Resumen del Editor

Seventeen weddings. Six months. Only the strong survive.

Joy Silverman and her boyfriend, Gabriel Winslow, seem perfect for each other. Living together in New York City, they have everything they want and everything in common; most importantly, neither one wants to get married. Ever.

But when Joy finds herself obligated to attend 17 weddings in six months (including those of her father, mother, younger brother, and five of her closest girlfriends), the couple is forced to take a new look at why they're so opposed to marriage when the rest of the world can't wait to walk down the aisle. As the season heats up and the pressure mounts, Joy must confront what it means, and what it costs, to be true to one's self.

A witty, wicked comedy of manners in the satirical tradition of Jane Austen and Evelyn Waugh, Wedding Season is an intelligent, laugh-out-loud funny examination of friendship, faith, integrity, and the ideas and institutions that bind us together, shape our lives, and define who we are.

"If Jane Austen and Candace Bushnell were to meet for a long drink in a downtown bar, the delightful result might be a contemporary comedy of manners with a decidedly old-fashioned feel. Darcy Cosper has given us just that: a sweet and sharply funny concoction that will have bridesmaids everywhere nodding their heads in recognition." (Dani Shapiro, author of Family History)

"Wonderful....Wedding Season is social comedy on a grand scale. A hilarious and urbane primer on getting hitched-or not-in the 21st century." (Gary Shteyngart, author of The Russian Debutante's Handbook)

Reseñas de la Crítica

"A charming and satirical look at love, marriage, and what happens to people with less-than-conventional convictions when society challenges them at every turn." (Booklist)

Not worth it

I'm not even half-way through this book. So far it's really boring and I'm not sure what the point is. The main character is anti-marriage and has to attend 17 weddings in a period of six months. Surely there must be something amusing in this...so far I haven't found it. The writing is wordy and tedious, with everything but the weddings themselves being described in horrible, mind-dulling detail.
This is the first time I will not finish a book I've bought from Audible.

Pointless

This book could have done with a more upbeat narrator to match the characters and the story. I started out wading through the first half and enjoying the second half. Unfortunately, when I got the the end I discovered that there was no discernable point to the story.

Couldn't make it to the end

Although some of the prose was a bit too precious and pretentious (of the aren't we darling and clever Manhattanite variety...), it wasn't the writing that got to me. I hate to say this but it might have, it was so predictable but Cosper does have the occasional excellent redemptive turn of phrase. However, as a book about attending many weddings is likely to - the word "photographer" is repeated often. The narrator can not say it properly, pronouncing it "fertagrapher." That extra R I know should be forgivable, but repeated over and over it eventually drive me to near madness and I jumped ship three and a half hours into the book.

Terrible!

I bought this book for some brain candy - a quick, fun listen. But I never was able to identify with the main character, and after getting to the end - hoping that there would be some resolution, all I can think is that the main character needs therapy and I am annoyed. There are much better choices out there - find them!

Watch Out

I found this book to be offensive and anti-marriage. It never got my full attention as I tuned out after the references to the lesbian friend that was getting married. Not my cup of tea. I did not get past the first hour...
