Another strong entry in this classic series

I have been working my way through the 87th Precinct series. This really is a must-read series for any fan of police procedurals. It is genesis of classics like Hill Street Blues and the 1000 imitators that follow. Mixes who-done-it with character development of the team of detectives with a dash of social commentary.

Love the fact that this series was redone with a single narrator. The classic voice of Dick Hill brings the perfect mix of humor and seriousness to each book. Well done.

Very very interesting this one....

Interesting in that here it is 2020 and the main story and characters are about an unfaithful husband being murdered and how it has impacted his family, nothing we haven't seen or heard before but very well told. Then, one of my favorite detectives, Steve Carella, endures a most heinous loss himself and there's family drama there as well. But the back story near the end is about the racial inequalities and injustices we are faced with today and this book was written in 1991. Its ironic that our lives have intertwined 20 plus years later dealing with the same social issues. In some ways we've definitely moved forward due to technology but no progression in respecting the racial or cultural differences and choices of the individuals that weren't presented with any choices or opportunities to help improve their lives. The impact of this is 20 years later is unforgiving to me but that's my opinion about this entire series. I like these books when it comes to what it takes to catch the bad guys and how the detectives go about it,, but not the social injustices you hear from time to time. I think Carella is smart, empathetic and caring and a damn good detective and character.

These books are well written but sad at times how certain characters are depicted but true. This book really got me thinking about what we're dealing with now. I wonder how the deceased author would write such stories in this decade. I started with book one and now at this one.. I have only reviewed a few from the series but getting ready to start the next book in the series soon. I take breaks in between the series and listen to other books so it's taken me a while to get as far as I have. I've a few others in my library that need my attention but if I never write another review on this series, know I've personally enjoyed it and the progressing of the times and characters and it will be finished in its entirety. Just might take a minute or two.

For

A while I thought Dick Hill really added to the enjoyment of these stories. But in this episode he comes across Tom as shrill and whining at times

If you like porn

I had a hard time.finishing be cause of the porn,McCain has great plots and wonderful characters. At times I have to skip over ,what I call porn and traffic violence. This one is lone of his worst. He has me trapped because I love the characters and witty dialog.
