Acerca de esta escucha

A Canticle for Leibowitz meets The Hunt for Red October in We Shall Sing a Song into the Deep, a lyrical and pause-resisting coming-of-age exploration of duty, belief, and the post-apocalypse from breakout newcomer Andrew Kelly Stewart.

Remy is a Chorister, rescued from the surface world and raised to sing in a choir of young boys. Remy is part of a strange crew who control the Leviathan, an aging nuclear submarine, that bears a sacred mission: to trigger the Second Coming when the time is right.

But Remy has a secret, too - she's the submarine's only girl. Gifted with the missile's launch key by the Leviathan's dying chaplain, she swears to keep it safe. Safety, however, is not the priority of the new chaplain, who has his own ideas about the mission. When a surface-dweller is captured during a raid, Remy's faith becomes completely overturned. Now, her last judgement may transform the fate of everything.

A story that isn’t very original with humanistic concern it’s major philosophy. Reminiscent of other sci-fi, apocalyptic works. A shallow understanding to religion but not entirely badly written. Not sure what the major theme were if any, sort of a vague attempt at profundity but lacking any real target.

An ok story

Wow, this was an amazing story. It was well told and the author turns some wonderful phrases. Great twists that were unexpected. Not as long as I would have hoped, but I think its perfect as it is. Best novel I have read in awhile.

an original and brilliant post apocalyptic story

Story was ok, narrator talks in a few syllables at a time like a 50s movie robot, very distracting.

Narrator speaks like a robot

The story is captivating and the characters are interesting and well developed, but what makes this book stand out is the writing and the beautiful, sometimes surprising, use of language. It is a wonderful read. I was sad to finish it. Well done Mr. Stewart.

Captivating language

I enjoyed this book and the performance. The critiques of the reader in some other reviews gave me pause, but I decided to give it a go, and am glad I did - in my view the critiques are completely unfounded. The only thing that could have really improved it would be a performance of the singing described - maybe in a later version…

Enjoyable world building in a claustrophobic space

There's nothing particularly innovative here, and the setting mostly feels underused. The choice of VA was a bad one. She reads the entire novel in a breathy, wondering tone more suited for a young childrens' book being read at a preschool.

Deritive and poor choice of voice actor

Story was ok, nothing out of the ordinary but short enough for a quick, mildly entertaining time. However, the narrator was too slow, killing any chance of success in few action chapters of the book.

Narrator toooooo slow
