Resumen del Editor

Unlike most artists, Van Gogh developed very slowly, beginning with work as an art dealer that exposed him to many great works. He undertook this work for several years, after which he spent time as a missionary for the Dutch Reformed Church. After that, he drifted for several years before re-turning home to his parents’ house, where he took up painting, largely self-taught with books on anatomy and painting. His great works all date from the later years of his life.

Inside you’ll hear about:

  • Early life
  • The first four years of creativity
  • Stylistic developments and influences
  • Paris
  • Arles
  • Van Gogh and Gauguin
  • Hospitalization
  • Life in an asylum
  • Van Gogh’s death
  • And much more!

Totally neglected in his life, he suffered from psychosis for much of his life, and was treated for depression, unsuccessfully. He died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound on July 29th, 1890. Only after his death, thanks to the efforts of his brother, Theo, he achieved recognition as a great artist.

Frida Kahlo was ahead of her time. She was bisexual and would have fit in perfectly in the time we live in now. Her disabilities would be acceptable in our society of today and her husband, Diego would probably be run out of town by the Real Housewives of “Cheaters.” Frida came with a lot of baggage in her life starting when she was only six years old and even more baggage piled on when she was in high school. Her suffering was more than anyone can imagine but she kept her head held high and forged her way forward.

Inside you’ll hear about:

  • Frida’s birth and family
  • Frida and Diego begin their life together
  • Diego’s first fight with penile cancer
  • Frida’s lovers
  • Frida was rotten to the core
  • A lifetime of Frida’s creations
  • A medical doctor’s perspective on Frida

And much more! If Frida had not had a unibrow, waxed her upper lip, and shaved under her arms, she may have appeared more feminine than she did, and it may have given her more self-confidence. She never gave herself a chance because she felt it was her job to be the boy in the family.

good one

his book is quite lovely, even the pages are sturdy, with a nice semi gloss. The beginning of the book has her diary, and afterwards has translations for those of us who don't speak/read spanish. The book got here quickly and I was very pleased with the transaction. Overall, I am happy to have finally bought it

It was enlightening to read Frida's diary.

It was enlightening to read Frida's diary. In addition to being a brilliant painter, her writing is poetic. Free form wanderings, eulogies for departed friends, political views, intimate musings of her life are all in this most revealing diary. Doodles are in pen, crayons, ink blots are worked into her sketches. This poor woman endured over 35 surgeries all stemming from the excruciating injuries suffered in the tragic bus accident. Her frustration, anger and immense sadness is palpable in her entries.

good one

This book -- I love this book. The translation is in the back and it's very easy to flip back and forth between her journal and the notes -- I just used some sticky notes to mark my places. And it's really lovely to read about her in her own words. If you're an artist or love art or politics or people who live passionately, you'd probably like this.

I absolutely love the quality of this book.

I absolutely love the quality of this book. I have showed all my friend's this diary, and they also agree. If you're a FRIDA-fanatic like me, I do not at all regret buying this. I'll admit I felt like I was reading a diary of someone who was still alive, I felt a little bad. But reading through each passage, seeing each drawing, it was amazing. And it's a side of Frida that many people have no idea about.

Great and useful techniques!

I loved this book! I can't seem to put it down I do have to say that I would recommend it for billingual readers you will get a better understanding of the book. It is translated in english towards the back but, spanish readers will benifit the most out of the book because you will be able to understand Frida's humor about Diego. The first part of the diary is all in spanish and was written by Frida. The 2nd half is the english translation that will show a small replica of her drawings with the english translation. Some words are better left in spanish because the translation in english will not do them justice. Frida expresses her feelings so well that you can't help but feel her burning passion for diego and her lonliness. Frida was an intersting individual and her art is magnificent. She was an artist and a poet. Frida's diary is very morbid to say the least but, I love it. She expressed exactly what she felt at that exact moment. Her explanation to the way she sees each color is fantastic. I have gone through her paintings to see how many times she used the color Yellow. Buy the book to find out what this color means. Her physical pain is obvious and her paintings speak out for them selves. There is no doubt she was madly in love with diego above all. I learned much more about her through this diary. Please buy the Frida movie starring Selma Hayek things will make more sense to you. The author of this book uses every day language to translate her art. It is a must have book, I will definetly read it over and over. The book is absolutely a must have for Frida addicts like myself. I sometimes get lost while I'm reading it because I feel as if I can see and feel what she is describing. I absolutely love Frida and her artwork. Don't hesitate to buy this book it is worth every dollar you spend.

The introduction was a beautiful glimpse into the beginning of a journey that "The Diary of Frida Kahlo" took me on. One of logic, passion, bits of pain, humor, love and the confusion of which art tries to help us cope with issues we find unbearable to ever comprehend. A daily read for me whether it be if I can only fit in a few minutes of my favorite parts of have the leisure of enjoying the whole body of the book. Love isn't a strong enough word for how much I enjoy it but will have to do, I love it a great deal. Recommend it to anyone looking to mix the beauty of images with the gorgeous mind of a poet as I find most of the journal entries of her's were

Perfect, i highly recoomend this book.

Perfect, i highly recoomend this book. I listenit this book years ago amd bought it here for a great price. If you love frida, you will love her diary. Studying her photos in her journal gave me alot of information and perspectivw on her spiritual amd life experiences. I found frida at the lowest point of my life, bedbound and very sick. She gave me hope while identifying her pain thru her paintings. An absolure must. I finally did my frida art piece based on her paintings and journal.
