices on the phone were not as clear as they could have been, they were gritty.

There were no issues with the audio production or quality of the audiobook.

Twin search

Adam Garwood is a gay detective who is hired by Jillian Lambert to find her twin sister who disappeared twenty years ago. The story revolves around Adam, his gay partner, a gay detective on the police force and Jillian Lambert. On his quest to solve the case Adam learns that Jillian is very flaky and untrustworthy and never knows when she is telling the truth or leaving facts out. The story progressed reasonably well in the beginning but as it developed it seemed to become more and more unbelievable. Part way though the novel I noticed that the author never used any contractions always opting for the full two word form and this became very distracting, so much so, that it tainted my appreciation for the story. I also found the sound effects a little hard to understand at times because of the lack of audible clarity. All in all, not a bad book, but some distracting items reduced my enjoyment.

Part mystery, part gay romance

What would have made Yolk better?

I felt like this book was all over the place. Crazy woman talking to spirits, Gay pride, the mob and what happened to the sister. There was a lot in here that could have been left out to bring the story together better.

Has Yolk turned you off from other books in this genre?

I like detective books but this wasn't for me.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Confusion- it started out as a good mystery and I was into it but as it went a long I felt sidetracked and some of it didn't even make sense and by the end it felt rushed and I was just plain confused.

Any additional comments?

All over the place.

I received this audiobook for free from the author / narrator / publisher in exchange for an unbiased review.

The book started out just fine, but then it spread so many threads and started so many different discussions that everything got diluted and confusing. The author tried to tackle too many things and spread the story all over the place. So much so that it got very irritating and no entertainment value was left.

The main two characters themselves act idiotically. The client didn't do anything other than beg for help and the detective kinda sorta stumbled onto the discoveries. Neither of them made any good impressions on me.

Halfway through the book, I was done with it.

Good story but a little distracting

I got this code for free on Goodreads for an unbiased review, and what I thought about this story is that it’s somehow stuck in the middle, between a gay story and a directive story.

The way protagonist got his clue was so boring. How could someone get all the information he needed from one person and one chat? Let alone the sudden and strong feeling to the others. Too much unnecessary solipsism.

The narrator’s voice is clear and posh, and a little over-relax, if you ask me. Personally I think this voice will be perfect for a romance story, comforting a tired heart after all day work. But not that nervous, for a suspense story,

Interesting Story

This story was a little different than most detective stories. I would have to agree with some of the other reviews that said it was kind of all over the place. There was a lot of things going on and while usually for me I like a lot of action and movement in books this one was a little over the top. Some of the things that Adam uncovered during the investigation surprised in the sense that Jillian didn't find them out first. Jillian seemed so concerned about her missing sister yet it didn't seem like she actually did anything to find her except keep begging for help. If I was in that situation I would have started investigating my life and the events that led up to her disappearance on my own while also trying to find someone to help me. The story just seemed a little too far out for me but I imagine there are others out there that would really like this book.

Quirky mystery

Adam Garwood is a smart PI who gets more than he bargained for when he takes on a new client, Jillian Lambert. Set in Montreal, with a cast of unconventional characters (including some nasty evil spirits), the plot moves at a brisk pace. It is a nice mix of mystery and horror with a realistic depiction of a contemporary gay couple. The narration added to the enjoyment of this book.

Good

I enjoyed this suspenseful story but struggled at times because the story was all over the place. It seemed almost like the story got sidetracked. The suspense was still pretty good and I did end up enjoying most of the story.
