The battle of Iwo Jima, which took place from February 19 to March 26, 1945, during World War II, was a crucial confrontation between the United States and the Empire of Japan. Located in the Pacific Ocean, Iwo Jima held strategic significance for both sides due to its airfields, which could be used to launch attacks on enemy targets.
The battle began with a massive amphibious assault by the U.S. Marines, aiming to capture the island and its vital airfields. However, the Japanese forces, heavily fortified and prepared for a fierce defense, fiercely resisted the American advance. The fighting was intense and brutal, characterized by a network of underground tunnels, well-entrenched positions, and heavy artillery.
After weeks of fierce combat, the U.S. forces eventually secured victory, but at a tremendous cost. The battle resulted in significant casualties on both sides, with the Marines enduring high losses. The iconic raising of the American flag on Mount Suribachi became an enduring symbol of American heroism and determination.
The battle of Iwo Jima played a crucial role in the Pacific campaign, providing the Allies with an important base for subsequent operations and contributing to the eventual end of the war.

This dislocation results from a strategic indirect approach.
