Nice Mix

I liked Mary Robinette's variety of stories. M. R. explores medieval time travel, death magic, AIs trying to learn puppeteering, and more. Something for everyone. My favorite was Body Language, the story that goes with the cover image.

Also love that she narrates her own work!

A glittering variety of stories!

Fairy tales, adventures,puzzles, sf alternate histories and more, yet all from a single mind. Splendid!

Good, sometimes intense.

The first couple stories weren't as polished as those of the author's novels I've read, but after that they're all refined in both the technical and artistic senses. Full of fun worlds and challenging themes. Some good jokes, and good characters to leaven the challenging stuff.

Patrick Rothfuss wrote a very good intro, but I wish he'd finish his own novel series already.

I expected more

I have read before some stories from M R Kowal I liked very much. So this collection is not the 'best' of M R Kowal. Having said that there were half a dozen stories that I was attracted to: 'The Bound Man', 'Waiting for Rain', 'First Flight', 'The Consciousness Problem', 'For Solo Cello, op, 12', 'American Changeling' and 'The Lady Astronaut of Mars', the later a Novelette award story that was 'followed' by a series of novels that I had read earlier and enjoyed very much.

Notation add, just wonderful. Great fantasy and great SF and among the best characters ever. Great voice acting, too.

A Fine Anthology Done by the Author

A great Anthology of stories by Mary Robinette Kowal also done by the Author. The stories vary from fantasy and science fiction. What make the stories shine is the characters and their motivations and feelings. The collection is nice selection of stories and personalities of the Author. Very well done performance by the author. It is enjoyable book

I really like these short stories

As always I love the narration. I feel like she writes the story and all the characters have the right voices. I love the stories. All were really good. Also, I like this had some story to add to the Lady Astronaut series. Thank you so much for the stories you write!

Perfection

An excellent collection of short stories from MRK. Though I freely admit I was drawn to it primarily for the Lady Astronaut short. What a finale! (I totally didn't get misty eyed. Nope. Not me.) Please let this be a beautiful segue to at least one more full length novel! The universe needs more of Elma York...and we'd love it here on Earth too!

What a writer

Really enjoyed each story. Amazing flexibility, she jumps through genres and styles and settings with such ease.
