Great YA Fiction / Fantasy

Well-written Christian fantasy for women is hard to find, but Busse delivers book after book. My only regret is that the third book in this series isn’t published yet!

The imagery is Christian but not didactic. God is presented as The Word which manifests as a wind which can be as silent as a whisper or as terrible as a stormy whirlwind. There are other fantasy elements such as angel-like humans who have power to heal or kill. Mystical bonds form between humans and animals as well as between the two lead characters. Busse’s vivid descriptions of the places in which characters live, travel, and fight make readers / listeners feel they are living in the world with her.

I liked the reader, but I thought she was too melodramatic at times. I both listened to and read the book. I think I prefer listening because it made me slow down and pay more attention to descriptions, but reading was great experience as well.

The book was not graphic but physical violence, sparring, torture, and battles were minimally described. This book could definitely be more gritty should Busse decide to go that route. However, she keeps the nastiness to a minimum. I almost wish she was more detailed in some instances, at least telling more of the feelings of the people as they experience battle, excruciating pain, romantic love, or loneliness. I get why Busse made the decisions she did. Readers / listeners will get the point from what was written if they stop to think. Also, books can get overly bogged down in “the feels.” I appreciate that the story was told mostly through action and character to character dialogue rather than mostly internal thoughts.

I like the series. It is great for tweens and teen and above. The reader was good. I highly recommend this snd other Busse books like the Raven trilogy and her duologies.

Another Exceptional Novel

I couldn’t wait for the second book to come out and it did not disappoint! Just as dynamic inspiring informative, action pact as the first book While still leaving more to come. Thoroughly enjoyed it and so happy it came out day before my birthday so I could enjoy the day with the new novel.

Perfect second book in this series! I didn’t want it to end. It had a strong follow up and has built anticipation for the next book.

I loved all the relationships that Bridged and Caden get into.

I was enthralled with the development of Bridgid's life. It wasn't all at once. Can' t wait for the next book

I love this Series more then any of her other books. They’re is a lot to take in. I wish they had covered more country and had a little more detail but otherwise a great book can’t wait for book three.
