Resumen del Editor

Where's the Next Shelter? is the true story of three travelers on the Appalachian Trail, a 2,000-mile hike that stretches from Georgia to Maine, told from the perspective of Gary Sizer, a seasoned backpacker and former marine who quickly finds himself humbled by the endeavor. He teams up with Megan, a sassy college grad whose indomitable spirit eclipses her lack of experience; and Lemmy, a cartoonist from overseas whose off-kilter commentary on the wonders and frustrations of the trail keeps everyone laughing.

Sprawling through the woods and towns of the Appalachian Mountains, the trail carries the trio through real and fanciful ups and downs ranging from hilarious to perilous. Much more than an orderly account of mountaintops and meals, this book is an adventure about friends figuring things out as they go. It's about screwups and solutions, awe and inspiration.

If you long for the horizon or to sleep under the stars, then come along for the hike of a lifetime. All you have to do is take the first step.

Great Book

This audio book is vey well done and quite entertaining to listen to. Being a through hiker myself it is great to see an AT book written that represents a real through hike.

Thanks Green Giant!

This is a great audio-read and I highly recommend for those who have or have thought about going on an expedition. The first week of listening was very enjoyable and often times I felt that I was actually on the AT with Green Giant. However, I will say that the remaining 4 to 5 chapters were a bit long-winded and I eventually lost interest. Perhaps it's just me and I may return back to the remaining chapters later but; overall, Where's The Next Shelter? is definitely worth the download and listen.

inspiring!

I listened to this audiobook on the way to and from work everyday for the past 2 weeks. It was amazing and genuinely lifted me out of my current life with all of the daily stress and anxiety that I normally experience and accept as inevitable. I looked forward to hearing Gary's voice every morning and was eager to find out what interesting characters we would run into that day on the green tunnel. by the end it felt like a tearful goodbye with a beloved family member to hear him say he had reached the end of the trail. I'm so inspired. I've begun taking day trips and may one day hike the Appalachian Trail myself. thank you so much Green Giant!!

Great. Book!!!

I was hesitant to get this book because after listening to A Walk in the Woods, I didn't know how any book could be as good... But this one was!! I finished it in two days! I am very particular with books, they hafta be damn good to keep my attention, and this book certainly did that! The narration was fantastic, as was the storyline.. I highly recommend this book!!

Just like the hike I didn’t want it to end

Great book, loved every minute. I walked the Camino in Spain and that was tough enough . This book inspired me to start walking again.
Perfect book and I’m sure I’ll listen to it again and again. Trail name “Turtle “
It’s pretty obvious why and why it took me so long to complete the Camino.
Buen Camino. This trail and the Camino is exactly the same but totally different.

couldn't stop listening

what an honest and often humorous look at a hard fought hike on the AT. Great group of characters and I feel like I know every one of them now

Fascinating account, well narrated by the author

I had low expectations of this book by an author unknown to me (thinking it would in no way compare to Bill Bryson's "A Walk in the Woods" which I had loved so much.) But boy was I wrong. I loved every chapter of this book, and the author's excellent narration. I was sorry when it ended, and immediately bought Gary Sizer's other book, which is just as great or better. Get this and the next one! They're both great listens.

Great read,

I live within 10 miles of Springer Mountain, and love hiking the AT, this book gives so much insight to the joys and sorrows the Trail can offer.
Thank you for sharing your experiences, I one day I hope to see all the places you have told about..

Ruined by narrator

A delightful cast of characters, described very well by the author, and infused with considerable humor, ruined by a narrator who did not seem to know how to use proper inflection and pauses in the narration. It’s a shame; this is a very good book, and a worthy addition to the volumes written about the Appalachian trail.
