Kilteegan Bridge, Ireland. 1975
Despite the best efforts to the older generation to maintain standards, short skirts, long hair and loud music are all the rage in Kilteegan Bridge. Emmet Kogan has set his sights on an education at the prestigious Stanford University in California, while his cousin Nellie also longs to get away, but for very different reasons. If she’s to escape too, it will mean wrapping herself in a web of lies, but it’s a price she’s willing to pay.
Lena and Eli are terrified they will lose their boy to the bright lights of America forever, while Emily and Blackie make a decision to keep a dangerous secret, despite knowing the damage such duplicity can do.
On the exciting streets of 1970s San Francisco, two young Irish people have to learn to navigate this new world of wonderful opportunities and dangerous vices, and learn that no matter how open and accepting a society is, there are always rules. Rules that if broken, carry a heavy penalty.

So much happens in “When Irish Eyes Are Lying,” including the sudden and unexpected death of one of the most beloved characters in the series. I felt such sadness when it happened… My jaw just dropped as I never would have guessed it was coming.
Lena and Eli are so sad when their oldest son, Emmett, decides to move in with his biological father Malachi in Palo Alto, CA so he can attend the prestigious Stanford University.
After the long and painful birth of her son and giving her baby to her parents, Nellie decides to join her cousin Emmett in Palo Alto. Beautiful San Francisco is only a short train ride away. Nellie decides one day to go on her own to explore the City.
While waiting for the train she makes new “friends.” Her new friends are into smoking weed, and a few of them are into more serious drugs. Nellie (now calling herself Danielle) decides after a while that she’s sick of hanging out with a bunch of losers who say they are going to change, but never do. Fortunately for Nellie, the drugs never appealed to her.
She leaves the nasty apartment they have all been hanging out in, but within minutes Nellie realizes that not only has she left her coat behind, but what little money she had was on her coat pocket. She doesn’t even have a dime to call Emmett to have him come and get her.
A nice girl comes along and convinces Nellie she will help her. Before long, Nellie is selling flowers on different street corners every day and has fallen in with a religious cult.
It’s weeks before Emmett and Malachi track down Nellie and figure out what happened to her. Emmett and Malachi (and Emmett’s girlfriend Wei), work out a play to break Nellie out of the cult compound.
Meanwhile, Nellie’s mom and dad, Emily and Blackie have gotten the news from Emmett that Nellie is with a cult and they are frantic. They leave “their” baby Aiden with Lena and Eli and decide to travel to California to help get Nellie.
While they are away, their store burns to the ground and they are on the verge of bankruptcy. They are at the point selling their other two stores when Malachi steps in and confronts their insurance adjustor.
Now that Nellie is home, she is making BIG changes in her life. She is pursuing a career in nursing thru the convent and she has found a great friend in Sister Martine, who reminds Nellie she is a good person and has every reason to believe she is worthy of living a life filled with love and honor.
Meanwhile, there is someone in Kilteegan Bridge in deep, deep mourning over the person they have loved most of their lives. Indeed, most of the town is in deep mourning. It will take a long time for these people to get over such an extremely painful loss.
All of this sadness and loss is because of lies and deceit — it turns out the price of breaking the rules is much too high.
A TWIST I NEVER SAW COMING!

I have but one regret ... that book 5 is NOT an audiobook. I pray it's in the works.
