Resumen del Editor

In With No One as Witness, her 13th novel, Elizabeth George has crafted an intricate and absorbing story sure to enthrall her listeners. Detective Inspector Thomas Lynley, along with his longtime partner, the fiery Barbara Havers, and newly promoted Detective Sergeant Winston Nkata, is back and on the hunt for a sinister killer.

When an adolescent boy's nude body is found mutilated and artfully arranged on the top of a tomb, it takes no large leap for the police to recognize this as the work of a serial killer. This is the fourth victim in three months, but the first to be white.

Hoping to avoid charges of institutionalized racism in its failure to pursue the earlier crimes to their conclusion, New Scotland Yard hands the case over to Lynley and his colleagues. The killer is a psychopath who does not intend to be stopped. Worse, a devastating tragedy within the police ranks causes them to fumble in their pursuit of him.

With a surprise ending that will shock listeners to the core, With No One as Witness is full of the mesmerizing action and psychological intrigue that are the hallmarks of Elizabeth George's work and continue to prove that she is "a master of the English mystery" (New York Times).

Reseñas de la Crítica

"This is a riveting installment in a superb series - far more than just plain good." (Booklist)

"Crime fans will find plenty of forensic minutiae and details of police bureaucracy and politics, but it's characterization at which George really excels.... This is an outstanding and explosive addition to a popular series." (Publishers Weekly)

Book Good, Narrator not appropriate

I love the Linley series but was disappointed with this narrator - too old to represent Linley. I alsp prefer reading without music...they're distracting.

Hate hate the music

I loved reading this whole series and am now listening to it. I was able to adjust to a new narrator but the music almost ruined my experience.

I hate that it was abridged

I don’t ever by abridged books except by mistake. I was thrilled to see Audible had the 3 missing Linley books available. That excitement caused me to buy all three without checking. My bad. I wish Audible would put a red “BEWARE” sign at the very top above the listing.

For an abridged book it wasn’t bad. It seemed like none of the crucial parts of the story were left out. I did miss the usual character building however.

The noise - I can’t call it music as it is so awful - at the beginning and ending of each chapter is horrible! Totally annoying and unnecessary.

Bring back the old Narrator

As a fan of Elizabeth George, I enjoyed this book. However, the change in the narration between the narrator in this book and different narrators in other books resulted in subtle differences. Some of the characters just didn't speak the same (inflection, emotion towards other characters). With the old narrator, I'd have given it 4 stars.

With No One as Witness

Elizabeth George succeeds in weaving together another well-crafted story that draws you into the lives of Inspector Lynley and Barbara Havers and the murders that they are investigating.

Her Best Yet

I have listened to this series in order over the last year. This is my favorite of all. The reader is fantastic and the story telling is superb.

ABRIDGED!

Should have known by its length (only 10+ hours) but didn’t realize until too late!
Agree w another reviewer that the reader’s voice did Lindley’s character no service, conveying little of the warmth or depth of character listeners have grown accustomed to.

Horrid music

Almost gave up on this book because of the horrid, overly dramatic, jolting music that kicked in at the ending and beginning of each chapter. If I get another book with that, I'll return it.

This is a famous novel

Long before TV series writers began writing shocking episodes involving surprisingly terrible things for main characters to undergo, we have this book. It’s a shocker. BUT BUYER BEWARE—new narrator—not as good—and terrible ridiculous musical interludes. Just awful. Someone should have lost a job.
